  1. Patrick Kane arrested for assault and robbery

Strange story developing this morning as Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane(notes) and his cousin were arrested in Buffalo for robbing and assulting a cab driver over a fare dispute.

Aaron Besecker of the Buffalo News picks up the details:

"Kane, 20, and James M. Kane, 21, were arrested about 5 a.m. on Eastwood Place, according to Buffalo police reports.

The pair allegedly punched the cab driver and grabbed money they had handed him after he told them he didn't have twenty cents in coins to give them their change, the report said.

Their fare was $13.80 and they handed the driver $15, according to a report.

The cab driver told police he was punched in the face and head, grabbed by the throat and had his glasses broken during the incident."

Kane and his cousin have been charged with second-degree robbery, fourth-degree criminal mischief and theft of services.

A native of Buffalo, Kane had just attended a press conference on Thursday with Mayor Byron W. Brown announcing funding for a local ice rink.

WIVB in Buffalo reports that an attorney for the Kanes entered a not guilty plea in City court.

  2. So whats your favorite record? Mine by far (well right now at least) is "Easy Beat."

Is it just me, or is Toby Leaman a freakin sic bass player? His tone/style is right out of the 70's... I especially love his bass line on "Today".

I also don't know how he can sing lead and play those bass lines at the same time. Can't wait to see him do it live.

Toby's an amazing bass player, one of my current favorites.

  3. I just came from a Billy Bragg clinic at Berklee, and the man is a bit full of himself.

    Highlights of the clinic:

    1) Way Over Yonder In the Minor Key

    2) An audience member professing her love for Remember The Mountain Bed and asking Billy to play it...only for him to say "Well, Jeff Tweedy wrote that one and he never showed me how to play it..."

  4. In no particular order, seriously.

    Long Haired Lady (Paul)

    Instant Karma (John)

    Wah-wah (George)

Back Seat of my Car (Paul)

    Too Many People (Paul)

    Dear Boy (Paul)

    What is life (George)

    Mrs. Vandebilt (Paul)

    Mother (John)

    Maybe I'm Amazed (Paul)

I'm a huge sucker for Paul's post-Beatle work, highs and lows.

John's is so-so with me, some are great, some are just pretentious and bullshitty (I know, I know...most of Paul's later work is bullshitty, but I have a certain affection for it)

And even though I really like All Things Must Pass and Living In The Material World, I haven't listened to much else from Harrison.

And for Ringo, it all starts and ends with "Octopus' Garden"

  5. There are rumors that The Patriots are looking into potentially signing Vick as a backup to Brady and expand on that Wildcat offense nonsense.

    This...would be a mistake.

I doubt it will happen. Bob Kraft knows all to well the unfavorable opinion a lot of folks have about the Pats already, adding Vick into the equation will give the Pats the undisputed title of "most hated".

  6. Are you talking about the one on the corner of.... I think it was Newbury and Massachusetts Avenue? If so, man that's a pretty small building to have a Best Buy in.

That's the one, three floors is sufficient for a Best Buy.

Ugh, official first concert: Backstreet Boys, 1996.

    2. First Concert you really wanted to go to and did?

The Eagles- 2003, Farewell I tour. 15 year old version of myself loved The Eagles.

    3. Favorite Band?

    The Beatles

    4. How Many Times have you seen them?

    ...1/4? I saw McCartney.

    5. Worst concert you attended?

Honestly, Radiohead last summer. Thom Yorke annoys me.

    6. Favorite concert you attended??

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band: Foxboro, MA 2008. Amazing.

    7. Band you have seen the most?

    Wilco

    8. How many times?

    Eight.

    9. Furthest you drove for a concert? How far?

From Boston to New Haven, CT for Wilco. February 2008.

    10. Furthest locale from home you have seen a concert?

Wow, not very far. Probably the same answer as number 9.

    11. How many concerts have you seen?

    Way too many to count.

    12. most you ever paid for a concert ticket?

$130, Paul McCartney at Fenway Park for this August.

Elvis Costello at the Melody Tent in Cape Cod.

    14. Band you want to see the most who you haven't seen?

I've been lucky to see most of my favorites. But I've never caught Dr. Dog.

    15. Ever been backstage, on a tourbus..which?

I gave Jeff Tweedy a squeezer backstage...I kid. No.

    16. Longest show by one artist you ever saw?

Either Bruce Springsteen or Bob Pollard, both topping three and a half hours easily.

    17. Shortest show by a headliner?

I was dragged to Michelle Branch by an ex-girlfriend when I was in high school...apparently she was sick, and left the stage about 30 minutes in. I was fine with that.

    18. Shows for which you had low expectations but were blown away?

Ted Leo (solo) at the Century Lounge. The Pharmacists showed up and played to about 50 people for two hours. Awesome night.

    19. Worst opening act

Wow. Um, Passion Pit (Ted Leo), Jay Reatard (Spoon), Conor Oberst (Wilco)...sorry about that last one folks, but I can't stand him.

  8. ...good thread...

Seriously though, why would join a message board with the main intention of adding fuel to an unwarranted fire. Nels and Jeff get along great, if anything I'd be more concerned with Nel's age (Fifty what now? :P ) being a factor than his so-called intrusive stage presence.
