  1. What I see when I read this sentence is some woman shrieking and throwing her shoes at her ex at a restaurant, when she runs into him on a date with someone else. Do you want to date that shrieking, shoe-throwing woman?

Well, if i wasn't married already, I might.

Jay could benefit by winning the lawsuit, and getting enough money to replace his hip. Jay could benefit by an out of court settlement which gives him enough money to replace his hip. Jay could Bennetfit, excuse me benefit, from losing the case by getting some free publicity which in turns sells a few more records than he otherwise would have, thus covering a little more of his surgery than he otherwise would have been able to.

  2. I fail to check VC for one day and i come back to this....20 pages of it....and I read them all.

Actually, I think Wilco and Jay will both benefit from this in terms or publicity, no matter who wins the legal case. I think the real losers are all of us, as thins pretty much shuts the door on there ever being a reunion of sorts. Not that the door wasn't shut already, but this helps to spell it out a little more clearly.

  3. It's not that I don't think there are weaker songs ("Forget the Flowers", "Someone Else's Song", "Red-Eyed and Blue") but I just couldn't imagine leaving any off. At this point Being There is too etched into my brain to talk about editing it.

My biggest qualm is actually that they sidelined "Blasting Fonda", which is one of my favorite songs from that era.

those are some of the strongest songs on the record.

how come i haven't heard blasting fonda? anyone got a link?

  4. Dear Wilco,

Please leak this record. The suspense is killing us. Or, to be more precise, the suspense is about to make us, your loyal fans, start killing each other. If we did that, there would be no one left to buy you cds and dvds and books and vws, and your careers would undoubtedly come to a grinding halt.

We know you promise that you will love us, but we need that love now. You need that love now. What the world needs now is love (sweet love)

    Love,

    Me

  5. This was posted on Wilcoworld. The last bit makes me think (hope) it will be leaking soon:

    Greetings all,

Wilco wrap up their first tour of '09 in New Orleans on Saturday night and, man, it's good to have the band up on stage again. But it's just the beginning. Most of Wilco's summer schedule is up on the site now and tickets go on sale tomorrow (Friday) for the following gigs: Cincinnati Aronoff Center, Las Vegas The Joint, LA Wiltern (x2), Morrison CO Red Rocks, Vienna VA Wolftrap, Wilmington DE Frawley Stadium, Brooklyn NY Keyspan Park, and Buffalo NY Art Park. Go to http://wilcoworld.net/tours/ for more information.

Already onsale: Oklahoma City Brickyard, El Paso Chavez Theatre, Tucson Centennial Hall, Berkeley Greek, Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena, Jacksonville OR Britt Pavilion, Lowell MA Lelacheur Park, and Wappingers Falls NY Dutchess County Stadium.

Special note: Wolftrap, Wilmington, Lowell, Portland, Wappingers Falls and Buffalo feature support from Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band.

Before summer, we've got Spain and Portugal to look forward to, kicking off May 23 in Tenerife. Some of those shows are already sold out... but there are tickets available in many others. Info at http://wilcoworld.net/tours/

Lastly, thanks for making the Ashes of American Flags DVD #1 on the Billboard Music DVD chart (by a long shot). Nice work. The new studio record is still slated for June 30. Can't wait for you to hear it (and we're pretty sure it'll be before then).

more news soon, as it develops.

  6. Several sources say that a lot of the basic tracks for the new record were recorded in NZ during/after the 7 Worlds Collide project. I believe the attending Wilco members were Jeff, John, Glen and Pat. Do you think that this means that Pat will have a bigger role on the new record?

  7. No...that was a song about DREAMING ABOUT killing someone. This is a song about having actually killed someone.

I guess Tweedy's characters are more proactive than they used to be.

"dreamed about killing you again last night..." assuming again refers to the dream and not to the killing.

Anyway, I wish it would leak already. Or be June. I can't wait in spite of myself.

  8. With Dylan and Neil Young both putting out new records in the coming weeks I was wondering about people's views on who of the 'big boys' are still cutting it in 2009. I love Neil Young, but I don't think he has put out a truly great album for many, many years (Sleeps with Angels..or possibly Silver and Gold). Dylan's last three efforts have been significantly better (Time Out of Mind is great) but do they stack up against his greatest efforts of the sixties and seventies?.

The only guy I think that is really putting out top quality albums that are still creative, vital and comparable to anything in his past is Tom Waits. I'm not sure if anyone here would put Tom in the same league as the other two but he has been on a major run of classic albums for some time. And the recent albums are still relevant and not just a major artist 'winding down'. Toms still got something to say, perhaps more so than ever. 'Real Gone' was a pretty radical album.

Van Morrison is an interesting one. He could put out 'good' albums in his sleep. However, whilst recent efforts have be fine and enjoyable, they have been far from the classic efforts of the seventies (and eighties).

A special shout out to Nick Cave as well who seems to be aspiring to the aforementioned artists and is really on a creative hot streak as well at the moment.

I suppose the questions is two-fold. Who do you consider the most important artists of the past fifty years (what about Bowie? Springsteen?).....and who is still on the top of his game.

I think Tom Waits does deserve to be put in the same tier as Neil and Bob, but for different reasons. I also think Bob's stuff is "relevant" (whatever that means) although it doesn't stand up to his old stuff. But hey, let's be honest what possibly could?

Neil, hmmm have to think on that one. Last new one i herd from him was Greenville(or was it greendale? see, i can't even remember the name!). Enjoyable, but not one i come back to.

  9. Forgive me for the shameless self-promotion, but I will see no financial reward from this:

Well folks, my band Gasoline is in the frustrating position of having the record done, but not being in a position to get it printed up proper. It has been sitting on the shelf for a few months now doing nothing, so the decision has been taken to set it free.

That's right, you can download it here:

Oh, and as far as the cover art is concerned, I'm in the process of finding out why last.fm won't let me upload it, so keep checking back. Or drop us a line if you want it all, not just the front cover.

    Happy listening.
