and if they're able to trade for brian roberts...

oh man.
and i think the "they overpaid" talk is just premature. why don't you wait and see what he does before you say that? i know you'll seem cooler if you can say "i said they overpaid from the beginning" but if he has a stellar year, and more importantly, if the cubs go somewhere (win it all!!!) then you'll just look ridiculous.
Yeah, I know this feeling. It happens so many times, we've had such great looking lineups in the past that seemed so great but never amounted to much. Here we go again. Cant wait for another season. Go Cubs!! One of these years, we will do it.

So they probably have like 250 as of today's presale. Hard to imagine at 2 a person for 5 day passes, it could sell out that quick. Maybe its just too busy.
-
FYI, I confirmed with musictoday that the 5-day pass will be 1 ticket that would need to be passed between people if shared.
Good. This can reduce scalpers.

Well, 34 was his career high for homers in Japan (granted they only play 144 games, but they also have smaller ballparks), and he did that at the age of 27. I guess it's possible that he could hit that many 4 years from now, but I'd be pretty shocked.
Anywhere near 30 is fine for me as long as he can consistently hit over .300 and he plays solid defense. Just bat him in front of Derrick Lee, and watch his batting avg shoot up along with Lee's RBI.
Soriano, Fukudome, Lee, Ramirez, etc.... It all players clicking, thats could be DANGEROUS.

Ummm, I think she's in England now...
Ohh yeah I read it wrong. Wow, all the way from England. With the American dollar so weak, it should be a drop in the bucket for living expenses.
-
so who's buying the 5 day?
-
I hope you're still pumped when they're paying him $15 mil when he's 34 and injured.
Well I am hoping for 34 and hitting over .300 and 34 HRS. Why not assume good? We've spent money way worse (Sosa).

Hello all - just joined, first post!
I'm from Wisconsin orginally but moved to England in 1996. At the time, all my favourite bands were English so I was pretty stoked to be able to see them live.
Now it happens that my favourite band are based in Chicago, of all places! Anyway, I got sad reading about the residency as the UK tour was cancelled and I medically require Wilco gigs!
This may be the craziest idea ever, but I might just get the 5 ticket deal and fly out. I have no idea where I'd stay but at least there's plenty of time to try to find a place!
Anyway! For you Chicago people - is it possible to stay there on the cheap (ish)?
I'm not sure what part of Wisconsin you are in, but most likely you are just a drive away. I drive to Wisco all the time, where are you at?
It's not downtown so you should be able to find decent prices.

They overpaid.
$48 million for 4 years. We'll see if it was worth it but I am happy about the news. Excited about the new pickup. We could use a left handed bat that could hit for average and power.

the old one was pulled, as it was remastered into
I get an error while opening the torrent file. Maybe I am just way late on this one and have to go to JHamm on this. Anybody know of a current Torrent file? Thanks in advance. I never saw this.

Is it too early to start asking kind hearted Chicagoans on VC for possible places to stay? The tickets are one thing, but the prospect of spending several hundred dollars on a hotel is daunting. PM me and we can chat. Thanks in advance, Greg
I am actually only planning on going saturday but welcome people that need a place to sleep fri or sat night. Also I live in burbs but will be going down and can provide ride for saturday show thats assuming I get tickets for it before it sells out.

It's a January 1 state-wide ban on smoking in bars, restaurants, and stadiums. I think most other public places fell under the 1990 Clean Air Act (but don't quote me on that -- it's what I remember seeing on the doors of the park district I worked at.)
Wow so thats that. Smoking thing seems to be an old fad. I grew up thinking smoking was cool. I think the newer generation will not see it that way with all that is going on. I consider it a good thing even though it had to be forced onto us by unfair laws and propaganda.
-
Just a few more weeks! I don't know what some of the dives are going to do. I live right by the Sovereign -- the smell of stale smoke pours out of that place all the time. Can't imagine that place with clean air!
Smoke-free shows will be great, though. I saw The Blow at the Empty Bottle a couple months ago and she was begging the people up front to stop smoking so she could sing better. Yeesh.
So what is the actual law? Is chicago smoke-free on 2008 on every establishment? So every bar and restuarant is smoke-free? What about other places, any exceptions?

No, the only street mc who comes to mind is the evangelical one by the State St Old Navy. Is this east or west of the Argyle station?
East side of the station.
-
Haha, never seen Honkee, where's that? I know I should branch out but I always end up at Tank or Sun-Wah. In fact I've eaten at both multiple times in the last week. It's just so good...
Honkee is on the north side of the street closer to the train station. I walk past it all the time going to the train. I always make a comment when walking with my white friends.
Are you familiar with the street mc on the corner. The guy with the mic?
-
Tank Noodle!! Love love LOVE that place!
What about Honkee Resturant! never been in but like the name.
That Vientnam strip is the place for PHO lovers.
There is actually a great new sushi restuarant by the Borders. I forget the name, but great for people who like sushi. Then you also have the late night authentic mexican restuarants for you all burito lovers.

Between the winter residency, new tour dates, and Jeff's solo benefit show, I'm completely overwhelmed. Too much at once. Can't decide what to do. Probably won't do a damn thing at this point.
haha... you gotta do something.
I have tickets to go to the Benefit show cause I really like Jeff solo acoustic. And I plan to go to just the saturday show cause I work all other days and would be too much to try to make the show in time. That should be enough for me.

This is inaccurate. AAC is a open format, is higher quality than mp3s of the same bitrate, and works on many/most devices, including:
Creative Zen Portable
Microsoft Zune
Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP)
Sony Walkman
Nintendo Wii
PS3
Windows Mobile Devices
Palm Devices
Car Steroes will play CDs burned with aac files
Lots and lots of mobile phones
AAC will work just fine if you want something in a lossy format. It's better than mp3, but you get diminishing returns at higher bitrates, and so most people couldn't tell the difference between a 256 mp3 and a 256 aac
Ok so more devices support AAC now, but MP3 is still more widely used. When have you heard of a AAC player? Lot of standard cd players now have MP3 playblack. You gotta watch out for DRM with AAC.
I guess AAC is trying to compete with MP3, it will take alot to take over.

Kosuke Fukudome, I love that name. I hope he comes to the Cubs.

I have a sugguestion. Dont use iTunes or AAC. I have an iPod and use anapod for software to load music.
Here is the link to explain more - Anapod site
The thing with AAC is that is can only be used on iPods. You cant share it. iTunes doesnt want you to share at all or use the music anywhere else.
The thing to do is only use MP3s, it is universal and widely supported by every company. Just use high bitrates. I use 256, but you should at least go 192.
You have to pay for Anapod, but well worth the money. It lets you easily drag and drop onto iPod like a harddrive. Also, you can easily take MP3s from you iPod to your PC by just dragging and dropping. With iTunes, there is no way to get music from iPod to PC. iTunes is more of a hassle than anything.
If you wanna share music and have it be able used in other devices besides iPod, dont use AAC.

The legendary Green Mill is right around the corner from the Riv. That's definitely worth checking out for some jazz or a poetry slam if you're visiting Chicago.
Green Mill is nice. Very classic Jazz place. Broadway is starting to get some business to it if you havent been there in a year or so. Just need that Theater to open up and some more restuarants and bars. I can see that area coming. The crowd is very mixed according to what may be playing at Aragon or Riv.

Great dvd, I bought it.
I never really liked Joan Baez, I always felt her voice was way over the top, but always amazed at what came out of such a small little girl.

I'm actually suprised that the 5-day passes sold out that fast with still alot more demand for them. I didnt think they would draw that much so quick. I get the feeling scalpers were a part of this.
