  1. This is a beautiful performance.

Jeff performed it Saturday night and commented that the title of this song is actually "Open Mind"

I knew that when I posted, but my fingers didn't obey....

Saturday night? Did he play in your living room?

  2. I was skeptical going to this show, it was an all day thing called The Thirsty Ear Festival, held at this old western town movie set up near Santa Fe. Anything going on in or near Santa Fe has strong woo-woo potential, and this fit the bill perfectly. Plus I had seen Po Girl in 05 or 06 at a bar in Albuquerque, they had a couple of members of the Be Good Tanyas along, they played an excellent show though it was over the top estrogenized, I'm not big on women who want to kick my ass. When my wife told me about this thing I was like, you go with our daughter I need to work around the house, that didn't fly. Anyway, the music...we had a lunch ticket to see Po Girl, they played their folky stuff, JT joined them at one point, they're all solid musicians, and the two women have good voices, not to mention that they're not bad looking either. I don't know their songs so I can't speak to the lyrical content. JT & the Clouds played a couple hours later, and they rocked pretty hard, I have to say I enjoyed their music, kind of soulish, folkish, I don't really know how to describe it, again I don't know the lyrics. Later on the small stage, JT & Allison and some random band members did an acoustic set which was really good. Afterward they hung out in the crowd, my 16 year old daughter had a blast talking with them, they were all nice people. I was pleasantly surprised that the crowd at this show wasn't all women with an axe to grind. Maybe give them another listen.

  3. Wow, no one huh? I thought Wilco fans would be into these guys. JT (Jeremy Lindsay) is head guy and song writer and is charismatic Like JT of Wilco fame. Check out some vids, though most of these don't them justice.

Okay, only 1 media file, so check youtube for others...

  4. Oh it was definitely the venue/crowd. I had seen them in Albuquerque in 2008 at Popejoy hall, same type of place as the Tucson venue, on the campus of UNM, typical stuff at Popejoy is Broadway shows and classical music. At Popejoy they tore the house down! The crowd stood for the first song (Hummingbird) and never sat back down for entire show, no booze was served there either. Back to the SW tour of 2009, my family and I caught them in El Paso - down town in the grittiest city in the US probably, and at a venue that was pretty marginal, but the crowd was awesome, so grateful and unpretentious, we were on our feet the entire time. Then we motor in to Tucson the next day and find Centennial hall and it's GORGEOUS, and the people at the show are way less hip then they thought they were - totally pretentious - what was the result? A stuffy show. The crowd didn't even know Hotel Arizona, Jeff gave them shit about it too. Listening to the recording of that night it was still an awesome show, but having been there the vibe was not the best. We caught them again two nights later in Pomona, that was the best of the three shows, and again at Red Rocks a week or two later and that was good, but too big for my tastes.

  5. Anyone trekking to Phoenix to catch Jeff Tweedy this Sunday? We're headed out Sunday morning from Albuquerque and staying downtown somewhere. We'll be front row balcony the section left of center, hope to see you there!

    Merry Christmas!

  6. Dark and creepy - Radio Cure

Last summer on our family Wilco sojourn we were in Pomona and the first six songs were all repeats from El Paso and Tucson, great tunes but I was kind of ho-hum, then they played Radio Cure and I turned to my wife and said this song is really creepy. The show exploded after that tune, there was no looking back, ever since I really love live renditions of that song.

  7. The tune is about migraines I think. He talks about puking and being forcibly slowed down. His body being taken over by an alien force (company in my back, steady rush). That's my guess.

    spot on
