Don't forget:
Uncle Tupelo - Wherever
-
Yeah....I wasn't sure if there was a way to avoid the snark, but I think one would be "shortchanging" themselves by only seeking out Tweedy material among that written and sung by his mates in each of those groups.
I totally agree, you really can't go wrong those albums. I have them on my iPod and I created two playlists, "Jeff Tweedy: Uncle Tupelo Songs" and "Jeff Tweedy: Golden Smog Songs", so depending on my mood I can have them both ways.
-
So I get home tonight and what do I have in my mailbox, that's right, tickets for Cooperstown and Vermont, thing is I just bought them on Friday, now that's the quickest I've ever gotten tickets. I bought Hartford on Wednesday, should I be concerned?
-
Personally I love the song, makes me cry, but it's kind of personal and I can relate to the singer 100%, it's almost like Jeff was in my head for that one.
-
The ones about the spring/summer shows.
Say what? Are you saying there are Spring & Summer shows? Where do I go to get tickets? What's the top secret password? Are they playing in my favorite city?
-
So I've got tickets to Hartford, Cooperstown & Burlington (I can't believe they left presale open until this morning). I have a bid in on for MassMoCA, I was gonna bid 3 dollars and 63 cents, so I could actually see Wilco for the price of a soda and a pack of smokes, but it's a good cause so I figured I throw in the 100 in twenties ;^) Hopefully they will still have tickets for Newport in 2 weeks (next payday).
-
Wow, I just called the museum box office, since I also am a member, and just for everyone's information, the price of a single ticket for members is $113. No additional fees, but still, $113. For anyone else who has a membership, apparently you have only until 5PM tomorrow (Friday) to buy at this price. After that it's the lottery system, where all bets are off in terms of price and availability.
Yeesh--I know it's a benefit and all, but still, this is going to turn out to be a very expensive little jaunt. I haven't bought my ticket yet. What to do, what to do. . . .
Bid $3.63
-
Got in for Hartford, Section D row Q, let summer vacation begin!
-
Adding two more prepositional phrases - "with fireworks after the show" might make it even cooler.
Would "Free Beer" be to much to ask?
-
I hear you, Bosco. And I agree they're being a little disingenuous in the way they're positioning this, but it is a fundraiser, so this will probably net them more money. And for what it's worth, my bet is that a bid in the range of $75 will put you in the top 500.Sure, there will be some big spenders, but I'm betting not more than a handful, leaving plenty of room for the rest of us.
I think what turns me off the most is when you go to the Mass MoCA page and look at the diagram describing the process, there is a picture representation of the top 500 bids, the one at the top of the stack is $100,000, yes, that's right 100 Grand, clearly a show I won't be bring the kids to this year ;^)

Weird, it's the only show they didn't give that info on, I just noticed that, good catch.
I wrote to Higher Ground about the presale and I got this in response:
John-
The only presale for Hartford is directly via the band (www.wilcoweb.net). The
decision was made to limit the presale to just the band since that venue is so
small.
Thanks for supporting live music.
I'm not really sure what that means, I would assume "the band" can get as many tickets as they want so I won't take it literally, but that isn't even a valid web site, so I'll assume the mean wilcoworld, but that site doesn't have any info, oh well, I tried.

Does anyone have presale info for the Hartford show?
Weird, it's the only show they didn't give that info on, I just noticed that, good catch.

What I'm pleased about is that they're apparently not going to award seats up front to the highest bidder--that will be a case of pure democratic "who's going to get in line the earliest". And it's great that it will be in the theater rather than on Joe's Field, in my opinion. I really prefer an intimate venue to a big outdoor show.
The only question for me now is do I try to do this. I'm already doing a FLA run (Tampa and St. Augustine) and Red Rocks. But boy do I hate missing out on a North Adams show, especially if I could pair it up with Hartford the next night. I've got some thinking to do. . . .
I hate that room, the acoustics are horrible. I was thinking I might bid $3.63 it would be pretty cool to get in for the price of a soda and some smokes
I was on the fence with Red Rocks, that package deal was looking mighty sweet, but I think with these shows I'll get more bang for the buck.

