  1. I'm in complete agreement as well. After the relatively lackluster Winterlude shows and static setlists of this tour, my expectations were low (which probably helped). The energy coming off that stage was just massive, though. Credit goes at least partially to Eaux Claires' incredible sound system. I've been to a ton of festivals over the years and there's nothing that has come close. I was so impressed with Cry All Day, I felt like they finally found the perfect dynamic for it. All the noisy jammy tunes were off the charts. If the strategy of playing all the same songs all tour was solely to
  2. I appreciate the feedback! I know that in the 60s and at least early 70s people were all expected to be seated. I've heard several Zeppelin shows in which Plant admonishes the crowd for not sitting. Which blows my mind. I started going to shows in the early 90s, and I don't recall ever sitting, big show or small, until the past decade or so, increasingly. Excepting certain obviously low-key and/or geared-towards-older-folks shows. Maybe it's cyclical. I imagine if I tried hard enough I could think of a few... I don't want to be the entitled asshole, though. I'd go for the GA pit downstairs

  4. I missed out on the 2008 residency (although I've listened to the shows), so this is just conjecture I suppose. But I feel like the Winterlude was less gimmicky and more of a natural run of shows, less constrained by a preordained set of rules or whatever. Also very different in intent from night to night, more of a dynamic swing throughout, or narrative arc, if you will. It was also incredibly cool that the setlists were so varied and exciting throughout the 20th anniversary thing in general. Having caught only the Milwaukee show (Winterprelude?) and the 12/11 show, I personally have never
  5. Hmmm. I guess I'm sort of in a rock/hard place situation with the Wilco crowd. Sound is so perfect in the middle of the balcony, but no dancing seems to be the consensus. Downstairs it's like if there's any quiet bits the whole room starts gabbing to absolute distraction, and the sound isn't as good to begin with, unless you're right in the thick of it close to the stage, where there's no room to dance anyway and it's just generally not my thing to be way up in sardine-land. I do love the Riv as a venue. Maybe it's just not ideal for Wilco. Maybe I'm crazy but for most of my life I'd swear p
  6. Dream show for me last night. Being able to only hit one night of the run it was like winning the lottery. When I saw they played Sunken Treasure on Monday I was crushed. Had never seen it live before, my holy grail so to speak. I was wondering how deep they'd be digging to avoid repeats. Instead it was like they decided to put together a perfect standalone show. I'm absolutely drowning in gratitude still. Had a perfect balcony spot but I couldn't sit still. Got up to dance during Camera and people were throwing ice at me. Had to escape downstairs until the encore. I'll never understand why
  7. Honestly, I was being rhetorical; I'm sure it'll be a great show. Heck, even if they do an all acoustic set I'll probably enjoy it. Of course I don't think an all-covers set or something else gimmicky is out of the realm of possibility. Just saying, from that list, you've got potential improv/firepower in like two songs? Maybe I'm alone on this, but I couldn't care less whether they play anything from A.M. or the Mermaid Avenue sessions. Those songs are all fine and good but I don't get much out of that material live. The prospect of acoustic versions of stuff they've already played does n
  8. Oof. The what's-left list is not too enticing. I could only swing one show and gambled on tomorrow. Looking like a fail on my part. Just as long as it's not an all acoustic show I'm sure I won't be disappointed though. An all-covers show might be cool...
  9. Seriously, people would want an all acoustic show? Why? Good God, that is about the only thing that could make me walk away disappointed. I suppose you're the people who just wanna sit there through the whole show, too? Naturally I could only swing one show of the residency so I suppose since they've played almost all their songs already this is exactly what's gonna happen tomorrow night. Argh. I'll never understand this fanbase.
  10. I hope to jeebus the "play a classic album" trend is dying. DAYDREAM NATION=best Sonic Youth album, WORST Sonic Youth show ever. No room for spontenaety. #gimmick
  11. ^^This is another one where he doesn't hit that high note; same melody except for that one note. Just not the same! I realize I'm being ridiculously fussy, but for me, it's the balls-out weirdness of that dominant synth that makes the song. Honestly, I can pretty much trace my Wilco fandom solely to that as ground zero--at first I thought it was the cheesiest thing I'd ever heard and that it sounded ridiculous, but it became the only thing I retained from my first introduction to the band, and a weird yearning to hear it was what finally made me revisit them years later and fall head over h
  12. This is probably a n00bish question, but: at the Riverside a couple weeks ago, Wilco played this song and I could actually hear the old high-pitched synth part like from the record. I could've sworn the other times I've seen this tune live, they didn't do that, and I was always just a LITTLE bummed. Then I started digging into older live recordings. From what I've heard (admittedly only a handful of versions so far) they rarely if ever play it that way. Maybe they brought it back this tour? I couldn't believe that in '99 Jay was playing it an octave lower and on an organ (if I'm hearing
  13. Holy crap, the whole show in sbd streaming??? Too sweet to be true! Audacity works great for capturing streaming audio. How long do they keep that up there???
  14. This is why it might be nice if they'd mix things up more often; it's hard to keep up a nice flow to the show when you're wedging in songs you hardly ever play. *note: just throwing ideas out, not complaining; I am grateful for every chance I get to see this band.
