The Ashes audio tracks have SICK sound quality
Central Scrutinizer replied to Clint09eastwood's topic in Just A Fan
I mean no offense to the poster because he didn't invent the phrase. But I find the use of the phrase offensive, whether it's used on a message board or in informal conversation. It doesn't provide a unique definition nor expound on a existing word. It's just a noise. -
That requires $20 in the slot instead of 25

I've listened to it a number of times. I don't hate it, I just don't hear anything worth the fuss. I think whenever I hear overwhelming praise about "getting it" I give a knowing glance to who's rustling behind the curtain.

You have to insert the DVD and register through wilcoworld.net. The audio files from the film are available whenever, the concert has a deadline of April 28? -

"Classic" albums you just don't get
Central Scrutinizer replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
I have to agree here. And in notice of your avatar change ... -
I remember reading that thread now. I was curious about the specifics of where/when/how it was available, but thanks for the link to that thread. Very cool. And further fuel for my jealousy of those who've participated in the living room shows

"Classic" albums you just don't get
Central Scrutinizer replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
There are a number of great comments and viewpoints on this thread. Thanks for sharing, but I think ultimately it comes down to how you experience it. Your musical tastes are built and honed, but they're still viewed through experience of the here and now, and filtered through your emotions or frame of reference. Some "classic" albums lose their perception as such over time. Removed from the time or popularity of a genre and sub-genre, they're striipped of their relelvance and the music doesn't stand on its own. Great is the rediscovered classic, whose depth, message, recording technique, or o -
A "you had to be there" opening: "Someones got it in for me, theyre planting stories in the press" Every cheap hood strikes a bargain with the world And ends up making payments on a sofa or a girl

I think KTV is definitely a flatter mix, but they may be just the engineering for a variety of audio applications. I would venture these are mixed for sound quality period. As for the 9:30 concert I think the version of On and On and On is better and better and better than the SBS track. The vocal harmonies add a whole 'nother layer that isn't there in the studio version. BTW, no offense to the original poster personally, but the current popular use of "sick" is making me ill. I would rank it up there with phrases NOT to be used like "loves me some." -
Where *did* they leak SBS online? Was it in Roadcase? The Records section? Did they just pop it online, or did they give wilcoworld registrants a heads up?

That part could only be described as ... creepy.

I'm on both sides of this. I *finally* got my DVD Monday. It came with other stuff. It took longer than I expected and I'm not happy about it. However, it *is* a big company, and as such, they can offer pretty decent deals. I pre-ordered during Music Today's spring sale and got two free posters, the five Residency posters for $75 total, some vinyl and a cheap T shirt plus free shipping. I wish there was a decent independent record store (which is pathetic to say in a 1-million-plus metropolitan area).

No Wilco at the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame
Central Scrutinizer replied to Sparky speaks's topic in Just A Fan
Living about 30 miles from the "National Tragedy Museum" and "Fountain of Youth" in St. Augustine, I would say there are worse things to create a museum over. A lot of what's on display are legitimate "artyfacts" and nuggets. -
There appears to be a spammer in the works.

I couldn't disagree more. I grant that the induction process reeks and is $ driven -- just like popular music itself -- but there is enough to keep anyone engrossed for a day. They swap in/out displays to keep things fresh. On my visit, the had a floor devoted to Dylan's early years and influences that was deep and fascinating. -

Obviously they just can't keep them on the shelves. When I browsed through the shop there, I think they emphasize the catalogs of inductees, and the usual chart-toppers (it's an FYE chain store, afterall). -
(Amazon's blurb) A true American original is brought to life in this rich and lively portrait of Pete Seeger, who, with his musical grace and inextinguishable passion for social justice, transformed folk singing into a high form of peaceful protest in the second half of the twentieth century. Drawing on his extensive talks with Seeger, New Yorker writer Alec Wilkinson lets us experience the man

I ordered mine 3-18 and it's *supposed* to get her Monday. It is annoying. I'm sorry 1) that people are having some negative responses about the DVD, 2) that I read them before I watched it myself and 3) I didn't watch it before I read it because they wouldn't send me my DVD when they said it would. And I guess I shouldn't have read the comments. Hopefully I'll get over the surlies before I watch it.
