Too bad they couldn't have booked into a venue with some decent sound for this.

i saw em play the Soft Bulletin in OK City for New Year's Eve, and this was the main problem. It sounded horribly messy and muddy.

Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
After being rather unimpressed with 2007's overly hyped Cryptograms I was hesitant to put this one on. I remember seeing Cryptograms on so many best of 2007 lists...I thought it was a complete bore. I also saw them live back in late 2005/early 2006 and they about made my ears bleed; I was actually embarrassed for them. But this album is great - easily in my top 10.
everything you said above is how i feel about halcyon digest. everyone keeps telling me they're a good band, but i don't hear it.

Impressions of the Past by Megafaun has amazing bass lines.

Good Lord, how the heck did I miss this guy???
seriously. i've only heard his cover of Far From Me by John Prine, and it's excellent. Gettin' his album right now.

just about anything Conor Oberst does.

i've also decided High Violet is good, but not great. or worthy of top 5 status.

"I don't think music media is the real forum for theological discussions,... ...I think I've said things and sung about things that probably weren't appropriate for this kind of forum. And I just feel like it's not my work or my place to be making claims and statements, because I often think it's misunderstood."

for what it's worth, Age of Adz is mostly written from the perspective of Royal Robertson, so it's not really Sufjan writing confessional songs about religion.

Home is very Talking Heads-y.

love that one. saw em open for The Tallest Man on Earth friday night. both were amazing.
-
just recently started listening to him. he's pretty damn good, yep.

i keep hitting repeat over and over and over. he is one of the few artists who it seems gets better and better with every release.

Ocean of Noise is fan-fuckin-tastic.

a tale's a ton...
love this record.

find the new Black Mountain kind of wussy for the most part too, they've lost almost all of their sludge. some of it sounds like Wolfmother
yeah it wasn't as good as i had hoped. some of it is just downright bad. hmm.
