Form the title of your thread, I thought this was going to be about the Texas Longhorns. I was all ready to respond that I am very nervous about their inexperienced offensive line and secondary but beating TCU last week in come from behind fashion was very encouraging. Fortunately we have a cupcake schedule, with the lone exception being the OU game. For the first time in several years, I believe we will be a considerable underdog. In regards to your actual question. They are my favorite band of all time, just ahead of REM. Feel free to join the fun at jayfarrar.net to get a perspectiv
  2. If I recall correctly, do the doors open at 6:30 or 7:30?
  3. Box Full Of Letters!!!! Thats incredible. They havent played that as a full band in quite some time. Hopefully tonite is as good. I have never seen Wilco in Dallas, so Iam a little nervous that it might have too much of an LA vibe going on. But hopefully not. Austin is really going to miss out on Wilco not playing a full set show this year, but something tells me they will still play a good amount of oldies at the festival on sunday.
  4. Getting back to pre-internet days (at least for me since I thought chat rooms were strictly for porn up until two years ago) I will never forget my surprise when I was glancing thru the Austin Chronicle in the summer of '99 and came across the UPCOMING MUSIC listings for Antones in Austin. It listed a band going by the name of "Summerteeth" for a show on 8/15. Could it be Wilco, we thought. Many of my friends were skeptical and thought that it was probably just a Wilco cover band or a Wilco hoot night (which is not uncommon here in Austin.) But I knew better. Having had REM tickets in han
  5. The reason we are no longer surprised is because of the internet. We furiously click, click, click on "after the show" hoping to be the first ones to view last nights setlist. Its like a freaking drug. We are addicted. We cant stop ourselves. I am to blame and you are to blame. I remember the good old days before the internet when I use to go to Wilco shows and make bets with my friends on which song Wilco would open with. If they even played an Uncle Tupelo song during the set we would nearly cream our shorts. Those days are long gone. At least for you and me. I envy my Wilco frien
  6. If you guys are planning on attending (or at least trying to attend) the ACL taping, I think the Hole In The Wall is the perfect place to meet up. It's literally less than 100 yards from where the taping will be. When I went to school at UT this is where we hung out EVERY DAY because of its proximity to the communications building (where the taping takes place.) The beer is cheap, the booze is strong, and the jukebox rocks. Guaranteed to have either Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt or Wilco in regular rotation. It also has hosted it's fair share of talent on stage including the likes of Lucinda Wil
  7. I will never forget Jeff opening with this song at his solo show in Austin in January. Absolute perfection.
  8. This is without question my favorite song off the new record. The lyrics hit especially close to home right now. I would kill for them to play this in Dallas, but I know they wont.
  9. Nothing a little xanax wont fix. Sweet, sweet xanax.
  10. Iam pretty sure about the curfew. Its been in affect for at least two or three years. Its been at least that long since I saw a show at Stubbs (outside not inside) go past 11. Both Wilco and Son Volt have played weekend shows in the last two years and both ended right at or before 11. In regards to the Dylan show. Another thing that will suck about this show is that all tickets are having to be picked up at Will Call. Talk about a clusterfu#@.
  11. Stubbs has the early bed time not Dylan. Unfortunately there is a sound ordinance in effect so no music can play after 11 pm, thus the early starting times. It also prevents against bands doing several impromtu encores which used to be the norm there.
  12. http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/sha...l_out_of_2.html Now I am even more excited that I decided not to buy a wristband this year. Will make friday night with Wilco that much sweeter.
  13. From the research I have done online, it appears that this place used to be Gilleys? Iam just wondering where to tell the cab driver to take me (Iam staying at the Adams Mark) as I have been having bad luck with cab drivers not knowing where their going recently, especially when it comes to new clubs. Also I havent been able to find out what time the doors open?
  14. Just got my ticket for Friday night. How big is the Palladium, sound, good places to drink nearby, etc...?
  15. If I recall correctly they dont have opening acts. They will edit in another bands performance into the actual telecast. For example Bright Eyes taped their episode on an entirely different day than Wilco. But the TV audience likely didnt know that when watching the Wilco/Bright Eyes episode from a few years back. I use to know Terry Lickona (the producer of ACL) as he came into my restaurant where I worked during college and would on occasion give me free tickets. Those were the good old days.
  16. I know I will be hurting my chances of getting a shot at a ticket for the taping, by being the first person to disclose this info, but maybe Karma will be on my side. So here you go. http://austinist.com/2007/09/07/so_you_wanna_se.php I have been to a few ACL tapings in the past and EVERY TIME the ticket drop is at the KLRU studio on the UT campus (communications building, where I went to school). Has anyone ever known them to give the tickets out elsewhere? If not, you bacially can bank on getting a ticket if your willing to get their early enough on Friday.
  17. No Wilco. Dylan instead. Tickets go on sale Wed.
  18. Rumors are still strong that either Wilco, My Morning Jacket or Bob Dylan will be the saturday night performer at Stubbs. Most sources on the ACL message board are hinting that it will likely be Dylan. Appears Charles Attal is waiting for the single day tickets to sell out before announcing the surprise act. However, last year the festival never sold out single day tickets, so in theory he's just waiting as long as possible before pushing the button. Their confident (and rightly so) that the show will still sell out even if announced at the last minute. On a sidenote. Speculation contin
  19. I Thought I Held You I told them that if they play this song, I will attend the final day of ACL stark naked.
  20. Forgot to put my worst venue. The House of Blues in Las Vegas in 2002. The band nearly left midway thru due to all the talking going on. For me this was the beginning of the end. All Wilco shows thereafter have never been the same (thanks to the audience, not the band.)
  21. Even better than the Mercury show was the one they played at Antones in '99. My greatest concert experience of all time, hands down.
  22. http://austinist.com/acl This is a pretty good place to get the latest updates on the festival and all things related to music in Austin. In years past, one of the music columnists for The Austin American Statesman (Michael Corcoran) would have a weekly music gossip column and he was great at announcing surprise shows before anyone else. He still writes a blog for the paper, so that may be a good place to check as well. It is extremely unusual for Stubbs not to have a listed performer for a Sat night in any month, let alone during ACL. That is why I am still somewhat optimistic. If I
  23. http://austinist.com/2007/07/25/acl_fest_update_1.php "Rumor has it that Wilco will eventually fill the Stubb's spot, while we're unsure if Antone's will host additional shows. The schedule as we know it is listed below:" This is a month old and I just noted it today. I now feel even more optimistic that Wilco will be playing Sat night. As I said earlier most of the ACL tapings occur in the afternoon (sometimes morning as well) giving the band ample time to make it over to Stubbs for an approx 9pm show. BTW, for those planning on coming down to the ACL fest and do not have tickets.
  24. Still a blank slate for that saturday. This is becoming quite odd. I have to say that from the recent setlists I am quite tempted to head up I-35 to the Big D for the friday night show. I would be missing out on an entire day of ACL festivities but it might be worth it. This would be the first time in years that Wilco had not played a full show in Austin, while in town.
