  1. This was hard. Here's my selection, with the reasons why:

1 I am trying to break your heart: Love the lyrics, love the mood, love the crazy-sounding piano

2 Outtasite: Makes me happy -- great way to motivate me driving to work on a Monday morning

3 Either Way: Makes me happy, my rainy morning, sipping coffee on my balcony song

4 Hummingbird:Just a sweet song about unrequited love. Story of my life

5 Company in my back: Love it when he sings, I will alwyas die, I will alswys die, I will always die so you can remember ME -e-e

    6. Spiders (live): Killer -- makes my heart bond and blood run.

    7. Poor Places: That thudding bass line

    8. Misunderstood: When I'm really pissed, air dumming to the live version helps get the agression out.

    9. Less Than You Think: My favote line - The night is dissolvong in a cup God lifts to toast the lightening.

    10. Via Chicago: The emotion in his voice in the final "I'm coming home ..."

    11. I'm A Wheel: Just one thing: That scream. I just got chills thinking about it.

    12. You Are My Face: Quiet, quiet BREAK OUT LOUD quiet

    13. Walken: I want to somone to think about me during a stroll, too

    14. Heavy Metal Drummer: Who does not look back to high school or college and smile at the memories of easier times.

    15. Impossible Germany (live) -- funny, never liked this song when I heard it live before SBS came out. Now, I love it. When all three guitars start playing the same riff -- here come the chills again!

    16. Bull Black Nova: Cos its scary and I like a good scare

    17. I'll Fight: Jeff does 50's girl band -- and does it well.

    18. California Stars (live, solo acoustic): Because his voice is pure and full of love

    19. In a Future Age:The acoustic guitar -- once more, chills.

    20. Dreamer in my Dreams: It makes me want to grab all my friends and dance till were dripping with sweat.

  2. Okay -- it's happened to us all. You having a great time at the show, then someone or a group of somones kind of spoil it. And it usually comes down to a lack of respect for those around you. Most Wilco fan are nice and respectful of others' concert experiences -- but there may be a bad apple in the mix. So, if you want to sit and cotemplate to music, or shake your thang, here are some suggestions I have to ensure that all people can have a great time. As Jeff said, "It's not just you. You're part of a group of people in a really beautiful way. It's wonderful."

    Let's keep it wonderful, folks!

1 -- No talking duing solo acoustic shows (that's obvious)

2 -- Make friends! Friends make the long wait on line fun and interesting. Friends save your spot in the front row -- that you braved hours in the boiling sun, soaking rain, or feeezing cold for - when you need a drink, snack, or potty. (BTW -- this has never been difficult at the Wilco show.)

3 -- If you want to get in the front at a General Admission show, get on line early with the rest of the die hards -- the folks who braved hours in the boiling sun, soaking rain, or feeezing cold. I don't care if your sweet gray-haried grandma is in the front row, just don't do it. And just because your boobs are big and shirt is low, does not mean entitlement for the front. You have to work or pay for it.

4 -- Repect personal space. Feel free to dance and bop at will -- I do -- but no one wants you mashing up against them or stepping on their toes. Try what I do -- I don't move my feet. I bounce in place. A bonus-- this is a great upper thigh and ass work out. If I had 2 or 3 shows a week, my ass would be rockin!

5-- Repect the opening act. They are well aware that we can't wait for them to end, but if the bands we love like them enough to have them open, then they deserve our attention.

Those are some of my thoughts. I realize that I may get beat up a little bit for this, but you are all thinkin it, right?

  3. Just saw this on REM site:

"An all-star cast, including Michael Stipe, has contributed songs to Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy, a compilation of the Miracle Legion front man's songs which serves simultaneously as a tribute to the songwriter (whose wife Melissa passed away recently, leaving him with three-year old twins) and a benefit. Ciao My Shining Star - The Songs of Mark Mulcahy, will be released on September 7th in the UK and September 29th in the USA.

