the drummer from The Rural Alberta Advantage is insane. The guy from The National, too.
-
didn't care for this album...but the "gather" album was okay. they are just a little too experimental for me.
hmmm. i can't really see that, but ok.
i mean, i get that Where We Belong is kind of experimental, but it tugs on a lot of heart strings, too (in my opinion).

forgot how much i liked this one. it's one of those that kind of has to be listened to all the way through.
note: Mbira in the Morass is a tough 3:51 to get through.

Generally I think a drum solo at any concert is time to head to the bathroom or get a beer but a good drummer is absolutely key to a band.
As someone who has auditioned many a band member, drummers do seem to be a different breed of cat altogether.
that last sentence is especially true. i'd love to find a drummer who doesn't want to solo at some point, or overplay at any point, etc. it'd be a dream come true.

i can't for the life of me figure out why more people don't love these guys.

one of my fave albums this year by far
definitely an interesting album.
-
Questlove mentioned it a while back, when the album was first mentioned as upcoming. I don't know if they actually recorded it or not, but I would love to hear them play that song.
Don't know if it would fit into the album's sound, though. Unless they gave it a similar kind of jazzy arrangement. Either way, I hope they did record it, or at least play it live.
Zappa's wife probably nixed the whole thing.

they covered Peaches? man i wanna hear that. it's a pretty solid album, though. enjoying it. Dear God 2.0 is really nice.
-
forgot how good this was. yeeeeessss.

This'll keep you occupied for a while.
thanks.

hey where should i start with Big Star? i've never seen a band so few people have heard of get so much attention by one site. i must hear.
-
I must say it is still in heavy rotation for this old man.
yeah, i mean i listen to Western Skyline, When My Time Comes, and Love Is All I Am a lot. God Rest My Soul a bit too. the rest i haven't really listened to much since first hearing the album.
-
yeah they streamed it live that evening. was quite awesome.

i got an old silvertone last september for $300. saw the exact same one on ebay that went for $750. good investment.

Trouble was an excellent album. the follow ups have been okay to pretty good.
-
this dude just keeps puttin em out. i enjoy his stuff, but somehow forget about him until a new one comes out. feels like "gossip in the grain" just came out.
-
i'm digging both tracks off the single. wasn't so much at first, but they're growing on me.
-
yeah Volunteers is on there.
you should really check out both of their LPs, "Bury The Square" and "Gather, Form, & Fly".
-
google la blogotheque + megafaun.
in other news, their "mini"-LP, "Heretofore", comes out in september. EXCITED.
