  1. Challengers really grew on me since its release and now I really dig it. I took it out of my stereo today to put "Together" in, and I do love the more uptempo feel of the new album. All the New Pornographers' children are above average in my book.

Agreed on Challengers though I do like the new one quite a bit more. Just the appropriate amount of Neko. I actually don't recall any of their albums outside of Electric Version growing on me so quickly.

  2. last song on this album is definitely the best for me, no question.

i like it more than Stay Positive, but i've not had much desire to listen to it a ton with all of the other great albums lately

Agreed on the amount of listens. With the National, Band of Horses, Black Keys, Josh Ritter, Damien Jurado, etc., coupled with the fact the sound on the Hold Steady is pretty poor, I have purposely held off from further listens.

  3. I'm really liking the album. Not a huge departure from the last 2 but very solid. Wondering if they'll be picking up a significant fan-base opening for Pearl Jam. Days of seeing them in small venues winding down?

  4. I didn't find Magic Potion offensive in any way but, with the exception of the first two songs, it didn't hit me like Rubber Factory. Attack & Release still holds top spot but the new one is growing on me quickly. The only thing slowing it down is the fact that 20 other great albums released the same week.

Between the Keys outpt, Keep it Hid, the Drummer release, these guys are definitely a band on the plus side of their creative curve.

  5. There are too many good things coming out in May. I'm gonna have to check that Black Keys album out. I haven't listened to one of thier albums since Rubber Factory.

:blink Attack & Release is absolutely great. I'm liking the new one a whole lot as well. Although some similarities to Attack & Release and Keep it Hid, they are definitely moving in a different direction. Works for me.

  6. I like it a lot better than their last one which was only okay in my book.

I really liked the last one but Sink or Swim is likely my favorite. Have you have ever heard the more stripped down version of the 59 Sound songs on last year's Record Day Release, Live at Park Avenue? Definitely gave me a deeper appreciation. I saw them open for someone once but have yet to see them headline. Need to check them out.

  7. After a few listens, I like it quite a bit. Need to spend more time with it.

For the life of me, I'm not sure why fans didn't like Stay Positive. It has 6 or 7 of my favorite Hold Steady songs on it. I didn't realize that it was something that fans didn't like.
