for some reason I remembered him today after not thinking about him for a long long time. I know one record, i think it's called "The Last 100 Years" (it's excellent). Anyone know of anything else he did?

I still see this song as completing the "worst Wilco trilogy" of Country Disappeared>Solitaire>I'll Fight
whatever.

no one ever comes to Poland. sob.

nothing new here but it's up on the bbc too.

Thanks for the music Jay. You had a major hand in creating some of the music which i treasure most. I hope you find rest.

I think this was meant to highlight specific moments in songs, which is different than the other threads.
yes, and serve a listening companion- helps us hear things that we might have missed otherwise. Thanks for the tips on Glenn's drumming in Everlasting Everything and One Wing. this is the kind of stuff i was hoping for. And yes, hopefully on formats better than mp3 it will be possible to hear more.
more positives:
the low level tremolo on the rhythm guitar in Country Disappeared
the harmonies at 3:19 in Country Disappeared

The idea is to keep it specific so we can hear things we might not otherwise hear. Originally i thought to stick to the positives, but as one man's treasure, is another man's trash, i figured what the hell. The idea is not do discuss the general direction of the band which has already been done ad nauseum elsewhere.
My own personal first impression list:
positive:
1. the single bending note on the fuzz guitar over the chord progression in (The Song)
2. the right channel electric rhythm guitar on the 2 and 4 in "I'll Fight"
3. the ending to "Everlasting Everything."
negative:
1. i haven't heard any bits by Glenn that blow me away, like the drum beat that comes in at :59 in IATTBYH which is freaking phenomenal. which isn't to say it's not in here somewhere, but i haven't heard it yet. solid drumming, of course, but still looking for that unusual, creative bit that i haven't heard. help. where is it?
2. Nels' guitar which comes in at 2:30 in "You Never Know" Think he overdoes it on the whammy bar, and it grates.
3. the pedal steel that i was expecting based on the Rolling Stone article- it's not Wilco's fault that those dufuses (or is the plural dufi?) don't know a pedal from a lap.

We have to throw in Olson's solo work(and the new Olson/Louris album) as well as the Louris solo album in this to be fair, and I will rank them all:
1. Hollywood Town Hall
2. Tomorrow The Green Grass
3. Blue Earth
4. My Own Jo Ellen
5. The Salvation Blues
6. December's Child
7. The Original Harmony Ridge Creek Dippers
8. Pacific Coast Rambler
9. Ready for the Flood
10. Bunkhouse
11.. Rainy Day Music
12.. Zola and the Tulip Tree
13. The Sound of Lies
14. Political Manifest
16. Smile
17. Vagabonds
18. Mystic Theater
I prefer the Mark stuff to but you're being awful harsh on Gary here.

I don't dislike it it- in fact i think it's one of the more solid moments there. They have left the poppy sheen off, and seems more substantive.

a bold post jracette, and i agree with many points, but on your harsh condemnation i had to go back and listen to sunny feeling again and pay a bit more attention to the lap. And though i would wager that it might be one of those nels overdubs after the boys returned from NZ and might be a bit pasted on, it's not offensive to my ears.

they're nice pieces of technology. i've used mine a little, but just never really found the setting i liked, and my setup sounds pretty good without it. hell, i might use it if i sat down with it tomorrow. ....which i will do.
let me know what results it yields...experimenting is fun.

This record reminds me of Buck Witherspoon.

I've poked around trying to find a place to listen to this thing, or at least parts of it, but to no avail. Any help?

can someone explain the benefits of an eq pedal? I've never had one.
I got it in order to sculpt a pretty specific tone. In my case it was by boosting the mids way up and taking everything else WAY down- it created the sound i was looking for. This setting was not a general purpose setting, though.
Another use i put it to is when switching between lead and rhythm. when doing this i actually lower certain frequencies to use as kind of an anti-boost, eliminating the muddiness of lower frequencies, so that when you turn it off (to solo) the fullness of the guitar hits you. This is kind of "backwards" to how it's often done, though, so actually there's quite a bit you can do if you play around.

Onan, no offence but why are you named after the biblical dude who coined the term onanism?
I'm not sure but I have a couple of theories:
1. I live in a remote location where almost the only people who have even heard of wilco are the ones who I have told, and have little to no chance of seeing Wilco live, so all I can do is live vicariously through places like youtube and via chicago. It, like masturbation, is a poor substitute for the real thing.
2. To a certain degree all forum activity in this so-called age of communication is masturbatory activity in that you are spending time with/by yourself pretending/imagining you are not alone.
3. In reference to a song or mine called Onan's Blues, which is either about dirty phone calls or unconditional love depending on which way you look at it. Yu can listen to it (heck, even download it) here: Well Hid Bones
4. Obvious reasons. (Please note that the good Lord has not yet smitten me dead)
Hope this helps.

Recently i picked up an Artec SE EQ8. It's my first eq, so i don't have a point of reference, but it seems to be doing what eq is designed to do, and is pretty quiet. It's korean made and about 40 bucks on ebay, which isn't a bad price considering it's true bypass (which the Boss isn't) probably not pro quality but can't go wrong for the price.

the idea occurred to me it would be fun to catalog all the gear there but then i had a look and figured it would take the next three weeks of my life, and i would fall into fits of paunful gear envy, so i reconsidered. and most of the headstocks are facing away anyway.

Kudos to Nudie for putting it into perspective. Thanks Wilco.

when I graduated from college I briefly moved back in with my parents. Just before leaving, a friend's cat had kittens and I took one, a final souvenir of the good ole' foggy days. Anyway, the kitten took to suckling my little sister's extremely anti-social shih-tzu. It was quite bizarre.
I realize this has nothing to do with Wilco, or the Beatles. But it does link cats and dogs.

I'll invite Max Johnston.
eq pedals

i'm not savvy enough to give you anything precise, but they are all pretty close in range. 3 guitarists, a pedal steel and a banjo gives you 5 instruments in very close range, and it would be very difficult (i would think) to avoid overkill. too bad one of you three guitarists doesn't play bass and another mandolin. seems that would be more effective than an eq pedal.
