  1. So that interview kinda proves that star

Wars / Schmilco are really Jeff solo albums that he had the rest of the guys work on seperately.

If there is one thing you can tell about whole love was that it felt like a collabrotive album.

I'm ok with it. But I think that comes out pretty apparent in the recordings

  2. I have a feeling that I'll be listening to this before that local store event. It seems like just a matter of time before this hits the net. Plus, I thought the pre orders shipped early? So I find the idea of a listening party a little silly. I guess it's cool though.

  3. So..for shits and giggles I decided to to snoop around hotels.com to look for available rooms in June 2017. To no surprise it appears the main hotel in N.Adams is completely booked on the weekend of June 23rd-June 26th. Since this is typically around the time when wilco holds Solid Sound , I find this peculiar. I also noticed a large number of hotels are also booked this weekend.

    When there is smoke....

I was able to find a motel that allowed me to reserve that weekend without putting money down...just in case.

  4. there sure is a lot of whining and crying in this thread.

    PSA:

Hi everyone, I would like to remind you that Wilco is putting out a new album in less than a month.

Jeff has described it as "fucked up country", and "more spacey and folky".

    Please be excited.

  5. Wilco age getting off a world tour, and about to release a new album. So maybe they need a little more time to sort it out. Lodging in the area has gotten completely out of control in my opinion, so I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to afford another one :(

  6. I think Whole Love felt like a "thank you" to their fans. It was the first album with the current line up that felt like a true collaborative record, where everyone seemed to have some influence on the recording. The album was also a ranther lengthy, yet precise record. I always took it as return to form record, where Jeff refocused on production techniques and songwriting.

It's a "return to form" record, the album felt like a huge hug to me.

  7. I had to drag a couple of friends to see Wilco, and they've been huge fans ever since.

I actually think Whole Love is the best starter album, as it really shows all of their talents as the current band. The older albums are starting to sound a little dated, especially when compared to the live material. I still love them though.

I always describe them as one of the best rock bands on the planet.

  8. I also want to add the obvious. Wilco tours ALOT. It's amazing they even have time to record new music. We should be thankful that we've been able to see them perform so often, and still get new music.

I'm thinking after Schmilco, it will be another 3-4 years before we hear something new again.

Oh, and I love the title and album art...

  9. a "5.7" for star wars is pretty harsh. Even Pitchfork gave it a higher rating!

I personally love or like just about everything they've put out. Wilco (TA) seemed like the creative low point to me. Some of the weakest songs/lyrics in the catalog. Even One Wing and BBN seem like lesser versions of Impossible Germany and Spiders.

Whole Love was incredible, and stands up with their best stuff. Probably one of their best produced records. You can tell they spent a long time shaping that record in the studio. It's a very layered production.

I find Star Wars to be short and sweet. It seems apparent to me that Tweedy had written a ton of new songs, and he just wanted to get them out there instead of tinker with them in the studio endlessly. It gives the album a more "live garage" sound. It's rough around the edges, but the songwriting is just as strong as ever.

and I guess that's why I still love them...Jeff's lyrics have only gotten more personal of late. Tweedy the album,  wasn't exactly an "exciting" record either, but it had a ton of heart.

I'm expecting the new album to feel like the "other side" of Star Wars. A little more focused, not as energetic, and more humble. I guess we shall see.

You can compare them to REM, but I don't think that's fair, because REM really turned into a completely different band in the end. Their sound evolved a lot from the 80s  - 90s - 00s. Wilco doesn't seem to be evolving in quite as drastically, but I wouldn't call any of their albums "similar"...except for Wilco (TA).

  10. 180g is more durable, and bodes much better for long term collection. I have colored vinyl that is 180g, so I'm not sure why they insist on releasing it on a lower weight.

I've heard "picture" vinyl have a drop in sound quality due to the photo coating. I don't see why the color would make a difference.

  11. I have two Wilco world emails...

anyway...I actually ordered the "White" vinyl from Bull Moose. I had a feeling they would do a "indie store only" release too.

I wonder which one is more rare (pressing wise). I prefer Orange to pink though.

I see the pink pressing is 7,000. that's quite a bit for a limited pressing.

Usually those type of pressings are under 5k

  12. I got an email from Kung fu, they said that the gum is going to be handed out based on order number, in which I made the cut. Thanks god, I don't know what I would do without this gum.

  13. My order was at 9:10 AM Eastern...and the gum isn't listed on my order details, even though I know it was on my checkout screen. Weird. I emailed Kung Fu. Hopefully I didn't miss out!!!

  14. strange, when I ordered the Gum was listed in my cart, but it's not shown on the invoice or order page? Does that mean I didn't get it? I literally ordered within 5 minutes of the site going live.
