Some random notes:

The Gasometer is an architectural wonder, four HUGE old decommissioned brick storage tanks for natural gas that have been converted to offices, apartments, shops, and a concert hall.

Band seemed in high spirits. Jeff mentioned this was their first time in Vienna and praised the audience several times.

For Deeper Down, Jeff said, "We played that song just for you, because it has a harpsichord."

Before Heavy Metal Drummer: "We sometimes joke about all the Americans we see over here, but we know how difficult it is to travel this far, and we really do appreciate it, So this one goes out to Deanna and the Torres brothers." Ironically, Deanna was the same fan (from California) who had her camera personally confiscated by Tweedy at Dublin's Vicar Street in August 2009.

Another song was dedicated to Franz Schubert, because Glenn's ancestors are apparently buried in the same cemetery as the composer.

The people of Vienna are marvelous. So friendly and enthusiastic.

We're in Vienna now for tomorrow's show and then on to Prague for the finale next week. If anyone cares to meet up, leave a note here. I'll have on a green Wilco tour shirt in either case. And we'll be up front on Pat's side.

Well, holy shit, nobody mentioned Jerry Garcia/Bob Weir yet? Sacrilege. Oh, I guess someone sorta did. But "Bob and Jerry"? Pffft.

Ryan Adams/Neal Casal have produced some pretty sublime moments.

And last but definitely not least, Joe Strummer/Mick Jones, who basically melted my face off when I saw them. RIP Joe.

the torrent of the show that just appeared...

Man, that might be a new speed record. How many hours after the show was that?

The Prague show is now (finally!) listed at Wilcoworld. I sent a note to Wilco HQ and they said that adding the listing had just slipped by. Done now, and my request is in.

Who else is going?

I captured and split the Dublin webcast long ago and can share with anyone who wants. We were there, directly in front of stage, so it's very near and dear to us. (Can actually hear my voice on the recording.)

Audacity is cross platform and pretty easy to use for splitting. I recorded on a Mac using Audio Hijack Pro (Rogue Amoeba Software). $32. I'll do the track splitting with Audacity on a PC.

No need to save this in FLAC. Although it sounds very good, it's a compressed stream, so MP3 is fine.

Does anyone know of a decent torrent site for e-books?

As someone who makes a living writing books (and whose books are regularly pirated on torrent sites and on eBay) that question makes me cringe.

Amazon's Jeff Bezos has done an excellent job of pushing prices for e-books down to reasonable levels, and Apple is trying to undercut that and push them back up through its new iBooks store. FWIW, I am told that the Kindle app for the iPad is all kinds of awesome. The iPhone app is also pretty nice, but obviously not the same, size-wise.

Isn't Eat a Peach about 75% live recordings from the Fillmore East? I'm not complaining, mind you, but it's only about a quarter of a studio album.

Strangely enough, we were at both Dublin shows in August (Vicar Street) and then at the Iowa City show in October. Audience was perfectly behaved, exceptional even, at all three shows.

its a comment like yours that has me a bit more settled. If long-time-listeners are saying the scene is wacky and borderline obnoxious, then I can forget about getting all perturbed by it. Rather, I'll see and hear what happens, and what ever sticks will be it's own experience.

Don't overestimate it. The last five shows we've been to have been stellar from a crowd experience. (Three US states and two overseas destinations.) This is one reason I like festival seating. If someone's an ass, you move.

I could do without it, too. Unless I heard it wrong, the robot intro to Wilco's show states that yelling song requests is among the things that are allowed during the show, so it'll probably start happening more.
