  1. I can tell you they played it in Jacksonville, Aug. 7, 2008, and it was an excellent version. Clarinet from the Total Pros played behind it Dixieland style. There is/was a torrent out there for it -- by someone on the list here. I heartily recommend the concert and recording.
  2. I've seen that -- classic albums on VH1. Just fascinating stuff, they talk to many of the studio musicians. Just how layered the sound is, how the two of them were finishing each other's sentences, how they had this sound in their collective heads and were able to capture it. Funny stuff about picking through the 32 tracks to find some little nuance they added. Blows you away! Of course the Dan McDonald thing at the end reminds me of 40 year old Virgin I hear "Yah Mo B There" one more time, I'm going to "Yah Mo" burn this place to the ground.
  3. This one's for real, I already bought the dream. Got up this a.m. and completely forgot about buying tickets, but was looking for something to pop into my wife's van while I ran errands and picked up Steely Dan, Live in America. Said, "oops" ran to the computer about 1.5 hours after they went on sale The result: 7th row center. Abut $113 a seat but no ticketmaster fees!
  4. Of course you can throw the Esher demos in there and raise a whole 'nother issue about what to put in and what to leave out ..
  5. Wow, just got notice that they're playing in St. Augustine (closer) in June (earlier). The answer they reveal, life is unreal!
  6. Using semi-colons would have been too presumptuous.
  7. There are times, I'd wager, that tapers see Wilco fans like this ...
  8. "Are you really going out with Adolf?"
  9. Does Auerbach light up a cigar when he finishes an album?
  10. I had talked myself into it, until I saw they're playing on a deadline day at work. Buggers!
  11. And other things caught on film ...
  12. If the songs that they're most likely to play show up as the most requested song, it would appear Jeff knows his audience pretty well. I would agree with your assumption, but the fact that a request service is open to anyone throws protocol out the window. Wilco definitely has a "typical festival setlist" and a "typical indoor venue setlist." But the same people who know what to request also know that, so I'm preaching to the choir.
  13. Tickets for Steely Dan are going on sale tomorrow for Orlando. I know they've played some small gigs up in New York and near Woodstock, I'm wondering whether they remain a vibrant live show, or whether it's simply a nostalgia trip. Can anyone offer and input -- have you seen them lately?
  14. John Henry was a clunker. Mink Car was a decent rebound. Else was solid enough. I was actually making a joke, because I've love the response of some people over the years to hearing it, and yet there will be hooks from a first listen that stay with you. The things you find yourself singing from one of their albums invites a butterfly net. From a creative standpoint, I just admire what they've done over the years. The dial-a-song, I even admire their foray into educational music and videos for the kids. They did a Friday night family video podcast that I recommend to anyone with kids. They
  15. My first concert, I *loaded* the requests. I mean to the point where I figured out how many votes it took to move a song from 6th to 4th on the list -- I know anal. But Jeff (whether because of the requests or because he intended to play them anyway) played seven of the 10 and followed with the other 3 at the next concert. I can't tell you how special and privileged to have someone make those sort of allowances for a fan(s). From now on, Jeff, play what you want!
  16. I can't imagine someone not "getting" They Might Be Giants. I listened to the Band for years before I actually listened to "The Band" in album format. Every song is a nugget. But assembled in one unit ... wow.
  17. Reporter: Are you a mod or a rocker? Ringo: Um, no. I'm a mocker.
  18. Quick, divide and conquer by starting four other threads about the same thing!
  19. I'm thankful regardless. He's obviously better than what they've got now.
  20. If he was Jay Bennett, he could tell you every instrument and where and when he played it.
