  1. I bought in on vinyl after seeing him open for Against Me last month.
  2. It just doesn't matter ... it just doesn't matter ... it just doesn't matter ... These approaches to getting out the vote were used quite effectively by Karl Rove and the Bush administration in 2000 and 2004. McCain, not so much.
  3. Given that a grand portion of the 35% will be eliminated through deductions and 20% disappears this year due to the economy, and most other years through claimed losses, that is about what Joe 6-pack pay, so that's fair.
  4. Obama is not suggesting this. He merely wants to rollback the tax benefit given to those earning $250K-plus back to what it was originally. As far as the "plenty of programs" and blaming it on "immigrants" I'd say you've been inhaling too many of those sound bytes. Programs are not adequate, nor are they effective nor uniform. Economies of scale would be the best approach. Again, these broad brush stereotypes of welfare mothers and illegal immigrants (who advance themselves by working two and three jobs, doing things most people feel too demeaning) is a grand excuse to do absolutely nothing.
  5. Are you question specific use of tax dollars or merely continuing the fallacy that tax dollars = waste. Certainly, both candidates have said they'll cut unnecessary spending. After an extra $9 trillion in debt, the party currently in the high office hasn't shown they're the answer to federal spending.
  6. Or are you saying that your extra effort, because it resulted in more scratch, is worth more than someone who works hard (harder, longer more physicially), but due to his position in life -- through no fault of his own -- he can not expect to benefit from his attempts to provide for his family?
  7. Well and pro-lifers also want small government so that a woman who must raise a child borne from abuse or poverty has no where to turn for any sort of help. Because it was her choice and they want to protect her from being a welfare mother. But they will chastise her for having a child out of wedlock. You'd never see that happen among the righ ... ooh...
  8. I'm glad you brought this up, because if the Republicans and the choice of the "religious right" were actually polar opposite from Obama on this issue, why couldn't they accomplish anything against abortion in the six years they controlled the three branches of federal government? And like the "redistribute the wealth" your characterizaton is typical hyberbole that detracts from debate of the real issues.
  9. I think it wasn't just the religious fundamentalists, I think it was Rove's ability to harness it. Everything I've read and seen about McCain's approach in the 11th hour has more to do with race than faith. He and his campaign manager have said their focus is non-college-educated white males, and "walmart women." That doesn't say faith; that says rednecks who can be scared to vote against a black president. True to his record as a pilot, McCain has morally crashed and burned in taking the low flight path to the highest office.
  10. While I realize some of this is standard faire, I'm watching/listening to the live feed of the Obama rally here in Jax, and as they're waiting for Obama to take the stage, they just followed up Sam & Dave's "Hold On, I'm Coming" with the Staple Singers' "I'll Take You There." 11. The *very* conservative Florida Times-Union (Jacksonville's only daily newspaper) had no coverage on the election on its front page (oh, by the way, Obama is having a rally this morning in Jacksonville at the colliseum with about 20K expected) is a scare headline "No police at polling places. In a county where 27K black votes "disappeared" in 2000, the Times-Union warns black voters there will be no one at the polls to help them, and reminds the uneducated whites that McCain is targeting in swing states to come down and stir up some trouble. "... at long last? Have you left no sense of dec
  12. You joke about this, but sure enough, early Saturday afternoon Fox News had a report about illegal aliens voting in this election. And you know who they're voting for, of course ....
  13. Well there are a grand number of elected government officials -- many from her own party -- that find her addition to the ticket criminal. And they're not surpressing their comments about it.
  14. Very cool news, Obama and Michelle are going to have a late rally Monday night here in Jacksonville, FL. He'll open Nov. 4 here, end it in Chicago. It all ties together nicely ...
  15. Where's the Via Chicago exclusive song? Where is the love?
  16. I think this is kind of pie in the sky. What sort of components are you talking about? You know the wind energy components are imported? At some point we're going to have to realize nuclear energy is our best and quickest way out of the energy quagmire. I like what Obama has is offering. Talk about jobs, a more efficient health care system -- aimed at preventive efforts, organized data, able to treat basic care in a systematic and productive method. This is could be one of his earliest and more significant contributions. I think this is about as possible as Bush's faith-based initiat
