  1. Since it's released on the first day of Solid Sound does anyone think a different version might be available there? Signed copies or anything? I want to preorder this but I can't help but wonder what if...

He would be silly not to have it at the show. Now signed copies is asking a bit much. Possible a color variant just for festival goers is more reasonable.

  2. Almost pulled the trigger on the puzzle box, but just couldn't justify $20 for a novelty I'll never use that will just take up more space in my cabinet.

If the box set had extra linear notes or heaven forbid more music, it would be a no brainer.

Went with the "piss yellow" vinyl on Amazon instead.

Is anyone kinda disappointed that this isn't a double vinyl? I mean these aren't new songs, he could easily have recorded and mastered more material. That version of Laminated Cat does sound nice though.

  3. Hootenanny is my least favorite Replacements album. Gary's got a boner  or tommy gets his tonsils out would have at least been funny. Would have loved something from Tim, Pleased to Meet Me, or even Let it Be.

They didn't play the best Kinks song either. Would have preferred they cover Strangers (like Golden Smog) or something off Arthur or Village Green.

I think my other complaint about the covers show, was they seemed to play them without much interpretation. I realize they played a long set of nothing but covers, so I'm sure it was difficult just learning all those songs, but I would have liked a little more than straight covers.

Finally, the second night show, while good, was missing a lot of YHF and AGIB material from my memory. Which in turn was disappointing. For a festival where Wilco was the main event, I kind of felt we missed a good bit of what made them special live.

Now, that being said, the festival itself was incredible, but in no way would I say it was my favorite Wilco performance, on either night.

  4. I liked the covers set, but to be honest I didn't like some of the covers they choose to play. They played some of my favorite artists, but a lot of their songs I don't care for. I mean out of all the Replacements songs....

  5. The black vinyl is 180g, and while that doesn't mean it will sound "better". The heavy vinyl is more durable and has less chance of warping over time. That being said it's not as "sexy" as the colored vinyl, so there is your trade off. Like the above poster said, it has more to do where the vinyl was pressed and QC.

Since the "vinyl craze" is still in full force, these "limited edition" copies can get farmed out to pressing plants that may not have the same quality control standards as the big pressing plants.

If this keeps up, you will see more records advertised based on where they were pressed. I've seen this on several releases already actually. I know that all the Neil Young recent reissues were pressed in some place in Germany that is known for quality pressings. The recent Beck re-issues advertise the pressing plant as well.

  6. I got a signed copy of the vinyl in the mail courtesy of Tony Marghertia Management. I was hoping it would be a 180g black version, but it was the orange vinyl. Thankfully my original pre-ordered copy is in good shape. I'll probably just frame this one, but would have switched out the records if I could.

  7. So I may have been ripped off by one of the local motels in Williamstown. I am extremely livid at the moment. For a small town,  some of the local business folks sure act like big city crooks. I'll keep the motel involved quiet for now, as I hopefully await a resolution in my favor.

Let's just say it's really turned me off to this festival...which is sad. ...and it hasn't even been announced yet!

  8. So... I finally got a chance to play my orange copy (first record in yet new house!) and it sounds great. Thank goodness. Very little to no surface noise. The second side seems a little wobbly but plays back just fine.
