good day, sirs and ma'ams.
-
i LOVE 3-4 songs on the record, but a lot of it is very same-y and a bit more drone-y than I usually like.
gonna check him out live next week anyway tho
yeah, got through all but the last two songs. some of the songs, i think, will be really good once i have an actual copy to listen to away from the computer. it is a little droney and ethereal, but i like that. could use an upbeat number or two. cover art is really nice, though.

on NPR right now. I like.

i have started recording a 4 song EP. extra excited!

The funniest thing about the reviews of The Suburbs is how they all mention how bad Neon Bible was. The praise for that album was off the charts at the time, getting an 87 on Metacritic (The Suburbs sits at an 85 with a little less than half the amount of reviews).
I'm trying to figure out what that means. Are they downgrading Neon Bible to make The Suburbs look better? Did Neon Bible just not age well? Do they just have amnesia? I guess it stands out to me because I happen to be one of the few who prefers Neon Bible to the other two albums.
whose review are you talking about? PFork's? cause i know they had Neon Bible in their top 2 or 3 of 2007, didn't they?

Sorry...I was agreeing with you, meaning what am I missing from this album.
nothin to apologize for. i'm in the same boat. all the songs feel/sound very similar and don't go anywhere. but i felt the same about Neon Bible for about a year and half and only really started to like it in october of last year. maybe Suburbs will be the same way.
-
That would mean it would get a 9.8 or higher. What am I missing here?
it doesn't justify a 9.8? i guess..
-
and i've heard that it may get a higher score from Pfork than Funeral as well
that's just insane.
-
it's a boring album. tried to listen to it again yesterday and couldn't get through it. guess i'll let it sit for a while.
-
there's not a song on there that wows me. gonna take more listens i guess.
-
the difference in sound between this and Funeral is just insane. It's like two totally different bands.
-
yeah i'm digging this. it feels lighter than Neon Bible, but I do like Neon Bible a lot. So far I'm digging the first three songs quite a bit. Modern Man is really cool.
-
ditto that.

seconded. loving Bushwick Blues.
-
my top four looks something like this:
1. Gayngs - Relayted
1a. The National - High Violet
1b. The Tallest Man On Earth - The Wild Hunt
2. Beach House - Teen Dream
a VERY distant 3rd is The Winter of Mixed Drinks by Frightened Rabbit.

my Rangers finally make a real trade for a real ace. sports pants are all messy.
There's no way the Rangers will be able to sign him at the end of the season, though....
Giving up Smoak and three others, apparently. Seems like a lot for half a season but obviously think they can go all the way this year. Their rotation was good before this deal (if true)....
it's true.
and i'm not sure they won't be able to sign him. i think the court process will be over by december.

Little Red Corvette is so fucking catchy. And really well done. etc etc etc.

what's with radio DJs who are so overly wordy?
-
excellent Milwaukee band. a little Wilco-y (in all the good ways).
-
ps - if anyone knows a better reverb pedal, please post a link. Holy Grail isn't getting the best reviews from what I've seen.
-
i'm pondering getting the Holy Grail reverb pedal.
question, though: if i have a reverb knob on my amp, is this a waste of money? i'm using a Hot Rod Deluxe by Fender, btw.
Does anyone here have a music blog?