From the MassMoCA page:
In a break with the sometimes inconvenient -- and frequently frustrating -- tradition of awarding scarce concert tickets to the person who happens to be the first to break through a long telephone queue, tickets for the concert are being sold through a unique “Name your Own Price” auction/lottery. “It’s an experiment, which we hope proves to be more civilized, more fair, and more fun than the standard mode of ticket sales,”
Don't get me wrong, I love MassMoCA and all, but please don't insult me by calling a limited seating highest bidder method "more civilized, more fair, and more fun", it's intentionally set up to make each ticket more valuable by limiting supply, then they generate buzz by telling everyone their best chance of getting a ticket is to bid real high. Seems to me they could have just as easily sold 5000 tickets for $100 each and held it on Joe's field, maybe even set up a special VIP section for highest bidder.
How is it more fair that Joe Banker can plop down $10,000/ticket at the blink of a hat and I have a hard time coming up with $50 for the one seated show, and then I have to stagger the GA shows on the basis of which ones I think will sell out faster to spread it out over several pay checks? In full disclosure mode: Yes, I do work for a bank

27 Jul 2012 / Newport, RI / Fort Adams State Park
28 Jul 2012 / Cooperstown, NY / Brewery Ommegang
29 Jul 2012 / Essex Junction, VT / Midway Lawn at Champlain Valley Expo
31 Jul 2012 / North Adams, MA / MASS MoCA - "name-your-price" auction & lottery system - http://www.massmoca....ails.php?id=727
Oh BOY!!! Just when I was really bumed about not making Red Rocks ;^(
I think I need to go to all of them, but Hartford and MassMoCA are a must, Cooperstown could be pretty cool too. It looks to me, with the exception of Hartford, that these could all be outdoor GA shows, anyone have any idea?

My story is a little different, I brought UT/Tweedy/Wilco into the relationship. I saw and got into Tupelo 1 1/2 years before I started dating my ex. She knew of the UT break up, she saw my excitement for Son Volt & Wilco, but she resisted, sure I dragged her to Wilco and Son Volt shows and she always enjoyed them, but when I'd play them at home no-go. So I stopped bringing her to shows, I spent over 10 years going to Wilco shows solo, she came to the Garden when they opened for Neil, and she had a great time again, so I put Sky Blue Sky on for the ride home, nope still no go. Then she went to the Hartford evening with Wilco show and something clicked, she loved it, she walked out of the show wanting to hit the next two shows and actually wanted to do Solid Sound (which she mocked in the car on the way up there). I was so excited, I finally got to share what was a huge part of my life with the one I love. We did Solid Sound, and caught some Tweedy shows, I was in heaven, we had tickets for Solid Sound 2 and I even booked the same site at the same camping ground we had for the first one (now isn't that romantic, for the Portland Tweedy show I booked the same room at the same B&B we stayed at for one of our anniversaries). I felt closer to her then I ever had, then just before last years SS she discovered she's really a lesbian and she asked for a divorce, I was crushed. I was determined to keep Wilco, I brought them into the relationship, I'm leaving with them damnit. I brought my boys to SS last summer, it was good for me, but still it hurt, my old profile pic was one (taken by a VC member I believe) of my wife and I kissing on the field waiting for the Jeff + show. The Jeff Vic shows were my first Jeff solo shows I've seen since the breakup, I'll admit I was brought to tears several times, luckily they weren't caught on tape. But I made it, between the Vic shows and the Central Park Wilco shows I'm back to going solo, and that's ok, I guess.
-
Here it is. I think I got most of it figured out from watching this video from one of the recent vic shows (
). The solo section I'm not really sure about, but what I have sounds... okay I guess. Either way it's a great song.Hey thanks, I was hoping someone up front would be able to catch it, I was in the front of the balcony but could barely make it out.
-
WTF? is the wherever available?
Last night I finished editing it, I'll put it on disc and give it a listen, then I'll put it out there.
-
Sorry I thought you were taping both shows...was that the case? I saw you in line, and I meant to say hi, but I didn't get the chance. We chatted at Solid Sound last year. Next time!
I was just having fun, yes I taped both shows, as did another taper.
-
Both!
Both tapers or both shows?
-
susan's response was "the late 90's asshole!"
I forget what song that was for, I seem to recall it being Sumerteeth, I'll have to check the tape, but ya, '99 isn't what I'd call mid-90s either, although "asshole" may be a little harsh.

I'm the Beatriz who got the birthday song and the second show by far seemed livelier with a more upbeat setlist. Can't wait to do it all over again next year.
And don't you have a birthday next year too?
