  1. Feb 25 & 26 are open dates between London and Montreal; Rochester, NY, where I live, happens to be right between the geographically. Does Wilco ever add dates, or is a tour pretty well set once it's announced?
  2. Don't do it! We took our kids, 7 and 9, and our neighbors brought theirs, same ages, to ArtPark back in July. It wasn't a disaster; in fact, there were some great moments, but in the end, it would have been much more fun as an adults night out. That said, it is profoundly gratifying to know that my kids are discerning enough at this age to love Wilco, which they do, and it is something they came about honestly, with no prodding from me except for the fact that they heard it while I was playing it. They discovered that they liked it all on their own. Good luck with your decision, I'm sure
  3. I plan to bring my family there around Christmas '10. I've travelled a bit in my day (never to CR, but to Ecuador and Venezuela) and it's time to get the kids, who will be 10 and 8, a bit out of their element. If I were to go there on my own it would be to go birdwatching, but we'll have to find other things to do with the kids. Shouldn't be too hard, they both love nature an dthe outdoors.
  4. I was lucky to have seen him for the first and only time a few weeks earlier in Canandaigua, NY (near Rochester), with Joe Cocker opening up. It was a great night of music. No surprise that Steve kicked axe, but I walked away with a new respect for Joe Cocker.
  5. Not sure if you're being sarcastic here, or not, but I think that this is one of the better songs on the album.
  6. I was initially not impressed; in fact, maybe even downright disappointed. However, after repeated listening, it has grown in stature for me. I think that the best cut on the CD is ‘Country Disappeared’. I suspect most won’t agree with me. On another thread, folks were putting together a song list to use to turn on the unwashed, and that one wasn’t on anyone’s list representing Wilco (The Album).
  7. Indeed, a Shining Sunbeam is a kind of hummingbird! I saw them when I was in Ecuador on a birdwatching trip in '97. I have to wonder if Tweedy has some fascination with birds. I've got a long way to go to become intimately familiar with the Wilco catalog, but some quick observations... A song called 'Hummingbird' A song called 'One Wing', with obviosu references to birds Sky Blue Sky CD cover with a flock of birds A Ghost is Born CD cover with an egg Are there more?
  8. 1. First Concert, when? Rush, Rochester, NY - Jan '80. This was a month after the tragedy in Cincinnati; I had to beg my parents to let me go. 2. First Concert you really wanted to go to and did? Rush - 1980 Wanted to see Peter Frampton on my birthday in Rochester, NY, 1976, but was only 11, so can't fault the parents for not letting me go. 3. Favorite Band? Bruce Springsteen 4. How Many Times have you seen them? 30 +/- 5. Worst concert you attended? Asia 6. Favorite? Talking Heads, Rochester, NY '83 7. Band you have seen the most? The Grateful Dead 8. How many times? Exactly 10
  9. Hi Everyone, I'm glad to have found a Wilco forum. I've lurked and posted for years on Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen, and Bob Dylan forums under the screen name Travellin' Slim, but I thought I'd change things up a bit here and go with Shining Sunbeam. Who can make the Wilco connection to my screen name? Slim
  10. First post here, and fairly much a Wilco neophyte compared to many of y'all, but discovering their music over the last year has been a great journey. I saw them in Rochester, NY, at the Auditorium Theater last December. Remarkable. Also saw them in Lewiston, NY, last Sunday. That was a great show, too, but it started off for us a bit sketchy because we brought our kids, ages 6 and 8. They pretty much demanded to go; in the end, it worked out fine, and I'm glad they have such great taste in music, but my view of the evening might be different of they stayed home.