    01. Thom Yorke - “All for the Best”

    02. The National - “Ashamed of the Story I Told”

    03. Michael Stipe - “Everything’s Coming Undone”

    04. David Berkeley - “Love’s the Only Thing That Shuts Me Up”

    05. Dinosaur Jr. - “The Backyard”

    06. Chris Harford and Mr. Ray Neal - “Micon the Icon”

    07. Frank Black - “Bill Jocko”

    08. Vic Chesnutt - “Little Man”

    09. Unbelievable Truth - “Ciao My Shining Star”

    10. Butterflies of Love - “I Have Patience”

    11. Chris Collingwood of Fountains of Wayne - “Cookie Jar”

    12. Frank Turner - “The Quiet One”

    13. Rocket From the Tombs - “In Pursuit of Your Happiness”

    14. Ben Kweller - “Wake Up Whispering”

    15. Josh Rouse - “I Woke Up in the Mayflower”

    16. Autumn Defense - “Paradise”

    17. Hayden - “Happy Birthday Yesterday”

    18. Juliana Hatfield - “We’re Not in Charleston Anymore”

    19. Mercury Rev - “Sailors and Animals”

    20. Elvis Perkins - “She Watches Over Me”

    21. Sean Watkins - “A World Away From This One” "

  4. One more thing -- who feels kind of bad for Sam? Seems like his older brother kind of over shadows him. Time for give the love to Sammy. Older siblings suck -- I know, I got 6.

  5. I wish my dad was a cool at JT -- I love my dad, don't get me wrong, he's the best dad in the world -- but he was more of a TURN THAT CRAP DOWN dad than a rock out with his daughter dad. Although now in his 70's, I think he's ready to rock.

I find it funny that there are descriptipns of what the boys are wearing in the photos: "On Tweedy Dries Van Noten jacket, Levi's jeans, Ray-ban sunglasses."

I know it's an advertising/promotional thing -- just never thought of Jeff as a Fashion Icon, Pat -- maybe, but not Jeff.

  6. Who's got the post-concert blues? I do!

Hands down -- this was the best Wilco show I've seen -- they really hit it out of park (ugh -- bad pun) The venue, the music, the people -- a total trifecta.

It was nice to meet Wilco Worshipper by the bus (my fellow die-hard stalker! -- I followed the bus a bit on the way home) -- as well as Laurie and Missy in the front row. Only bummer was the slighty wasted girl who clammerd her way to the front during the encore. Some people really need to learn their Geneal Admission Etiquette -- and have a bit more respect for personal space.

Jeff was just gorgeous and hysterical -- loved how he lifted his shirt during "she lifted up her shirt". And he made sounds with his guitar and voice that made me squeal with delight.

Highlights -- Too far Apart, Hoodoo Voodoo, Blue Black Nove, Spiders and I'm A Wheel.

Anyone discover what the deal was with the tux jackets on the roadies?

And Conor did a good job, give the boy a break, he's troubled. It was not too long ago that our Jeff was a troubled boy, too.

  7. It was a sad, sad day when I realized that I like anything Wilco more then anything REM. I've loved REM since 84, and felt like they were part of my growing up. But, I just don't think Michael Stipe's lyrics come close to Jeff's.

I am on the REM minority cos I Love Reveal and Up and New Adventures in Hi-Fi. Around the Sun did suck, but I think it was the production cos those songs live kick ass. And in 50 years when they look back at REM's catelog, they will say the Leaving New York was one of their best songs. For me, it's just go real emotion.

Accelerate kicks ass. Great for the gym,. Horse to Water, LOVE IT.

Also, So, Central Rain is still my favorie song of all time.

And who said the REM's other members do not contribute as much as Stipe.Need I remind you of a few things -- Mike Mills' gorgeous harmonies, the band almot broke up whe Bill Berry left, and Peter Buck's Rickemnbacker? Berry, Buck, and Mills wronte all the music -- I firmly believe that we'd all me listeing to robots if Peter Buck did not pick up the Rickenback and bring back guitart music in the early 80s.

Funny thing is I was just thing the other day that for years, my two favorites were REM and Robyn Hitchcock, and now that's transitioning to Wilco and Andrew Bird. Life changes and goes on.

And for the recond, Peter Buck could still get lucky with me. See him lately with Robyn Hitchcock? He is all that.

  8. So -- next week when Wilco will be in NYC, I will be there too -- but working. My company is holding an event at the Marriott Marquis in Time Square, where I will be from Sat. to Thurs. So, instead of a Wonderful Wilco Week that could have taken me from Delware to Maine, I'll be tied to my laptop in some remote, isolated room deep in the bowels of the hotel.

Will I be going to Keyspan Park -- just a short drive away? No.

Will I be standing outside Letterman's studio, just a hop, skip and jump away, hoping to catch a glimpse of my favoirte band? No.

At some point next week, we will probably be within a few blocks of each other -- yet I will be locked to my laptop.

    Sigh.

I've just set my sites on Wappinger's Falls -- and will barrel through the next week of corporate BS and ass-kissing, knowing that on Saturday night I will be (God willing)in the front row of Duchess Stadium dancing my tuckus off.

Thanks for leting me vent -- you are the only ones who understand my woe.
