  3. and just for example, I'm an out of towner (nyc). and holding tickets for Friday night's show and a show in New Orleans. while I'm leaning towards Chicago, I won't be able to do both trips... ...unless I save Brooke Shields from drowning, and then you're all invited to come see the band play my birthday party.

  4. U2's old propaganda service, was a pay service, that worked fairly well as well. once a tour was announced you would could basically lay claim to the right to buy any two shows (and gave them alternates). the seats were good. and you also got the old fanzine that came every once in a while. they got too big for that style-- and it got squashed when they launched their website (and had a ticket disaster with it initially)... but even then, they did try and make good to the original members.

I think wilco is big enough and smart enough to figure out some cool way of rewarding and providing value to some kind of a pay fan club.

  5. I've always just assumed payoffs and ticket blocks set aside corruption.

never thought I was actually competing against machines!

    both make me: :realmad

but the thought of some terminator-style robots doing it faster than me makes me: :uhoh

  6. I wish they would ban chairs. It's nearly impossible to move close to the stage when you have a thousand fat, stinky, hippie men and women clogging the way. A good portion of the audience plops their fat asses down in front of the stage making it impossible for the real fans to get up close and personal.

well, that's not completely true. there's a section up in front of every stage where chairs are not allowed. you go up the sides to get past the people in chairs. it's not that hard. and one could argue that some of those folks are bigger fans than us "real fans", with them committing to putting their chair down and staying all day to see who they want to see.

it's just a different vibe to the festival, that's all.

I've never brought a chair. I bounce around too much. but I sure have enjoyed the benefits from the folks who have... and also like having a "meeting place" for when its time get back together after splitting up.

and fyi, if your schedule can spare it, and it's extra hot, I high recommend finding time to run over and jump in Barton Springs for 30 minutes. you miss an hour of the festival, but your body thanks you.

  7. Maybe we should just pack our bicycles. Would that make the weekend easier?

for that commute it would be perfect, bike racks are right across from main gate. figure 20 minutes on bike to stubbs. and if you're not bringing coolers/chairs, it's a great way to do the festival, making the commute to and from, a breeze.

  8. that'd be tight, I'd say.

stubbs had early noise curfew, sunday night won't help that.

with traffic and such, I'd give myself a half hour from the front of the festival gate to get to Stubbs via car. it's a ten minute drive. but I'd still give myself a half hour, and that's if I had somebody picking me up/or a cab to do it (regular cars won't be able to come to the front gate to pick you up, you'll have to leave the park to catch your ride and the cabs line is in congested part of the park, by the springs).

but I'd see the cold war kids over the decemberists, anyway.

  9. first off, here's my video of

    .

and here's a couple of shots of the moment of jeff serenading the older fellow mentioned above... who I was lucky enough to meet while in line. he's diehard fan.

hopefully, his daughter (hi becky!) will come on here and tell the story much better than I can!

I just told somebody 2 minutes ago on the phone that I wasn't listening to the band until the show... and then I click on this thread.
