  1. Shortest 20 miles to Popejoy Hall in Albuquerque

Longest ~2400 miles to N. Adams

The nice thing after reading through this thread is that Wilco continues to remain accessible to the people by playing medium and even small venues and markets,  So many bands with the popularity of Wilco just skip backwater spots and play the major cities.

  2. I've driven many times from Albuquerque and from South Carolina to that area, I grew up near Albany, NY.  If you're coming up I-95 it can get hairy through NJ, but I haven't driven that way since the 80's, no idea how the drive is anymore.  A 14 hour drive is about my max anymore for a single day if I'm alone, with 2 drivers going longer isn't a problem, just rest when you get bleary.

  3. Okay, so tentatively we're going to solid sound. HELP I have no idea what I am doing as far as booking a place to stay/anything about the area (or the NE in general!)

Are you driving or flying?  If you're flying I would fly into Albany, NY and rent a car, it's only an hour or so to N. Adams and the drive is nice.

  4. at 2nd SSF?  I was there but didn't catch the sound check, but I was in line outside MassMoca the year they did the benefit show and was able to hear the soundcheck and am almost certain they soundchecked Say You Miss Me then too.  I could be completely wrong about that, but that's my best memory.

It was the first SSF when they played Say You Miss Me during sound check.

  5. It was a great show, what did you expect?  My wife and I met up with BillyDee from CO before the show for some food and beers, Bill is a great guy who has been taping Wilco and many other bands for years, so you can expect a nice recording of both the Minus-5 & Tweedy.

Jeff was pretty quiet for the first 4 or 5 songs and then got real chatty, lots of high altitude jokes, Santa Fe is at 7500', jokes about the age of the audience (old) and New Mexico green and red chile, you'll get to hear it on the recording

  6. Good point...I may just go to both and probably should.

A couple years ago we moved to a place (Durango CO) which is 4-7 hours from anywhere Wilco might ever play again. The only exception being Telluride which is only 2 hours away and the chances of that are pretty slim.

We talked about it this morning and we think we can deal with the Field GA setup at Scottsdale. We've been looking for a reason to check out the Phoenix area so this will work for that.

    Hey Billydee,

Are you going to catch Tweedy in Santa Fe on March 26th?  Only 4ish hours for you, the wife and I will be there.

  7. My first mind blowing song was at a Loggins & Messina concert around 1975, my 1st concert at 12 years old. Heart opened and they were still really new, they were mind blowing enough, but my sister and I were there to see L & M, and they didn't disappoint, their whole show blew me away, but the song Vahevala, something like 20 minutes long blew my socks off.  That song set the stage for the years to come of going to Dead shows.  I remember being on a high for days after that show.

  8. It looks like Tweedy is going to do one more swing through the U.S. in March before Wilco begins its pre-SOlid Sound Southern tour..

I stumbled across a listing at the ticketing service that handles shows for the Lensic Theatre here in Santa Fe, and they show a Tweedy show on March 26, with an on-sale date of January 10. I presume other dates in the tour will be announced soon, probably after the New Year.

    Awesome!  See you there Ed!

  9. Same issue with the concerts at Ommegang.  The beer is so tasty, and goes down great, but is high test.  Another great one in New England that is not well known is Ghandi Bot.

I'm going to throw out another plug for Utica Club.  The first beer sold after prohibition was abolished.  Cheap, cold, great flavor.  Made by the West End Brewery, who went on to make Saranac products.  But they still make UC, although it's hardly distributed beyond upstate NY.  It may even be hard to find  in Albany.  But nothing tastes better on a hot day.  Actually it's great after skiing too.  Very upstate.

Do you remember Matt's splits?  Used to buy 8 packs, I think, of Matts splits in high school, good stuff.  Wasn't a split an 8oz clear bottle?  That was a long time ago and a lot of beer under the bridge since then...

  10. The first show is tomorrow night, my wife and I are flying in tomorrow and will be staying at the Comfort Inn Downtown on Demonbreun St., anyone else staying there?  Meet for beers?

  11. Looks like Nels will be joining Phil and Friends at the Capitol Theater.

"At 74-years-old there's still no stopping Phil Lesh. Hot off a four-night stand of Phil Lesh & Friends shows at Terrapin Crossroads that just wrapped a few nights ago, Lesh brought a version of the project to Central Park's SummerStage last night for the first show of yet another four-night run. Phil and John Scofield, Warren Haynes, John Medeski and Joe Russo played the outdoor NYC venue on Wednesday night and will repeat the feat on Saturday. Tonight and tomorrow, Lesh brings the same lineup, with John Kadlecik subbing in for Haynes, and Wilco guitarist Nels Cline along as a special guest, to The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY. That's quite a busy four nights for even a young musician, let alone a legend in his golden years."
