I think this is the most common knock for *any* GM. Do you realize the average success rate for 1st-round picks? The draft is a gamble enough, but the greatest dichotomy of hit/miss is in the first round. Throw in the fact that franchise pics come to the teams who sucked the most with a culture of losing, poising a talented pick for failure. Top QB picks behind paper offensive lines. WR with no one to throw to them. DBs forced to get up to speed with the pass-happy NFL. I know there are studies, but if a GM hit on one out of five 1st round picks, they'd be doing pretty solid. I can see your

You have a lot of copies of Catcher in the Rye lying around?

Maybe it's something you said. Or the way you said it ...

Does this belong to someone here on VC?

Bob Uecker has done it mulitple times (though I don't think anyone ever heard him through all the boos). that would explain the steroid reference in "Ashes of American Flags" DVD. -

You're already salivating over the prospect of Tim Tebow (unless he gets injured this year -- that would be one way to disprove the existence of a god).

Some very nice choices here, especially Sailin Shoes (until Teenage Nervous Breakdown). Astral Weeks to me is more of a pensive mood ... not comfort, but laid back and sort of melencholy.

Automatically, I'd pull out "Automatic for the People." For extra comfort, the last three songs.

It certainly could have been handled better. Whomever the guy is as starting QB coming in, you've got to let the guy know where you stand with him. That said, I've heard so much childish stuff quoted to Cutler, and having experienced Bus Cook in action, who knows what the truth is at this point? McDaniels was in a tough enough position coming in trying to replace Shanahan. Cutler did much more to burn this bridge IMHO.

I'm in complete agreement here. The Bears gave up an awful lot and their cupboard is bare (no pun intended) to go after additional talent this year and the next few. Tribune's calling for them to go after Tory Holt now? That seems pretty foolish. Holt did well on turf but he's going to be a void when the winds blow off the lake.

He wasn't a washed up HOFer when GB traded a 1st round pick in 1992 to Atlanta acquire Favre. Comparing like for like, a 2nd-year QB (w/no playing experience) vs. a 3rd-year QB for 2 1st round picks and add'l pick and QB.
-
Wait, if we're going by past deals, if Green Bay traded one first-round pick for Favre, that would mean Cutler will have to be more than twice as good as Favre.

Should Wilco call it quits?

No, but I just had this vision of Tweedy and the surviving members of Wilco in 20 years hawking a reunion video during PBS pledge week. Did it work for you? Sobeit. -

But isn't there a way to enjoy Radiohead on your terms?!?

I'm not ready to do that yet. It kind of smacks of the Packer's Hadl trade. Two firsts and a QB who was your starter last year is awfully steep. And there's still the question of who he's going to throw to. As a Packer fan, I really like this trade because it does make the Bears better and can revive the greatest NFL rivalry -- Packers-Bears.

There are others ... and EIU alums as well ...

Wilco fans announce their love for Pat Sansone

I just like the diversity. And I like the fact that Tweedy and his cohorts -- and those good enough to wrestle the technology available -- have made it possible to intimately relive each aspect of the band's evolution. -

Wow, don't candy-coat it, tell us how you really feel? Seriously, you can pooh-pooh the HOF all you want, but it is a very worthwhile tourist trap. I went a few years ago, while they had a whole floor devoted to Dylan's early days and influences. Great videos and films, including a 40-minute tribute to all the inductee -- most of the films are shown Woodstock-fashion with 3 screens. i had to be dragged out by my kids at the end of the day.
