Ugh, that's terrible. Death is hard enough to explain to young kids, but I don't know how you're supposed to explain suicide.  Although I suppose that's a detail they don't need to know right now.  Regardless, my deepest condolences to you and your family.

Thanks.  I've had a steady grin for the past 24+ hrs that I can't remove!   

My wife and I rarely fight.  Last night we got into an argument because she claimed that I "don't hate Trump enough."  While unlike her, I don't promise to assassinate him on a nightly basis,  I had to argue and demonstrate that I do, in fact, hate Trump plenty.  She was unmoved.  This morning we laughed about it and promised to turn off CNN for a week.  Sign of the times.

Sadly, I can relate.  The fact that my parents and many of my relatives are Trumpers causes some occasional tension since I won't disown them (and God forbid, I give them the benefit of the doubt from time to time).

Had an interview today that seemed to go really well at a company I would really like to work for... trying to not get overly excited about it but feeling good right now.

I'm shocked that my old neighborhood in MI (which I felt was very conservative) went 55% for Clinton, but my new neighborhood in hippy-dippy southern CA went 52% Trump.

They have to decide, are they Trump supporters, or Republicans. At this point you can't be both in good faith.

To KevinG's point above, it is interesting how/why a story like the kids in the cave captivates so many people while a story like 3,000 kids at the Mexican border becomes accepted or a story like the boat that capsized off of Thailand on Saturday killing at least 44 people gets little to no attention.  

 

It was a life-and-death drama that was unfolding by the hour and had nothing to do with partisan politics.

We had a great time marching for families in Long Beach this morning. 

That's me w/ my 2 awesome kids, my 1st generation Mexican-American wife, and my once-illegal mother-in-law who became a citizen under Reagan's amnesty program in the mid 80's. 

My mother-in-law came to the US in '69 with 3 little kids.  My wife was the first of 2 born here.  Of those 5 kids, she raised a Marine (who later became a master electrician), a labor & delivery nurse (RN), a bilingual elementary school teacher, a university professor (my wife), and a doctor (the baby of the family, of course). 

Fuck anyone who says "illegals" are bad for America and fuck anyone who thinks it's ok to pull kids away from their families solely because of their immigration status.

I had the exact same reaction.

He certainly could have, but didn't give enough of a shit.  He's almost dead anyway, so what does it matter to him if the country turns to hell?  He won't have to experience it.

This, too.  He's been the swing vote in nearly every 5-4 decision the court has faced over the past 2 decades.  He knows what kind of justice will be appointed by Trump, too.  Short of him announcing that he has terminal cancer or something, fuck him.

It would take some unfathomable act of God for the appointment to be delayed until after the Nov election.  Our only hope is that the Dems take over both the House and Senate and use that position to prevent Trump from tilting the court any farther to the right.  But this seat is all but gone.

I've read that eating balut was one of the filtering steps for contestants who wanted to be on Fear Factor. 

If you get a young one then it's not too bad.  That was what I had.  The older ones have more developed feathers, beak, etc. which makes it significantly more challenging.

Not part of my usual diet, but I worked with a guy from Laos who brought some in for us.  I was one of the few who would try it.  Tastes like chicken (seriously).
