  1. Did everyone get Nels' current mailer, about the upcoming shows and stuff? I'm reading the piece on the upcoming Stained Radiance show in CT. Seeing how that's not far from my home, I get interested, then see the piece on free tickets to anyone who mails in the correct answer first. Being a neurotic Nels fan and having scoured every bit of his website in the past, I quickly email the answer... and won! I get the email from Dennis all excited, and as i'm writing him back, glance over at the calendar, and there, right in the box next to January 7th is a big number one drawn there. Saturday i
  2. A question from the one western mass wilco obsessive who didn't go this weekend (i swear i have a good reason, a doctor's note, whatever you need... ok, my 4 year old would have loved it, but I wasn't gonna bring the 7 month old, just a wee bit small for a long day like that), so, is there any word or confirmation of anything going on next year? Because, well, bring a 5 and a year+7 month old doesn't seem too bad of an idea. Glad everyone had a great time, wish we were there.
  3. This is what I came to post. i'm 34, been to countless shows in my life, and seeing Burma a year ago (and the day before Wilco hit Lowell and the rain) was the only show that made me gush like a 14 year old at a Taylor Swift show. I came off as such an idiot to Roger after for just being such a pathetic fanboy, but I don't care. Plus the Burma Mk2 records may not live up to Vs. but they are some of the best things put out in the last 10 years, especially Obliterati.
  4. Years ago I worked for a small music store for a few months, they carried Gibson, Danelectro (then in resurgance 1999 or so), Ibanez, Yamaha, Martin and a few odd ball ones (Jay Turser, things like that). I remember a lot of people at the time wanting fenders, but they wouldn't stock them because apparently if you carried Fender guitars, you had to stock their amps, Squire, Guild and pretty much everything Fender owns, and there was a minimum dollar amount you had to carry too. I'm sure that it's like that for any of the biggies, so the Gibson deal isn't really surprising, just more a sad trut
  5. It really was a quite wonderful show, of course being a neurotic reader I knew what was coming and going so it was a bit standard in that respect, but really, One by One was just glorious, Nels' Ashes solo just floored me, we were apparently quite better singers than Conchord was, and Jeff isn't a fan of their grapes. Also, calling an overzealous usher Barry Gibb (do i have the right Bee Gee?) from the stage was cute. Happy Birthday to Nate, the drum tech tonight, and everyone taking a turn wearing the birthday hat/headband/chinstrap for Nels was also fun. Still post-concert buzzing with exc
  6. Would love to, but i'm in Springfield, MA. Gotta work till 5, run home, grab the wife, kiss the kids and be on our way. Fast food on the road makes me feel like a 15 year old all over again.
  7. are you... me? that's my same list of shows exactly. I love the Bushnell, have taken the wife there for Phantom of the Opera, Wicked and The Producers. While not a rock and roll venue, it will be fantastic for a 3 hour Wilco show.
  8. Got exciting getting towards the end because I was hoping some crazy Nels freak out on national tv (like the old live versions of the track) but instead it dwindled down to the album ending. Good performance, my favorite of all the late night shows they've hit on this album cycle (i'm sorry, but i'm in the minority that finds You and I to be dreadful on the album and was even worse on Letterman, hearing how well Feist and Jeff sang together on the Oar songs made me even angrier)
  9. Got in on the hartford presale this morning. Wife is delighted since it'll be our first real night out since our second spawn came a week ago. My only nervousness is me wondering if "Rear Mezzanine" really means "Balcony" but oh well, it's still tickets to Wilco (4th show in less than 2 years, damn, at least we can't get rained out like Lowell, wait, can we?).
  10. I never got an email, signed in through the tourdates feed to my frontgate account, but cannot buy 2 for Hartford, damnit. Not listed as sold out, but I guess I have to wait till friday... grrr
  11. I have to agree with Marc W about the quality of the new Buzzcocks, but both of these groups gave me some of the best shows of the last decade (being 34 I just missed out on both while coming of age in music), and really, the only reason I was going to post was to mention that Burma might be the most successful reunion that has happened in music, not in monetary or fan-based success but the quality of work they've put out this decade at least matches their past. Dino's reunion albums are good, but are nothing compared to what Burma has pulled on with Obliterati and SSL these last few years.
  12. I haven't followed up, but wasn't there talk of them doing a record club release with Beck on Skip Spence's Oar? Did I imagine that, I don't think so. It could be gloriously freaky enough for the group, and if they wanted to, a lot of those songs could be reimagined to incorporate some noise and krautrock and such things. I hope it happens.
  13. Just wanted to drop a quick line in here, kung fu finally emailed me back in response to the issue. Not only do they have no problem exchanging the items that were in err, but I was sent a paid shipping label and was told i'll be given an additional wilco item in apology for the screwup with the order. In this day and age, it's seems to be becoming rarer and rarer to see a pretty big online company go above and beyond for customers.
  14. This made me sit on wikipedia for a half hour looking at the songs available for both games (and sequels and sequels) since i've never played them (yet is considering the beatles one for me and my son), and noticed that the next guitar hero is going to have kurt cobain and johnny cash as characters in it (which is disgusting in so many ways to me, but whatever) and thought it would be perfect to have tracks from the drunken '96 irvine plaza show come after johnny cash in the game. Casino Queen would be perfect.
  15. My wife did this for a friend of hers a few months back before (the album) came out, who had some pretty horrible taste in music (until Lowell this year, the last 3 concerts she had been to were... Journey, eek!) and I think she did a decent job (though it would have been a bit noisier per my favorite wilco). I know she's bought 4 wilco discs since getting these, so i think making 2 cds to spread the word was worth it. And yes, I know there's some non-wilco material, but it works for the collections CD1: The Late Greats Passenger Side California Stars I'm The Man Who Loves You (Was I) In Y
