A couple more supporters and we've got ourselves a movement! Also, how was this missed during the primaries? Chuck Norris has predicted the future! Or did the future predict Chuck Norris? Either way, its bad...right? Ok, carry on... -

It remains to be seen, however, how much this "works" this time around. I think the comments above about the relative lack of protest during the course of the Iraq war are telling. Iraq, to anyone not directly connected to it by being there or having loved ones there, has been sort of a nebulous threat. A dangerous situation that we have, by and large, witnessed from afar in the absence of an issue like the draft. The Bushies did a good job of integrating it into the general "terror" theme (even if proven to be not connected), which was the commanding issue of their administration. Everyt -

Well, maybe 3 or 4 good pages, to be realistic. The rest will be average, at best. -

I never dreamed it was such a narrow leap from "Damn, I'm losing." to "Kill the bastard." These are dangerous waters McCain and Palin are stirring up. Slandering your opponent with dubious claims is nothing new in politics, but this is going in a scary direction quickly--feeding into existing prejudices and amplifying it by dropping the t-word with reckless abandon as they "fire up the base". -

This just in. And I don't know what, if any thread this belongs in. And, yes, this is real. The daycare my kids go to just received an envelope of white powder and a threatening letter. Details are scarce thus far, but I spoke with one of the teachers and the substance turned out to be something benign. I don't know any details about the content of the letter, but the investigation has turned to the subject of who the hell would do this? Is this 2001 again?? This post resides in the politics thread only because I'm trying to rationalize this and figure it out who on earth would do s -

But can she smell the Obama? The consensus I'm starting to hear about her from people I know who are pretty non-partisan and have been giving her the benefit of the doubt so far, is that her ambitiousness is quickly becoming a turnoff as it becomes more obvious that she is in way over her head when talking policy. I think she is increasingly playing to the people who were already going to vote Republican, anyway, but her appeal to moderates seems to be shrinking. ...which, come to think of it, does translate nicely into a career in talk radio. Fine. I'd rather have her there than in W -

If that is the case, Obama is getting approximately 0 votes in my area. Which I know not to be true, of course, but I can count the number of yard signs I've seen within a 10 mile radius on one hand. -

That's cool. I couldn't make it down to campus yesterday, but it sounds cool. How was the turnout?

Desperation. McCain's numbers have been tanking since they started talking about the economy. He doesn't have too many issues that show public sentiment leaning his way, so he's going with what he's got left. I read something that says Obama has ads ready to go re: the Keating 5 thing. The Palin association with the Alaska-secessionist group is on the table, too, and that shoe could drop at any time. But I think they will probably hold onto that one unless they need it. Keep the focus on McCain--he looks desperate right now. -
Agreed. Wisconsin was a big "growing up" game. A tough D in a hostile environment and he handled it well. He made some typical freshman mistakes, but that's to be expected. I actually got a laugh out of that 16 yard sack in the first half. You could tell he's still used to being able to spin away and simply outrun everybody on the field--that doesn't always work at this level, but that's ok because he's learning. He grew up a lot in that 4th quarter--that was a huge moment for him. He's just going to keep getting better, I think. I can't wait to see where his progress is at by the end

Heh. Same here. NoVa has changed alot. My parents bought their house in the"wilderness" of Springfield in the '70s. I do miss the area I grew up in, I suppose, but would never dream of moving back there. Insanity. My wife and I lived in the northeast for a while until we had a couple kids and then bolted for the (relatively) cheap midwest. In my experince, the McManisions here around Columbus are largely populated by ex-pats from larger metro areas who are astonished how much house they can get for the money. Our house isn't quite that gaudy, but its true I was amazed how much we coul -
Once Terelle learns when to throw the ball away and/or how to find an open receiver while scrambling, this dude is going to be all kinds of awesome. There were some rocky moments in there tonight, but way to gut out a win there at the end.

Probably never. She survived last night. She can go back the bunker now where that nasty media can't get to her. -

The lack of follow-up questions helped her considerably. -
It doesn't feel that long ago to me that the Big Ten was the one doing the current SEC woe-is-me bit about how difficult it is to get through a season unscathed. Then again, crap, I guess I've been out of college for ten years now, so maybe it has been a while. Things go in cycles, I guess, but yeah, there's been a lot of mediocrity in this league for years and you're right, it has been showing in the bowl games.

Ah, see I checked in late and the Cheney thing popped up when I was starting to get into it. When she agreed with it I about spewed beer out my nose. But the thing about Biden's answer, even though it is the technically-correct one, is that he basically said he doesn't think the VP should do much of anything beyond providing advice for the president. Its largely true, but its one of those things doesn't sound particularly awesome, you know? Its not really a home run unless you can specifically talk about Cheney for an extended period of time, but then you're "looking backwards". -

Wait. Are we still talking about Republicans? I'm all for working hard. The God thing is optional. Hopefulness is good. Wholesomeness usually feels fabricated to me when presented in a political environment, but whatever. "Regular folks" are good. I'd probably say hi to her if she lived on my street and our kids went to school together or whatever. I have lots of neighbors I wouldn't want leading the country.
