Ah yes read about that if you go let me know how it was ☺️

I did go to the Pavement Museum and will post about it here because others may be interested. If you want to know more, you know how to find me.  :)

There were some very interesting artifacts, ranging from Malkmus’s original notebooks (I took a pic of the page with a bit of Summer Babe), a page of unused checks from the Pavement, Inc. checkbook, passport photos of all 4 band members, to gold records, an MTV award, and hours of video.  There were tons of posters, ads, fanzines, t-shirts, artwork.

I stayed about half an hour.  I could have stayed for hours and watched a lot of video, but they were setting up to interview someone I’m sure I should have recognized (and who I think thought I recognized him when I said hello, but I was just being friendly LOL), and they were asking people to clear out of that area for half an hour.  I’m sure I can see most of that video on YouTube, and I really wanted to be home before rush hour.

  2. Ok, this is probably one of the most outrageous things I’ve seen yet:  Almost Queen, a Queen tribute band, is charging $100 + $25 fees = $125 for the best seats at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ.  A tribute band!  I’ve seen them and they’re very good, but holy cow, that price for a tribute band???!!!!  Maybe some insane people will pay that much for a tribute band.

I'm going to wait to watch it home. I've got a good enough sound system to enjoy it. The movies have gotten way too expensive since reopening after the pandemic.

    :o

Compared to what has happened to the price of concert tickets??  I am on the verge of being priced out of live music, but tomorrow I will see two movies at AMC for $5 each on Discount Tuesday.

From a couple of years ago (now) I loved Fontaines D.C.'s first album (practically all of it, which is very rare for me). Subsequent ones not so much.

I had never heard anything by this band until just now when I watched their performance on James Corden from the other night.  It was definitely interesting, and it’s always good to hear a new band that plays rock music.  I will check out their first album based on your recommendation.

Seeing Smithereens W Marshall Crenshaw and Max Weinberg 10 min from my house for free nice and easy show tonight 😏

Same. ;)  40 minutes from my house, but still free and no transportation hassles.

Transportation hassles/lack thereof has become an increasingly important deciding factor for me these days.

  6. In NJ, it hasn’t been outrageously hot, but it’s been outrageously dry.  Everything is dying.  We had a solid day of rain yesterday, but it was too late for a lot of plants.  My astilbe garden is dead.  It was fine until it wasn’t.  Everywhere you look, there are dead shrubs and trees.  I’ve never seen it this bad.

The Dizzy Heights show here was fantastic. Eddie Vedder joined Neil for at least a few songs. Unfortunately not many concert tapes get out. I snag them when I see them. The only 1 I got for the current tour was Glastonbury & that was a short set. It does have Neil's grandson, so points for that. I think Neil has done ok for being kind of a cult guy. I read some stuff about him buying up cool, old mansions in LA. Probably flipping them. Think he's got some serious real estate back home, too. Not a dumb move. I like Lindsay, too but you can kind of see why the strife in FM might've got old with the other members. I met Lindsay once & he was cool. Kind of a long story. You can tell he's operating on different plane of the universe, haha (polite).

The Dizzy Heights show here was also fantastic.  No special guests, but it was in a tiny venue (Le Poisson Rouge), and the entire thing was pure class.  It’s incredible to me that was 9 years ago, and was the last time I saw Neil!

I saw/heard the Glastonbury set and sorry but was not impressed with Neil’s grandson!  LOL. There comes a point where including everyone in the family gets to be ridiculous.  How old is Buddy?  7 or so?

PS: Crowded House have been selling well in the northwest regardless of the above. Neil has always done well around here going back to Split Enz days. There's a nice hard core following. I really hope they don't end up cancelling the tour.

I was talking with my local Finn fan friend today and we realized the last time Neil played  in the NYC area was 9 years ago, in support of Dizzy Heights.  (Not including Fleetwood Mac, which I did not attend, as I am solidly in Camp Lindsey.)

Crowded House have postponed their North American tour. Evidently Elroy Finn has hurt his back. Bummer!

That's two shows gone for me. I fully expect the show in Red Bank, NJ to be canceled due to low ticket sales. Shows in Ohio and Detroit have already been canceled. Last I looked a few weeks ago, those were selling poorly as well.

I'm sorry Elroy is injured, but color me just a little suspicious about the timing of this.

I saw Emma Swift (with Robyn Hitchcock) do her Bob Dylan thing last night.

    It was fantastic.

Her album of Dylan covers is very good, isn’t it?  I have to admit I didn’t expect it to be as good as it is.

  11. Today I was going to buy a $35 ticket to see Demetri Martin in September.  Went to check out and the total was $55.  That’s a 57% increase in the ticket price due to fees.  That may be a record, as far as what I’ve come across.  I cancelled the sale.  Sorry Demetri.

Thank you. I thought about going to the hospital a few times but gutted it out. This bout has me rethinking my concert strategy. I'll still go to a few shows but the bar is much higher now as to what I'll take a chance on. Except for RHCP, the summer is pretty clear. Things fire up in September. For instance, MMJ is playing soon & I'm going to skip it. I saw them in October & don't think they'll top that show given the venue they're playing soon.

Yikes, you thought about going to a hospital?  Sorry to hear.

I’ve been very successful at concerts wearing a KN95, although the last two I’ve been to (most recent was last night), I was one of only a small handful of people wearing any mask at all.  I felt like an idiot, but was undeterred.  I have my last show for a while on Sunday.  Cases are dropping around here.  I feel like I’m going to have to suck it up and just get it and get it over with in the near future, because I don’t think it’s going away.  I have a serious health condition, as I know you do, but I don’t think it will be possible to avoid it forever and simultaneously maintain normal human interactions.  Even if I keep wearing a mask in crowds, one of my friends or relatives is surely going to expose me to it eventually.  I no longer mask in small social groups, because it’s just no longer conducive to maintaining relationships or to developing new relationships.

I did a test this morning & it came back negative, yay. Still pretty weak but at least that hurdle is cleared.

Glad to hear!  I’ve been wondering how you’ve been doing, so I’m happy you checked in.  It sounds like it wasn’t an easy bout of it for you though.

I went to 2 shows last week (Mike Campbell & Bob Dylan, Mike was awesome & Dylan was middling Bob. I've seen him play better & seen him play worse). Woke up feeling really sick this morning. Took a home COVID test & sure enough, I've got it. Shocked I've lasted this long without getting it. Called my doc & she phoned in a prescription for Paxlovid to my pharmacy which I picked up no contact. Luckily I had stocked up on groceries as I was supposed to have a round of chemo on Tuesday. This blows my schedule all to hell but I feel like crap.

    So sorry to hear!

I have been to two very crowded standing room shows in the past two weeks, was one of about 5 people at each show wearing a KN95.  I honestly thought I would catch it anyway, but amazingly, I have not!

Good luck with the Paxlovid.  My doc said call him ASAP when I get Covid and he will prescribe Paxlovid for me as well.  And yes, at this point I know it’s when, not if.  I hope you don’t get Paxlovid rebound!
