But, being "the most interesting man in the world," would be bother?
-
Earning money for listening to music, getting free music, access to concerts. In 2009 dollars you'd be way ahead of the median.

I can vouch for what he says ... It is pathetic. Seriously, I saw it too.
-
Hey, isn't your avatar the guy in the Dos Equis ads?
-
I thought someone suggested the "report" button. That screams VC.

I was disappointed about them in concert, even at 16. I remember the songs being pretty much note for note performances. The build up to Long Time was pretty cool, but I wasn't wowed. EDIT: Sounds like you had a pretty sweet gig.

That's what always struck me about him. Classic Rock radio in the late 80s just killed the band for me. On the Cheap Trick comment, that band was/is Rick Nielsen's head, shoulders and fuzzy sweater above Boston.
-
Yeah? Like what isn't unbalanced around here?
-
I'm embarrassed to say Boston was my first concert (at the *then* Rosemont Horizon). But I'm better now.
-
d'oh!! A(M) + B/T(ST) Now it's balanced. Thanks prof!

Wait ... maybe it is ... A(M) + B/T(ST)

I've watched them too, and they're there, providing layers, but I think it still fills the background with only snippets and small colorings coming to the surface. A lot of replaying what's "there" in previous songs. On another note, In listening to past recordings (particularly live) I am impressed by the impact Leroy Bach had, and how he added an "emotional" element to the music. I wouldn't pooh-pooh Mikael and Pat's playing, but there is a noticable difference in style and range in what Bach did bach then.

Well put.

I appreciate your response and I ramble on a few thoughts, using your comments as an outline. Feel free to ignore if I'm beating a dead horse. I assumed you meant Pat, but wanted to make sure. Frankly, I don't see a huge influence from Pat at all, and I agree, there is a void in emotion from the keyboards that's been missing since Egan. Not necessarily better or worse, but different. Performance-wise, Pat strikes me as more form over substance live. I have not listened to a lot of Pat's stuff outside of the band so I can't see a common thread of his performance, but I don't see him as a rudd

Do you mean Pat or Nels? Because a good portion of the complaints in the previous thread (and others for a good period of time) revolve around Nels and his "shredding" or having an obligatory solo in every Wilco song. Unless either of us set through the creative process, listened to every track and every take, we don't honestly know what Pat or Nels or any one member's influence on the overall project -- save for Jeff Tweedy. But even with Tweedy, he's the prism through which we see this band -- however the final product gets recorded, mixed, edited, cut, overdubbed etc. I think any fears abou

I'm afraid how my beard would look if it grew out. Therefore beards suck.

An opinion on something before you've even heard it? That suggestion surprises me coming from you, based on comments you've made to others in other threads. Based on what? That would need clarification/explanation. What specifically do you fear? I'm assuming it would have to be based on what you've already heard, which means it's opinion on something else. I think whatever reasons why'd you'd "fear" an unreleased record would be interesting to hear. "Tell him what he's won, Don Pardo!"

I loved that album! That sounds like a ringing endorsement to me.

I don't know that I have an academic and analytical approach; I do think you can take a deeper look at why you gush or bitch and how that affects what you hear, or whether you're going to gush or bitch regardless of what you hear. There are lots of ways to discuss music. I think sometimes that can be the least of someone's intentions -- bored at work, frustrated about something, diislike someone on the board -- and use it as a springboard to stir things up. I'm not saying that's the case. I've benefited from unexpected insights on most people on this list regard of what I think, but I've also

Not at all. If you're violently opposed to something, I would like to hear how it grates, or why it doesn't appeal to you; but realize that it's not an argument, but that your perspective is based on how you've built your tastes, and perhaps your insight has more value than your thumbs up or thumbs down on a particular, artist, a particular song or a particular album.

I've lately grown new appreciation for the second disc of BT. I think this album, perhaps more than any other (with perhaps the exception of AGIB just by nature of the band's approach to the music there), provides the framework for what have become some of their greatest songs performed live. And I think the current lineup have added an interpretation of these songs which makes them stand better than the sum of the studio parts. On their summer tour last year, they did "Was I In Your Dreams" with the Total Pros that was just incredible. With ST and and YHF -- or even SBS -- they are largely re

There was a time when I would have grumbled that it was closer to 90 percent. But my mellowed response is that I can't be that harsh on something that made it's way through the recording, engineering, mixing and production process without someone along the way finding some intrinsic value in it. At some point, even the most unlistenable music had the intention of the "artist" of putting his skewed view of creativity to work. At some point it was a labor of love. If someone sought out to make commercial crap, or even a purposely tanked album, it was still weighed against a standard and was soug

I downloaded a few weeks ago, and I'm sorry to say I'm not impressed. I thought it was rather weak overall. -
Repeated for accuracy. Just be glad they didn't keep this title business going and release the concert film *after* the album. then it would be W(TF).
