  1. Speaking of PTA, this was on IFC last night: Very good film (with a shout out to John Doe's small role), but it has one of the greatest scenes in any movie, specifically the drug deal gone bad. The actors in that room (Alfred Molina, Thomas Jane, John C., et al), the cheesy (or not, you decide) 80's rock, and those god damn firecrackers had a visceral effect on me at the theater way back when, and the scene still plays powerfully even on the small screen. Tonight:
  2. THANK YOU!!! I travel quite a bit for work and can NEVER find used music locations, other than one I found near the 59&53 intersection in Utica, MI. Bull Moose is a given, since I have a meeting in Saco that will get out mid-afternoon. Thanks for the info. And I'm going to take a shot at the screen name and guess...you "ain't all that humble" (I'm just going leave the second part of that right out, assuming I'm wired into the origin of the screen name)
  3. Anything that helps the artist's exposure ultimately helps the artist for the exact reasons cited above, and I can speak of this from personal experience. In fact, I would go so far as to say buying used helps all artists. By supporting the indy store, the indy store becomes more financially solvent, allowing them to make stock purchases of up-and-comers, who they can then recommend to the regular customers (because they know the regulars and are able to make good suggestions), and these up-and-coming bands become more and more popular, then decide tou se that popularity to take up a cause li
  4. If you have the time (and it sounds like you do), avoid the interstates at all costs. I don't know where in CT you are, but as an example: Interstate from Hartford to Albany is 91 to 90 to 87. Most exciting spot is the sign that says "Highest Point on Turnpike - 1724 feet. Next highest point - Oacama, SD - 1729 feet." Or Tekoa (?) Mountain overlooking the Westfield River. Other than that, yippee. OTOH, take US-44 to US-7 to whatever MA road turns into NY-23. Shoot up the Taconic and then take the thruway, or just stay on NY-23 to US-9, then north. Might take you twice as long (maybe longe
  5. For anyone going to the DC shows (well, anyone at all, really), John Doe is headlining on Thursday in Baltimore at the 8x10. http://www.the8x10.com/index_content.html If I were fortunate to be down there, I'd be seriously considering it.
  6. Thanks for the welcome, KS. Am I reading this right - other than the residency shows, Can't Stand It had not been played by the full band in 5
  7. Giving Summerteeth more attention, but here's another vote for A.M. being the "go-to" album, esp. Box Full of Letters and Casino Queen
  8. I heard the 2nd half of the 4th night on the local radio's stream - sounded good to me. You know, if I ask this question it may be taken the wrong way, but I still gotta ask. Keep in mind that I absolutely loved the show, but... Was this an really an off-night for the band? I know there are a lot of people here who have seen a lot of shows, so you have to know. Be honest, please. Here is why I ask: 1) Tweedy's voice was tired. Fortunately, for his vocal style, this didn't really hurt the sound, but I sensed that he wasn't get the performance he expected. 2) After the high of the reside
  9. Looks like this board is full of veterans. Anyone interested in hearing a newbie's take? I haven't been a fan for very long, but I have become a fan in a BIG way. Side note - my journey to Wilco came about very circuitously. I am a huge fan of the Conet Project tapes, finding them oddly hypnotic and excellent late night driving/dentist chair/programming noise, so I had to check out the band who got into trouble for an un-authorized sample. But I digress. So, new fan, though I would now be hard pressed to name another band I like more. Having become slightly agoraphobic in my advancing year
  10. My wife and I will be there, driving from Rochester, NY via Pittsburgh. Actually, already drove to Pittsburgh, just have to finish the drive. Bringing myself out of concert retirement for this one. Haven't been to any sort of live show in about a decade (hate crowds). Biting the bullet to see Wilco, though. Does anyone know if the band is doing Simple Twist of Fate on this tour?
