  1. No cicadas, unfortunately -- he transitioned in from "Ethiobirds" pretty seamlessly, though, so I was satisfied! And yeah, he rallied, and relied a lot on Dosh for it. It was great to see them interplay a little more than usual, even though the cause wasn't great.
  2. Looking for one for Northampton -- email is agonistes [at] gmail. Thank you!
  3. Again pretty Noble Beast-heavy, but due to technical difficulties (an electrical fire, and the motor for his spinning amp literally exploding before the show) he seemed pretty thrown off, and they deviated from the set list with some older stuff in order to make up for it. I was ENTHRALLED that we got "Not A Robot, But A Ghost", and his solo openers were "Ethiobirds" and "The Water-Jet Cilice" -- two songs I never expected to hear live, ever, so it was totally worth the trip down from Denver. I hope his next shows go better for him, though -- he seemed really frustrated. I'm still looking fo
  4. So at work today I was finally listening to the show, and comparing it to the set list (I got Mike's, and it's up on my cube wall! ), and there weren't too many changes -- it looks like the plan was to play "Just a Kid" to close out the first encore, and they were also planning to segue from "Monday" directly into "Hoodoo Voodoo" during the second encore, rather than stick "Outtasite" between them. I'm still pretty pleased with the whole thing, though I admit I'd've loved to hear them play "Just a Kid" live.
  5. Wow, so I'm just now back in my apartment in Denver (after driving from Bend to Portland overnight to catch a flight out at seven this morning ), and I am still just blown away. I was down front, right in front of Pat's speaker, wearing the straw hat with the turkey feather tucked in the side. I loved "War On War", personally -- how often is it that we get to start off songs for the band? The other highlight for me was "Theologians". Everybody seemed so relaxed (especially the drunk guys), and I loved that Jeff took time to say hi to the kids who were down front. Also, I don't know wha
  6. They got a mention by the Associated Press... but not exactly in the best context ever. It's at the end of the article. Anybody else curious to know exactly what's on Obama's iPod? And the play count?
  7. I left after the Charlie Hunter Trio's first set because I have an early flight tomorrow morning, but I would have LOVED to have stayed and seen the whole thing. WOW. I was blown away by Nels and company -- came away with a real sense of awe and appreciation for what he can do, and I feel like I get a little bit better why he stays on the road so much. What I've heard of his has been what he played on his podcast, and also Draw Breath, and the music makes more sense to me now that I've actually seen people playing it -- now I understand that there are rules to free jazz, but not necessarily
  8. Saying 'they're shit' is a little harsh, yeah, but... not by much. After the fiasco that was Low opening for them last summer -- in Atlanta, they were AWFUL -- I'm surprised RGC was asked. At the Springs show I found it really, really difficult to take them at all seriously. While at least there were a few up-tempo numbers this time, does everything really have to be in a minor key? *Everything?*
  9. Oh, the drive itself was pretty -- just not when I was driving 100+ miles an hour the whole way, frustrated out of my skull, after working a full day. Kind of hard to appreciate it! I'm enjoying the drive back a lot more than I did last night, that's for sure!
  10. I drove six hours from Denver at the last minute and walked in right in the middle of Handshake Drugs -- the best thing about this band is they make every single moment of that awful drive WORTH IT in the first five minutes. It's been great to see Jeff so relaxed the last two nights -- I'll admit to having some misgivings about seeing them in this kind of venue (including the one in Colorado Springs two nights ago), but I should have known better. Incidentally, just because Jeff keeps bringing it up -- this is the Helen Hunt that the falls in the Springs are named after. A little bit m
  11. Agreed. Trying again on Friday morning. Looks like I'll get to be late for work again...
  12. Anybody know anything about the Pikes Peak Center in Colorado Springs? I'm trying to figure out whether I need to be late for work in order to score good seats with the presale or not, so if it's going to be general admission, that'd be good to know...
  13. John, Mike, and Nels signed my title page -- I didn't have anything else with me with enough room on it, and you have to read SOMETHING while you're in line for hours! It's currently in a frame and on my desk at work. Hollinger, I've just spent the last ten minutes laughing hysterically. :lol Worst case scenario, I have Photoshop and you're easily cropped out, without any loss to the picture. I just resized those without any further work to them. You didn't screw it up!
  14. Pictures that I've edited for consumption are here -- just keep clicking forward. I have more, but those are the best/the ones that best fit the concert writeup I did.
  15. I was also dead center, 3-4 people back -- and oh MY. (I was the tallish girl in the black 3/4 length shirt and jeans, brown hair.) I'm sitting in the Kansas City airport right now, waiting on my flight back to Denver, and I'm getting ready to start editing my picture collection. I have no idea why the security guys didn't notice me and throw me out, but I managed to stealth my way into the meet and greet session at the end. I got a chance to talk to Nels about John Doe -- apparently when Nels was growing up and was paying attention to the L.A. scene, John Doe and X were his be-all and end-a
  16. Currently sitting in a Panera in Kansas City -- flight from Denver was horrible! I'll try to make it by five, but after that flight I want to take my time and enjoy not being next to somebody who thinks my sixth rib makes a great armrest.
  17. Checked the weather -- looking like highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s, and NO SNOW. Fingers crossed that it stays that way. Has anybody been to the Val Air before? What's the lineup situation like? And for those of us who can meet up beforehand -- any idea when and where?
  18. I'm flying into Kansas City on Sunday morning, renting a car, and driving up. And will be driving back after the show, because my flight out of Kansas City is at 8am. Still: I'll have a few hours before and after the show to hang out!
  19. Hi. I'm in Denver and need a ticket for the Houston show. Can somebody help me out? My email is agonistes@gmail.com, and I can meet you in Houston the day of the show (planning on flying in in the morning) or do things by mail. thank you!
