Congrats to President-Elect OBAMA

Re: the Gonzalez article I don't disagree with a lot of the content here, but his central argument through the whole thing is that Obama has compromised certain decisions for the sake of political expedience and he has picked a few examples to demonstrate this. And to this I say--okay, sure. Guilty. Democrats, on the whole, haven't been as aggressive in opposing the general BS in recent years as I would have liked, either. Even when they won their majority in Congress, it felt tenuous and they entered into a toxic environment and have been overly cautious with their power. Fine. I don' -

Wait--did you just point to something published by Nader's running mate as a convincing argument that Nader is a much-needed alternative? I mean, I guess its more than McCain can say that his running mate has done for him, but still... I like Nader. Voted for him in 2000. Admittedly, I haven't remotely considered voting for him this time. You could call it settling for the lesser of two evils if you really want to, but I actually do have a decent amount of faith in Obama. Whether I will come be disappointed in time remains to be seen, but for now I'm willing to give him the benefit of t -
John McCain has disdain for Spain. He does not like them on a train, on a plane, or in the rain. Sarah wants us to abstain and doesn't believe in acid rain. Thinks Obama has the mark of Cain and probably enjoys the mary jane. The socialism claims are a bit arcane and really demonstrate the pair's brain drain. * god bless the internet and the existence of rhyming dictionaries

Sometimes I forget that Pat Buchanan is a real dude and not some imaginary bogeyman I dreamed up to personify the antithesis of my actual political beliefs. -

...but let me tell you why I care so much about it. -
There was zero line when my wife and I voted last week in Ohio. There were plenty of reports in '04 of horrid waits in Columbus proper, but we're one county north of there and the crowds aren't quite so big. Mostly I went early because I just wanted it done, and the fact that voting on election day is really inconvenient and stuff when you're trying to get out the door and take kids to school and get to work at a reasonable time and stuff. I went early to avoid the hassle. Now there's nothing for me to do that day but get comfortable in my chair and hit refresh on my browser every 15 secon

My monitor desktop currently at work currently has a really cute picture of my son. The actual desktop has like 3 empty coffee cups and a puddle of drool.

Hmm. Why not title it "The End Has Come"? Except, you know, we might go through 2 or 3 more of these before its all over. I agree. It probably seemed like a good idea at the time, but seems unnecessary. I mean, who likes infomercials? Especially considering you don't really want to be the guy seen as interfering with (potentially) the last game of the World Series. Fortunately, nobody seems to be watching this one anyway. (well, except in PA and FL. Damn, nevermind... ) I think it would be a classy move to keep it brief and say "enjoy the game" and be done with it. -
As long as my kids try to follow my "don't be an idiot" rule, I'm cool with whatever.

Me too, but I may need to take another break from obsessively hitting the refresh button on my RSS compiler of political/news blogs. I've already voted. Everyone around me has either already voted, too, or at least firmly decided which way they will, one way or another. There's really nothing left for me to do at this point but tune out and start drinking and/or popping xanax until the dust settles.

What if you steal a sign for your yard from a nearby neighborhood that wasn't counted amongst your original sample? What effect will that have on the big picture?

Nothing especially wacky in that particular purity-ball description, although the idea of daughters making pledges to their dads about their virginity while dancing with them at a fancy ball (an atmosphere usually associated with the courting of potential mates and whatnot) is a bit odd. I dunno. I guess its really only if you think too hard about it that your head starts to hurt, but really, on the surface...meh, whatever floats their boat. I have daughters. And I can say that there are few things cooler in a dad's life than when your daughters ask you to dance with them and call you th

The only good thing about a McCain presidency is that it could possibly postpone the inevitable Palin/Quayle 2012 ticket.

So....is this is script for this week's show??

Choose option C. That's usually right!

Pew also says that Obama leads by 19 points among people who have already voted. That's an interesting one--and the remainder who are voting on election day pretty evenly split. Now that's some crazy stuff right there. Polls are definitely funny things. There are ones with huge margins, ones that are "narrowing" and the majority haven't really moved all that much. We will see, I guess...

Nicely played, Peel. You're on my list. Right. But I also remember being disappointed that Gore surpsingly seemed to barely touch upon the subject during his 2000 campaign, which was one of many problems I had with it.

Heh. Its always weird to see "flashbacks" like this that include posts I don't remember writing. Nothing on the internet ever dies, does it? This is at least a step up from Googling myself and coming up with results of Amazon.com reviews I wrote when I was staggeringly drunk in college.

Elections always make me a little misty eyed. Yep.

This might be the most brilliant strategy I've seen from them yet. Seeing McCain and Palin (or their staff, at least) flinging insults at each other is making both of them seem way more likable. This is entertaining--they should have started attacking each other a month ago instead of attacking Obama, which ended up only hurting them.

The reader comments are better than the article.

Yeah, you type faster than I do, I guess.

I'll go out on a limb here, but I thought the joke was kind of funny. Hey, if we can't laugh about stuff that is largely beyond our control on a message board, the terrorists have already won. I realize it is a serious subject and a lot of us are pretty wound up and on-edge this week, but I think it is still of to make a joke every once in a while.
