THAT is a hell of a week!
Cheers -- and yeah really has been, plus my wife is about to give birth to our first child in less than 48 hours! (MJ rubbed her belly for good luck; didn't have time to ask the musical equivalent to do the same : ).
If someone hasn't already, the details of the Colbert video should be divulged -- that was really hillarious. I'll add one -- right before the video of him fades off, he waives, smiles, and yells something like, "I'm from Illinois and I'm a corrupt politician!"

Great night as always. I met Jeff for the first time in between songs during the epic Sacajaballsac set. Incidentally, I met my childhood idol, Michael Jeffery Jordan earlier in the week at Stanley's Pub in Lincoln Park. Oddly enough, I was much more nervous meeting Mr. Tweedy.

I love this thread!
I could write a 1000 word review on this thread. It's so horrifically bad on so many levels, I can't put it down. This thread isn't so bad its good, its so bad its fucking fantastic. I really dig this thread!
To have a truly horrendous thread, you need a lead-off post that sets the tone. It has to be either uncomfortably oppositional, unwittingly ridiculous, or spread false information. Here, we have the last two satisfied. Then we get three consecutive posts that are the virtual equivalent of 'crickets', followed by the inevitable "bullshit" call. Is this thread great or what!?
Then we get the mandatory, "polarizing U2 argument," which, as a bonus, includes a humorous online insult battle! (my favorite battle other than a dance-off).
All of this is interwoven with an equal portion of semi-pointless posts and genuinely hilarious posts. If loving this thread is wrong, I don't wanna be right!
I hope everyone will keep this thread alive by contributing authentically offensive/moronic/humorous posts in the future (I'm confident I've been the first two here) so I can continue to have something to look forward to reading online everyday.
Yes, we can.
I love this thread!

When my first child is born in a few weeks, he'll be born into a world of infinite possibilities. I'm not African-American, I'm Irish-American. But if a black man can get elected to the most powerful office in the world, in a country where those with his ethnicity were enslaved in recent history, then not only will my son grow up with an unprecedented perspective in regard to minorities, but also with the knowledge that he can do whatever he wants.
Sorry for the sentimentality - but if I can't vent here, where can I

AM is SOOOO underated on here. I can listen to it over and over. Hardly listened to Summerteeth at all.
I respect that opinion. However, it occurred to me that if you "hardly listened to Summerteeth at all," you may not have listened to it enough times to let such a layered album unwrap itself for your ears. Me, I have the opposite problem -- I've listened to ST too much (thanks, wife).

Ah, slow down folks. Nel's socks are obviously paramount.

Obama's body language towards Mikal is just plain rude.
This is disturbing. If McCain stands any shot, he runs on a pro-Jorgensen platform with this photo as damning evidence of what the next four years will obviously hold for the Jorgensen constituency.

The Phish of old would've agreed with the three of us. I think that's what makes this hard for me. And while I was bummed with the direction the band took, I could always respect their decision to go on hiatus and then break up. They respected themselves, the music and the phans too much. They knew.
Well said.

I was shocked at how quiet the Prius is. You can sneak right up on a motherfucker in one of those.
Not quite sure why, but I found this hilarious.

I doubt that, I just can't stand them.
You obviously don't know they're the 4th most popular folk-parody duo in New Zealand.

...I like the way Joe [Cocker] sings other peoples songs in general.

Good stuff. My question is -- how many magical scooby snacks were consumed on your road trip?

Let's get back to the issues folks.
So, Sarah Palin's husband calls himself, "The First Dude."
How will this impact her ability to run the free world if President?

this one's better
That one was certainly funnier. But like Basil, I prefer some substantive controversy in my gaffes. You know, like saying you don't know what the job you're about to be nominated for entails..........

Yeah, he'swithout a teleprompter.
that was GAAAAFTASTIC!!!!

watching the republican national convention is making me so gay for Obama right now......

In 1960 it is common belief that Illinois and thus the election were stolen for JFK. Go take a look at the electoral results for 1960 and switch Illinois 27 delegates and give them to Nixon and check to see if the results change. In 2000 the winner of Florida wins. In 2004 Ohio winner wins. In each case the election swings on one state where there are problems. Also go back and re-read about Illinois in 1960. The common misocnception is that Daley stole the state, but what is convieniently forgotten is that republican downstate Illinois had just as many irregualrities as the six county area. 1960 did not at all come down to one hotly contested state regardless of what myths you might have been brought up to believe.
Good stuff -- thanks for the knowledge.

Fred Thompson should stick to acting
is there any way we could get him to not do that either?

I'm watching the RNC, and they said McCain's adopted Bangladesh daughter googled herself to find out about the attacks against her in 2000. I think left and right can agree -- that really sucks.
P.S. I think I'd vote for McCain's 90-some year old Irish Mom without hesitation........(if the VP candidate was credible, of course).
Which is a better motive. The government fucks things up for fun.Easy now. I work for the Government. We do NOT fuck things up for fun. We fuck things up because we're incompetent.

As someone who was posting brilliant political commentary at bobsquared's age, I say being young does not prevent one from having well-formed opinions.
I agree completely (although not having heard/read it, I can't vouch for the brilliance of your commentary: ). But he admitted he had only "heard some stuff" about the topic he was debating.
"Sarah Palin drives a Zamboni to work."
-I think I have a new favorite.
