  1. When you follow the link I can't read everything in the first entry--it seems to be truncated, but maybe it's just my phone. Anyway two full Wilco concerts for sure, and then I couldn't read the rest of the entry. Please please please let there also be a Tweedy solo show!!

I couldn't agree more, Levon was great, but Jeff's set on Sunday afternoon the first year is what kind of made the whole weekend special.

  2. More thoughts now that I've had a chance to plug in and mess with all the controls.

There's a ton of tonal variety in this guitar. More than I expected, and to my ears, more than a Strat. I'm really enjoying the rhythm circuit, which makes a bassier sound than the lead circuit. That can be nice when playing unacommpanied. It'll be interesting to hear this thing in a band context.

I still haven't figured out howto install the tremolo arm. Supposedly you just press it in until it clicks, but I haven't gotten it to click yet. I never use the bar anyway, so it's no big loss, although I'd like for it to work.

Hey, where are the pics ;^)

    I just love new guitars!!!

  3. Perhaps it's because most of "The People," as in those who voted, believe REM's best work occurred prior to 1996 and their output following that yer was sub-par.

Because (IMO) that would be the case, sad but true.

  4. You know it's not that I hate Radiohead, or anything like that...but...although I know artists I love & admire, like The Flaming Lips & Jeff Tweedy solo, have covered songs of theirs...I have to say that I can find some good songs, but none that blow me away & not a single album that I'd call anything more than good...sooooooooooooo...I can say that not only do I think that they are the most overrated band in the world, I'll go a step further than that & say that I think they are the single most overrated artists in the history of modern music!! By far...

Now that's just silly, just because YOU don't like them they must be the most overrated artist in modern music? Seriously? I love Raidohead, I think they are one of the GREATEST artists in modern music, By FAR...

  5. Kind of, when the Breedlove came up on EBay I knew that odds were it would be my one shot to get one because they only made 25 so my ex tapped into her 401k for me, when the Gibby was announced I started saving for it, the Martin actually came out first so I used those funds and started saving again. Now I'm done, no more guitars for me.

  6. And I finally got the SG, I haven't played electric in a while, but man I'm loving it! I also forgot how much I love that little Fender Super Champ XD! BTW, the Martin is still a very sweet guitar, the Breedlove too actually ;^)

I'm trying to remember the last time I didn't hear a Mermaid Ave song at a Wilco show and I'm drawing blanks.

  8. Are there any other tapers going to MassMoCA? This will be the first Wilco show I'm going to with a woman I've been seeing, she's really into Wilco, I'd kind of like to spend the time with her. Anyway if there are other tapers going I was wondering if I could arrange a patch out before the show?

    thanks,

    John

  9. NPR is clumping Wilco into it's Newport Folk Festival Webcast here's the link:

    http://www.npr.org/e...k-festival-2012

Wilco is scheduled for a 7:30 start time.

Is this their way of getting Wilco to play a Festival when they say they aren't doing Festivals, "oh no Jeff, the Festival starts on the next day, those other bands are just your 'openers' don't worry about it".

  10. I'm really thinking I may need to get to this one. Technically speaking the Newport show isn't part of the Newport Folk Festival which starts the next day, however it is in the same location and on the same stage and I've actually seen ads referring to it as the opening night of the Folk Fest. Now having celebrated Woody's hundredth birthday recently and with the reissue of Mermaid Avenue wouldn't it be awesome if they came out and did a Woody Guthrie set. I know it's never gonna happen but it's one of those thoughts that gets caught in my head and I may need to act on.

  11. I'm sort of on the opposite side of the gender divide. My ex introduced me to Wilco years ago, I got more into them after I heard more and more of their music. While a few of their songs reminded me of him for a while, I've gotten over it and just enjoy their music for what it is, and the new memories I've made since (seeing them in Prague, London, and around the US). After several years and being in the middle of heavily-male audiences, I thought I'd meet another guy who I could share a Wilco interest with...

... but after seeing all these comments, it looks like most of these guys already have girlfriends and wives at home - ones that just don't share the interest. Guess I should start looking elsewhere ;)

It is kind of hard to meet someone in the middle of a Rock Concert for some obvious reasons. Try showing up real early and hang out in line, you'll meet some huge fans, mostly great people and generally have an awesome time, who know you might just meet someone too. To your point, I'll admit though I was married for 20 years I did go to a large percentage of shows without the ex, a lot of the time because she had no interest and others because we couldn't find a babysitter.

  12. As some of you know I'm an old sound engineer and my friends put on The Gathering Of The Vibes every year. A good portion of the people who organize The Vibes also do Solid Sound. Last night I was told that when they were putting The Vibes together they wanted Wilco for the Saturday night closer (tomorrow), being that The Vibes are in Bridgeport, CT this made good sense and actually would have fit their schedule. For me it would be a dream come true to finally get Wilco in there, I beg them every year. This year when all the stars were aligned perfectly for it to happen, hell even the Avetts are there on Sunday, apparently Wilco told them they weren't doing festivals this year. I don't know, didn't they just do a slew of Festivals in Europe?

  13. If memory serves, they typically don't play many songs from the previous album in their shows. My guess is always that they just played those songs a ton on the previous tour, so there's no real good reason to play a bunch of them again.

However, there isn't a standout song on that album that would be worth playing anyway.

They have played "One Wing" and "Bull Black Nova" many times since "The Whole Love" has come out.

  14. I don't know. I don't think it's a slam against Wilco at all. For me the key word is "ridiculous." I think the humor, what little of it there actually is, comes from the idea that the idea of Peace and Love would be offensive to anyone. Seriously, this guy finds Peace and Love offensive? Really? And by the same token, he finds Wilco offensive? Really?

I think the target of the joke is the guy complaining. Capitalists who think money is more important than Peace and Love.

That was my first thought too. Another clue is the guy making the comments is wearing a hoodie, in other words he's asking to be shot!

  15. This is something that's been on my mind a lot lately, because I'm going to (or have already gone to) lots of Wilco shows this spring/summer and at several of them I'm traveling with someone I only know through the band.

And in every single case--so far--it's turned out to be a really nice experience (from my perspective, anyway!!) Really, more than just OK. I've actually felt enriched from the relationships I have with people where the only way we would ever know each other is because of this shared passion.

I just think it's kind of cool. Comments welcome. (Or not. This can be a tough crowd and I've developed a thick skin, so I won't be offended if this thread drops like a turd.)

I agree!!! In the short time I've been on this board I've meet some real cool and nice people. I was welcomed like an old friend even though I'm a newbie on the board, perhaps it's because I've been around and I'm a familiar face to some, who knows why, but thanks! Really looking forward to these upcoming shows.

  16. Yay, my SG is here! Loving it so far. Exact tone I was looking for, just have to teach it to play nice with my Bruno Amp but so far so good. I'm really liking the vibrato on it, seems very simple but so far the guitar goes right back in tune. Can't wait to bust this out at an upcoming gig.

    Congrats, enjoy your "honeymoon"!!!
