give them about 100 listens. they're definitely a "grower" band.

if you don't like this, get out.

this is one of 5 or so albums that would be getting consideration for album of the year if i did those kind of lists.
never gets old (for me, anyway).

Sheff's shouting has become a little annoying during live shows. Okkervil's early records are really subtle and beautiful and sans shouting. Black Sheep Boy had a little bit of it, but it works awesomely. Sounds wierd, but it's hard to enjoy Okkervil River live at times 'cause Sheff isn't always easy to watch....he's a little over-dramatic at times (and not in a good way.)
well, to be fair, the music is pretty over-dramatic. he's not making fluff pop. there's a lot being said.

that's nice of them, especially after jeff's rather odd comments from that 04 acoustic guitar magazine interview.

Best album of this decade, without a doubt in my mind. I love it way too much.
don't know if i'd go that far, but it's definitely top 3.

Me too.
I still love that album.
ditto that.

Saw these guys open for the Ruby Suns and the Dodos recently. I went into this show blind, and of the three bands these guys really stood out. Picked up the vinyl after the show and was impressed on the first listen. Looking forward to getting to know this album.
Impressions of the Past is maybe the "underrated" track on there. it's amazing, but i kind of glossed over it at first.

volcano choir - unmap (this one has totally flown under the radar, and i'm a bit surprised, given the overwhelming love for Bon Iver's last record)
AC - merriweather post pavilion
phoenix - wap
wilco
not in any order.

an old allman brothers messaged board i used to frequent had a great article on the horrible production of gibsons these days. wish i could find it..

I see your point, but it's not the type of thing that jumps out as "wrong," or anything. At least not to me. It all comes together, and fits in to the sound Dylan was aiming for.
One of the things that I respect so much about Dylan's first few full band records is that they were recorded live. These little missteps could have easily been overdubbed, but they weren't. And they don't scream "mistake!" So I just can't view them as flaws.
let's not forget that most of the time dylan just started playing and the guys had to keep up with him.
besides, don't nit pick. enjoy that shit (guy who nitpicked, not original poster).

id like to start by asking what youre recording on...pc, laptop, mac? I assume its a computer. The next step depends on this...
basics are: a good dynamic mic (for example shure 57), entry level to pro level interface (m-audio, for example), software (often bundled with interface), microphone preamp (eventually essential)...dont skimp on the cables, buy good ones...experiment often, there are no rule, just suggested and proven techniques...
I have used pro tools (over-rated with a steep learning curve), logic, peek, and cubase...after all that, i prefer garageband (im a mac guy), it does everything i need, and well...i have since done 4 albums with GB...I master in adobe audition...
linkies HR board tape op board
have fun j
thanks for your help. it all seems very confusing. i was planning on getting a Shure 57, but didn't know about the rest. kudos.

with Win? nah, but we've certainly chatted a few times. very funny/sarcastic guy. the whole band are incredibly fun and cool people for sure, which kind of shows in their live show.
i have a huge crush on Sarah...the violin player. oooy vei.

total hidden gem, this one.
aww yeah. he's amazing. my favorite jazz guitarist (not that i've heard that many, but i really love his stuff with jimmy smith).

i'm thinking of making a record very soon. i've never done it before...i'd like to do it all right here so i can get a grip on learning how to record for the future. it's mostly acoustic stuff...i'd like to track some bass and maybe multiple vocal tracks. nothing too huge. can someone help me out as to where to start?

going to try to see this this weekend. some guy around here (dallas) was hyping it a month ago, and i looked everywhere for it and couldn't find it. luckily its showing at the angelika now. awesome.

i don't usually like those kinds of guitars...but i have to say, that one is pretty sharp.
