State Champion - Stale Champagne
I'll have to check this one out. Otherwise, nothing.
-
3rd the streetcore. one of my all-time fave albums
ditto that... I never tire of that. I love the Clash but Streetcore is my favorite thing Joe was involved with. Still sucks we won't hear anything new from him. RIP
-
Looking forward to this one. He released 'Walking Far From Home' as a single w/3 other songs and they sound good. Seems a bit of a departure from Shepard's Dog but that shouldn't suprise anyone.
-
2010's highlights for me are:
Delta Spirit - History From Below
Justin Townes Earle - Harlem River Blues
Drive By Truckers - The Big To-Do
The Black Keys - Brothers
Glossary - Feral Fire
I can get behind these. Have you heard Joey Kneiser's solo album? It should have been on my list for sure.
-
-
I could go for a repeat of Jacksonville City Nights.
-
Luther Dickinson for Best Traditional Folk album is pretty cool. Recorded a few days after his Dad passed.
Also rooting for the Black Keys.
-
It's possible that I might even like Mavis less as a result of Tweedy's involvement. It's a great album though.
my best of in no particular order:
Black Keys - Brothers
the Whigs - In the Dark
Henry Clay People - Somewhere on the Golden Coast
Alejandro Escovedo - Street Songs of Love
Band of Horses - Infinite Arms
Deer Tick - Black Dirt Sessions
Greenhornes - *****
Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings - I Learned the Hard Way (maybe Tweedy can produce the next one?)
Bobby Bare Jr - A Storm...
Hold Steady - Heaven is Whenever
National - High Violet (might be my favorite from them)
Trampled by Turtles - Palomino
James Justin Burke - Southern Son, So Far
Justin Townes Earle - Harlem River Blues
-
I'd appreciate a bit of help with this.
-
Most shocking thing about Burke I read in a BBC news story
Damn
"Loving people," he said at a recent performance in London, "is what I do." -
Wow...very sad news. His version of Fast Train is one of my favorite songs of all time.
RIP

Wait, did I miss this?
-
Apparently he had a Harvard law degree. Who knew?
Always enjoyed his standup. RIP.
Yeah, I saw the Harvard thing. I'm a fan and had no idea. He was a bright guy for sure.
Made me sad but it didn't shock me. His cd about 'crossing a river' is absolutely hilarious if you haven't heard it.
RIP

Yeah, saw him open for DBT many years ago and loved him. Highly recommend his other albums.
-
I know that I'll get killed for this but I don't think he has reached the level of his Faces/Gasoline Alley days. Flame away folks but his newer stuff just isn't as good.
-
wow, I think I like this better than midnight at the movies.
I'd like to hear this... I've only heard one song thus far. Love this guy.

Taking note of Solace's recommendation naooo.
This is awesome.
-
Justin Townes Earle new Daytrotter session. Includes 1 new song and 1 unreleased along with a couple of others. Great stuff.
-
you can stream the album via NPR here:

it's f'n awesome.
t-minus x to a full leak I'm sure. I would love to see her on this tour.

we have one smart person, who's next
I really like Big Echo. You can hear influences without it sounding rehashed. Plus I'm a sucker for harmonies.
-
i saw earle last year and it's really sad how bad his new songs are
but for a while there, a long while, the guy was as good as anybody
brilliant songwriter and performer
What new songs are you referring to? His recent albums are generally recognized as very solid albums. I can understand that you don't like them but "sad how bad" the new songs are?
Jerusalem is the only album I don't like much.
-
I saw Earle with the Del McCoury Band touring on that record. Absolutely fantastic show.
As for whether it's a good representation of this stuff ... no, not really. But it's not a bad place to start, imo.
yes, ditto on this. It was great to see but I strongly prefer his non-bluegrass stuff. I agree with the recommendations above but would also add his latest Townes Van Zandt tribute. Amazing stuff.

Iron & Wine - Around the Well
Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger
The Avett Brothers - Country Was
Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin'
Not a horrible way to spend an evening.
New Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit album due April 12

Yes, consider me a fan of his lyrics as well. Looking forward to this in a big way. He played a couple of new ones when I saw him live last.
