Usually off pandora or Sirius XMU channel 35. I probably discovered Washed Out on Tame Impala’s channel! Glad you like it Washed out is one of my top favorites of last 10 years! 😌

Yes, I definitely picked up on the Tame Impala similarity, but it’s not too similar.  It is much more similar to a lot of what I call “chill out” music.

Hitting IL now, seen worse, but bad enough.

Another drawback with covid - no snow days for the kiddo's - they just set up zoom and close the schools. Loved snow days, growing up - bummer for them.

We still have snow days here in NJ. I feel bad for kids who no longer get them. :(

Here's a thread to post gifts you received or gave for the holidays this year that are Wilco-related or Wilco-adjacent. Flex away!

I'll start. Today one of my students gifted me a sealed box of Wilco-themed memo books, a set which I did not even know existed. From the Field Notes website: "This set was truly collaborative; we paired each member of Wilco with an exceptional artist, handed them all the same limited palette of colors, and let them improvise. This 'Wilco × Field Notes' Box Set is the result. The box contains six Memo Books reflecting the craft and talent of the artists and the passions and personalities of the musicians."

This looks lovely. You have an incredibly thoughtful student!

  4. I’m so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing.  I saw him as a solo act (+ band) some 30 years ago at the old Lone Star Café in NYC and it was a great show.  That was the only time I ever saw him live.  I have loved his music, both with and without The Monkees, for my entire life.

Thank you. I've been doing various cocktails for years. I have a really rare & aggressive version of rheumatoid arthritis & the chemo is in hope of slowing the progression some. Some work for awhile but the effectiveness goes away eventually. I'm at the end of the line pretty much of what is available at this point. This cocktail isn't pleasant but it's not the worst I've been on. I should be sort of ok by Monday. I'm just anxious for this year to end as it's been extra brutal on the health front. Next year isn't looking too good at this point but fingers crossed things improve. Although it's not typical, the RA is attacking my spine & I'll probably need some really major surgery in the not too distant future. We're trying a delaying tactic on that front, too. Appreciate the sentiment from you.

Really sorry to hear this.  I have become an autoimmune disease patient myself this year - not RA, and nowhere near as bad as what you are going through - but I can appreciate the frustration of treatments that may or may not work for a while, and lousy side effects.  Try to hang in there.  I’m sure it must be very difficult for you.

I've just read that part 2 has been green-lit, and he also wants to do a part 3 - being Dune Messiah.

Gorgeous film, and the soundtrack is great too. I'm already viewing it again, in small bits. I don't think I ever watched the entirety of Lynch's version, and I haven't read the book, but now that I understand the basics of the plot, I've got a copy reserved at the library.

Do go ahead and read the book(s).  I read three of them after seeing the Lynch version back in the day, and they helped a lot with understanding.  I’m glad I read them.

I watched this last night and thought it was great.  My only complaint is that they did not tell enough of the story, and now I have to wait years until the next installment is made.

Both the cast performances and the cinematography were spectacular!

    How did it go?

It was SO great!  So glad I went!  Very glad I was sitting in the sparsely filled balcony where most people adhered to the mask requirement.  Unlike down front up against the stage where it was packed and no one wore a mask.

I felt more like myself last night than I have for the better part of two years!

  9. Lindsey Buckingham, if I don’t chicken out of going.

This will be my first indoor concert since December 2019 (and only my second concert overall since then) if I do in fact end up going.  I bought this ticket back in June, when I expected things to be very different now.

  10. All is good and dry at my house here in NJ.  Never lost power (so far). But I am fortunate to live on a mountain.  Surrounding highways were closed last night due to flooding.  News reports are horrific.  I am very, very fortunate to live in the exact spot where I live.

  11. “Heaven has a paywall”

That was Jeff’s message to free subscribers today.

Sorry Jeff, you’ve been way too prolific (every day!), saying not very much of interest. The story about the red crystal heart was very moving, I will admit, but this list has mostly been clutter in my inbox.  Is it just me?

  12. I watched the live stream of this show as well.  It was well worth $20.  And at this point in my life, I am no longer willing to pay beaucoups of bucks in advance for any outdoor show (Queens, NY, in my case), because I can no longer physically withstand heat or rain.

My takeaway from last night’s Red Rocks show is that Nels Cline is one amazing musician and I’m not sure what Wilco would be without him.

Another nail in the heart of Via Chicago after the FaceBook Group  :-)

Seriously, could be very interesting, though as a UKer I will be on the freebie option as I think (as for The Tweedy Show) it will be US-centric for times and activities etc. I will appreciate getting some more of Jeff's humour (actually the thing that made me a 'fan' rather than just a music lover like with other band that gets my deep appreciation - which is actually a select few - I'm pretty picky). There was some humour in the TTS of course but due to timing I have only seen about half a dozen of those and actually found them a bit of a turn-off as it seemed more the Suzie Show - not a bad thing per se, just not hitting the sweet spot for me - no big deal either way.

    So, looking forward . . .

P.S. Speaking of humour, I've had Ronnie Barker in my brain today.

    F U N E X

    S V F X

Kudos to anyone (U.S.) who gets that.

It’s only another nail in the heart if everyone decides to leave here and pay Jeff $60/year instead.  I signed up for the freebie option too.  Life is becoming an endless series of subscriptions and I have enough of them already.

As for F U N E X, my uncle used to tell this joke endlessly when I was growing up (1960’s-1970’s).  He was born and raised in the U.S. in the early 20th century, so there must be a U.S. source of this joke as well.  I have never heard the name Ronnie Barker before, but looking at wikipedia, it appears he was not known in the U.S., and my uncle would have had no access to (or interest in) British media.

Yeah prices are high but venue is tiny and I hear they are giving almost all the money to the artist so they can get larger acts in a smaller club.

Do you like Richard Thompson he is playing Woodbridge High School for free June 23. I got some shows coming up September Ben Folds in Morristown Devo at Radio City things starting to line up 🙂

It’s nice they’re giving most of the money to the artist, but that doesn’t increase my concert budget.  $83 for Guided By Voices?  I laughed out loud at that one.  I doubt I’ll go there, although it does seem reasonably accessible for a place in Brooklyn.

I do like Richard Thompson. I’m guessing that show is outside?  We’ll see what the weather brings.  How did Woodbridge High School snag Richard Thompson??

And Joyce, have just as much fun seeing the quirky but brilliant Buckingham!

    Thanks, I will!

Lindsey is a life long fave of mine.  I worry this may be the last time he goes out.  Many of these artists are really getting up there in age now.

I’m all good! Hope to see you at a show soon?! Let me know what other shows you have lined up? Hope you’re well too?

I have nothing else other than rescheduled shows from 2020 that aren’t until Oct (Robyn Hitchcock in Montclair), Nov (Luna in Jersey City) and May (Hoodoo Gurus at Webster Hall).  These shows have all been rescheduled several times now!

I still have a couple that have been neither rescheduled nor cancelled! :realmad

The prices at the new venue in Brooklyn (where Jeff is playing) are absolutely insane.

Feel like I won the lottery scored a $75 ticket for Springsteen on Broadway! 🤓

Heh.  I feel the same after scoring a $75 ticket (total) for Lindsey Buckingham today,  Infinitely preferable to me than Springsteen!  YMMV.

Hope things are well with you, Craig! :)
