  1. Not yet, my GF couldn't get out of work, we'll drive down tonight, as soon as Bobby dropped out Friday night wasn't that important to me anyway.  Will VC have any presence there, might be fun to get together for the two shows and hopefully the Nels sit in with Phil.

  2. I got my two GA for night one Cap, I was trying to grab a second GA for night two but only Balcony was coming up so I guess I'll save money and stick to the one for night two.  If by some odd chance my GF completely falls in love with Wilco at Lockn' this weekend and just has to go to two shows on a work night two hours away I'll consider myself blessed and wait out Stub Hub until it's closer to the show and make the plunge for another.

  3. Same messed up bad luck including having a ticket in my cart and then getting logged out randomly to only have the ticket gone by the time I logged back in, in the end I got shut out of Night 1 Cap and could only get one GA for Night 2 Cap.  This was by far my worst Front Gate experience, I need a break now.

I think they'd be a great fit at Solid Sound. I don't think the Replacements would be a distraction or overwhelm the festival. I think there are tons of Wilco fans that are also Replacement fans. I myself found Wilco because they were opening for Westerberg in Chicago many years ago. Anyway, I wishing for it!

I agree, and like you it was The Replacements that got me on the Jeff train when Uncle Tupelo opened for them at Toad's in New Haven back in '91, and oh what a ride it's been  :guitar

  5. My favorite period is the Saucerful-Obscured Era ('68-'72). At that point they were still an underground cult-type band, pretty much. Very much the epitome of 'head' music.

Too bad they haven't done an archival release thing like the GD - the boots I have from that time frame are truly mind-blowing.

Throw in Piper and we are singing the same song!

  6. Oh - that's just silly.

Though they never did hide the fact that they want to make a hit record, so they could make lot's of money. I think they talk about it in the Pompeii movie (think it was Gilmour, too, during the recording of Dark Side).

I never have a problem with Gilmour and the rest keeping the Floyd name and carrying on, though I was just starting high school when Momentary Lapse of Reason came out (which I enjoy), so I did not have that much vested in the argument. I remember my older friends/sisters not liking the idea, though. Enjoyed Delicate Sound of Thunder upon its release, too - though I haven't listened to it very long time. Do watch Pulse from time to time, though.

That being all said, when I listen to Floyd, I listen to the records released between 69 - 77 the most.

I agree totally (it was intended to be silly), personally I prefer the Syd Floyd, but I love all eras of Floyd, I think Momentary Lapse is a great record, Delicate Sound is solid too as I saw that tour about 10 times.  To try and say one Floyd isn't real Floyd is silly, they had so many changes is sound and style, I never understood why some people still consider post-Syd real Floyd but not post-Rog, it was Syd's band for cryin' out loud.

My buddy did that tour and ended up stranded in Amsterdam for a few months. He survived by busking on the streets.

My friend got kicked off the train in Brussles (whenever I hear Masterpiece now the line is "booted in Brussles") I gave him my sleeping bag and he used it for shelter for a while, now that I think of it I don't think I ever got that sleeping bag back, it took him a few weeks to get back to the States.  Most of my stuff was stolen in Amsterdam, all my taping equipment, tapes of the shows, tickets for the rest of the shows, only things I had left were my clothes, passport, wallet and a bag of weed for Jerry, had to get a new plane ticket and Ferry ticket across to England, which they almost didn't let me into because I had no money or a place to stay!

    Oh, those were the days!

  8. Today being the 19 yr anniversary of their last show, my brother sent me a text this morning of a little trivia: Who was the last band/artist to use the GD's final stage equipment?

Pearl Jam, Soldier Field 7/11, Eddie even talks about finding joints on the stage.  I consider this how the Dead passed the torch to Pearl Jam.

  9. Nothing lasts forever.  And I could be wrong, it just seems that's one way to connect the dots to form a picture

I see it more like this, while in the middle of working on the new Wilco record the love of Jeff's life got seriously ill, he is seeing things through a different light right now and thought it would be fun to work with his son during this deeply emotional time.  I'm sure there is a little bit of a "I'm glad your mom gets to see this happen" going on.

  10. Bitching about a Wilco setlist?  Not me. I see 1-2 Wilco shows/year, how could I complain about the setlists?  But the rustiness factor does concern me.  I always feel like a band is best when you catch them about 5-10 shows into a tour.  And this will be the first Wilco shows since when, Solid Sound?  I'll be ready to see them at Lockn', I hope they'll be ready to play.

After Solid Sound they had the whole Americanarama tour and Austin City Limits with that awesome Stubbs show, I don't think they had shows since then though.

I'm more then ready for Lockin', I don't care if they play the standard Whole Love set list both nights, I just want me some Wilco!

  11. it's really surprising that belew is not out on this tour given that he's been touring crimson material with the crimson project.  they even put an album out.

I believe that Belew isn't a big fan of the larger band multiple drummer formats, so with this beast of a lineup I can see why he'd pass.

  12.

I recall him telling his friend Jeff wrote "Please Tell My Brother" while he was in the grips of heroin addiction and had just done prison time.

Oh, you don't remember when Jeff went to jail, ya he was all doped up on heroin and got in a fight in a bar and killed some dude, he went to jail and his cellmate taught him to sing and play, he got out and became a rich and famous rock star.

  13. I thought it was a great venue, real nice staff, they let me go in to buy a poster then go back out to my car so I didn't have to lug it around.  For me it was deja vu all over again, the last time I was in Baltimore I had the night off and went to Camden Yards, I was all excited because i was going to get a tour of the PA and control room yet when we get there the lights were out, the game started about 30 minutes late and they never did get all the lights back on, cool night though because I got to see Nomo pitch a no hitter!  So having the electricity out again in Baltimore was weird.  I saw Paul a bunch of times, I was going to say hi but he always looked like he was in the middle of something.  Anyway, I thought the show was great, I can't remember the last time I saw so many empty seats right up front.  The two bands sounded night and day, it sounded to me (an old sound engineer) like the room was tweaked for TWEEDY and the Minus 5 didn't make any adjustments, I might go so far as to say the room sounded like garbage during the Minus 5, then magically (like hitting a button) the room completely cleaned up and sounded much tighter for TWEEDY.  I really dig the new songs and it's great to see Spencer playing with his dad!  I did tape the show and I'm working on getting it out there, I had a yahoo applauding really loud between songs that I'm trying to tame for the listening pleasure.  My big question is what is the policy on these shows and recording, it's never been an issue before, but when's the last time they were playing over half a show worth of unreleased songs?

  14. It was a webcast and I have a copy of it. It's an outstanding show. If anyone would like a copy, shoot me a PM. I'll upload it to DropBox within a day or so & send you a link.

I had it at one time, but it was on my IPod that fried, I could certainly use a new copy.

  15. I'm almost certain the Orpheum show from 2010 that I have is an FM broadcast recording. Can't remember where I got it - maybe from someone here. I went to the "Evening With" show at the Strathmore.

I'm pretty sure that was webcast, I seem to remember listening to it at home, I thought two shows in a row were webcast, can't remember if it was Providence and Boston or Boston and New Hampshire.
