  1. 1999? You're right, not worth anything (to anyone else), but I'm all for carrying odds bit of stuff around. I have a series 1935E silver certificate and a $1 bill with seven 7's in the serial number I've been carrying around for years. Actually been through three wallet changes with those bills.....
  2. IIRC, the Honus Wagner card that is worth so much was the one that was put out by a cigarette company when they used to put cards in packs of smokes. Wagner was vehemently anti-tobacco and requested/forced the company to cease and desist. So few cards were produced, and fewer survived, that drove it to the status it's at. While a Cracker Jack card would be valuable, it isn't the big one. Now, a blaspheme so I don't get in trouble: Oprah Winfrey is a danger to the fabric of society. Edit: I don't recall exactly correctly. Honus Wagner T206 card
  3. Tanglewood is a very odd place for Wilco to perform, and quite a few questions are running through my mind (unimpeded by anything of import). I found this article from a local paper, which explains how they were chosen, buts leaves a lot of why questions. First, should this be considered an extreme honor to be chosen? At first glance, I would say yes, but the article indicates that in previous years, the chosen bands were Journey and the Cars. Learning curve for the folks at TW? When it was indicated that the BSO researched the band, I wonder what they were looking at - musicianship, cri
  4. Arrested Development hasn't been mentioned (I do not believe....)
  5. I don't know why I find this so fascinating, but can anyone point me in the direction of things like: Wilco - Outtasite (Outta mind)/Outta Mind (Outta Sight) Matthew Sweet - The Ugly Truth/Ugly Truth Rock (honorable mention) Beatles - Revolution/Revolution 1 (not same album, but recorded very near each other, and fundamentally the same song. Revolution 9 wouldn't count) Alternate takes as bonus material don't count. TIA
  6. As hard as I try to remove the personality of the artist from the work of the artist (which is why I can think that Sean Penn is the greatest living actor), I've never been able to do this for Hanks . And I'm probably dead wrong, he may be a great guy. For me, however.....
  7. Keeping in mind that I generally agree with your other thoughts, I'll go mano a mano with you on this one.... Tom Hanks seems like a pretentious prick and if he's attached to something it will quite a bit to win me over to the project. Felt this way since his Philadelphia acceptance speech, and I just can't shake the feeling.
  8. Other than Schindler's List, Spielberg is the singular most over-rated director. Ever. In fact, his movies are not only not good, they're terrible. (And someone else beat me to beating up on QT)
  9. Only if it has white hots, extra hot sauce! We do training in the Rochester area for people from all over the northeast. It has become a tradition for us to force garbage plates on the non-vegetarians one day a week. Not the day they're leaving though, as we don't want to put anyone through the small hell of a long drive after a garbage plate. IIRC, the bock is spring time only. My Genny memories are coming back, though. Since you seem to be a fan, do they still make the 12 horse? I think I may be the original "guy" referred to here. Feel free to speak for me as long I still retain
  10. Wow, guess they're doing a little more up at the brewery than I thought. Is it just the cream available, or the beer also?
  11. There are beers other than Guinness? Seriously, though, I find it hard to drink just about anything else. When presented with the choice of cheap beer/no beer, it's no beer. Prolly the cheapest I'll go is Labatt. Used to like Rolling Rock, but I was working in Latrobe the day they announced the buyout/closing of the brewery, and I gotta tell you, the local's reaction was a bit strong. Decided on that day to show a little solidarity with them. Otherwise, maybe a (free) Genny, but I'm not sure they even make it any more (To the OP, I'm surprised you can find Genny Cream. The brewery folded
  12. Thanks for the reassurance! I dinna know it only held 1100. But still, "Family Circle" (are Billy and the the other ones and the I don't know ghost gonna be there?) at 10:10 AM is a bit, well, much...... (On a very, very strange note, this is the third time I've bought Wilco tix, each time I've gotten the same row number, and I got the same seat numbers this time. Three different venues. Odd.)
  13. I was on at 10AM for the Delaware show, kept getting stoned. Ultimately got 4 tix in the nosebleeds at 10:10AM. Unbelievable.
  14. Depends a lot on the company, but here are some examples, personal and first hand (I work in a high travel field): 1) Assigned company car. Gas/routine maintenance covered 80%. Everything else paid for, OK for personal use (nothing too extreme) [This person drives 95% of the time for work] 2) Allotment of $800/month, $0.20/mile for business use [This person drives 75% of the time for work, the rest air travel] 3) Government rate for personal vehicle. Personal vehicle use frowned upon for trips in excess of 50 miles. Over 50 miles, company has corporate account with car rental agency. Everyt
  15. When I work out of the office, 32 miles each way. In road warrior mode (about 1/3-1/2 the time), I average about 50k/yr. Personal driving, not work related, is about 4k/yr.
  16. April 13, Near Scranton, Pa - $3.30 April 15, Central NJ - $3.16 April 18, West Central NJ - $3.28 April 22, Rochester NY - $3.70 I've dropped my interstate speed significantly over the past few months for that extra 10-20% mileage.......
  17. YES!!!! Section 4, Row G, seats 11&12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now for the truly bizarre part of my Wilco day. I've seen one show before (Cleveland). So as I do my little "I've got tickets" dance, one of the students we have in house today mentions that she has seen Wilco once before. In Cleveland. In the same row I was in. Given that Cleveland is a 4
  18. I heard a nasty little rumor that they un-"squiggled" squigglevision. Please tell me that it's not true! For some odd reason, I got to thinking about Ang Lee the other day. He must have one of the most diverse filmographies of any successful director around. # A Little Game (2009) (announced) # Se, jie (2007) ... aka Lust, Caution (USA) ... aka Se jie (China: Mandarin title) # Brokeback Mountain (2005) # Hulk (2003) # Chosen (2001) ... aka The Hire: Chosen (USA: series title) # Wo hu cang long (2000) ... aka Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (International: English title) (UK) (USA) ..
  19. I've got the iPod shuffling, this came on forcing me to listen to the whole album: Totally forgot about this band, but I see they put out quite a bit of material since then. Anyone heard it? How is it?
  20. Another supermarket Impossible Germany sighting (hearing?) today. Went to lunch at Wegman's in Canandaigua, NY, walked in at the exact moment it started. Weird....
  21. Hmmmmm. Fly to Albuquerque May 1/2, 5 days camping in Canyonlands NP in Moab, three shows, leave Albuquerque May10. I just may be able to sell that! We can call the Economic Stimulus package the Wilco Stimulus package.......
  22. Hey, how do you think I spent my "pi" second? More Pi fun - http://www.eveandersson.com/pi/ including a most excellent pi trivia that I did HORRIBLY on.
  23. 3/14 at 1:59. (Trying to get this post in at exactly 1:59)
  24. woohoo! IFC is showing a film tonight that I always wanted to see, but never remembered that I wanted to see it! The Assassination of Richard Nixon I've always been a supporter of Sean Penn as one of the greatest actors of his generation, and this, IIRC, was an extremely well received pic.
  25. Genndy Tartakovsky was a huge factor in the success of Cartoon Network, and now, for whatever reason, his stuff is never on. Just imdb'd him, and he's really got nothing in the works other than an adaptation of The Dark Crystal. There have been so many rumors of an SJ movie that they are all pretty much meaningless now.
