I've been listening to the new leaks by The National, Hold Steady, and Gaslight Anthem, none of which have disappointed.
"High Violet" by the National has kind of a rocky first half, that seems to have a hard time finding it's footing, but really picks up at Bloodbuzz Ohio. Runaway and Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks are both incredible."Heaven is Whenever" is a really complete sounding album, with no real weak tracks and a very nice flow. I particularly like the last 4 tracks at this point. "American Slang" is a very nice album, but I need some more time to listen to lyrics and get to know the songs to make a real judgement. The last track is kind of gross, and it makes me miss some of their great ballads like Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts, but The Spirit of Jazz seems like an instant classic.
yeah the last track on American Slang is just weird. totally kills the momentum. I think it should end with Spirit of Jazz.

i'm not "in" on Gayngs at all, but i love it. It's a fun album. If you don't like that style of music, then you probably wouldn't like it. It's kind of tongue in cheek.
-
yeah I usually get the world cafe stuff. beating is a nice word for it.
-
It's not very good in my opinion. I've listened to it twice and kept asking myself "why am I listening to this again?"
well...different strokes for different folks. i love it as an album, but i have to be in a certain mood for it.
that does lead to an interesting question though: why do we listen to anything?
I really liked the last one but Sink or Swim is likely my favorite. Have you have ever heard the more stripped down version of the 59 Sound songs on last year's Record Day Release, Live at Park Avenue? Definitely gave me a deeper appreciation. I saw them open for someone once but have yet to see them headline. Need to check them out.
Live at Park Avenue actually made me appreciate the album a lot more. They have a thinsound when they play live, in my opinion. not enough bass, and it's obvious that Brian tears his voice to shit on a tour.

GAYNGS - Relayted.
some days i'm really wantin to listen to this, some days not so much. today is one of the former days.

Sorry I didn't post a reminder yesterday. I have been looking forward to it all week long.
I am well over the age demographic these guys want to bring in...but I LOVE THIS BAND. Discovering great new bands is what makes music appealing. It Keeps me feeling young.
I ran across these guys listening to KXT, the new public radio station in DFW. The radio was on in the background and "That Western Skyline" came on. At first I thought it was a THE BAND song that I hadn't heard before. Great lead vocals, great harmonies and playing that fits the song. No ego driven overplaying.
These guys call themselves Americana Soul. I wish I had discovered them a couple of months earlier...D-man and I would have taken in their Dallas show.
man every time i listen to KXT they're playing world music. i must be missing out on the good stuff.

Jimmy Fallon sucks.
he's actually really improved the show since he started. i'd say i watch 35% fallon, 65% ferguson, but that's up from a while back.

Beach House - Teen Dream.
love this one. not a bad song on the whole thing. (Real Love is kind of a skipper, though).
-
mediafire is pretty great for anyone that hasn't used it. doesn't require a wait time and upload is pretty fast.

i mean if you want to do CD and you can find someone to do it with, more power to you. but it certainly isn't required. once we have about 6-10 people we can probably get this goin.
-
we did mediafire/sendspace/rapidshare last time. might as well just use this thread.
-
so...
let's resurrect this thread, huh? get a new round going? anyone?
-
Bruised Orange is my favorite of his. So many great tunes.
-
i'm glad no one did Illegal Smile. one of the few Prine songs i just don't like very much.
this cd, however, looks wonderful.
-
Finally got around to this. Works better on paper. Not impressed.
i was tempted to get it a few times, then i saw em on fallon and letterman. nothanks.

how great is this?
hopefully you were able to find a version that didn't include a messed up track 11, cuz that's one of the better songs. Justin's Bone Thugs rap on it kills me
It's better than I thought it would be, and I expected it to be really good. I did get one with a messed up track 11, but I got a fixed track from someone else. Love the whole thing.
