  1. He did well when he was allowed to throw last week. It will be interesting to see how/if they loosen the reigns on him as the season goes on.
  2. I'll be honest with you, tOSU fans don't really want this, either. Frankly, I was initially kind of relieved when they lost to Illinios late last year b/c that team wasn't ready for prime time. This year was supposed to be the year in terms of talent--the roster is loaded, on paper--but team morale started low b/c of the BCS fiascos and then Beanie went down in the first game and morale sunk further. Once the "redemption" theme for this season went up in smoke in the second quarter against USC, the rest of the veterans started playing like they just don't want to get hurt and ruin their pos
  3. There has to be a morning after If we can hold on to the night....
  4. In reading the Ron Paul piece (which I don't entirely agree with, except for the fact that I think that the bailout is a horrendous idea) I found that my attention was drawn away from the article to the "Most Popular" column on the right. Headlines are strange things--increasingly they seem to have nothing to do with the actual content of the articles. These caught my eye: "McCain Delivers Populist Message" is the title of one link--although the title of the corresponding article is actually "McCain drifts away from a legacy of deregulation", which is a kind of way of pointing out that he'
  5. Hmm. In terms of family income, "$50,000 and over" allows for an astoundingly large range of difference. That's an odd cutoff point.
  6. I voted! (I still have to do it again in November, right?)
  7. Its that time of year that I start carrying around my Edgar Allen Poe anthology.
  8. This would be an awesome idea if this wasn't actually happening in my own house. Since I would like my wife and kids to continue living with me, I think live snakes are out this year.
  9. My daughter wants a Halloween party this year and I've gotten the go-ahead from my wife to do the haunted-house-in-the-garage thing. I'm a Halloweenie--October is my high holy month, so I am completely giddy at the prospect of putting something like this together. I've been browsing the Halloween stores and coming up with ideas for what to do, and I'm trying to come up with a realistic plan that won't require a massive government bailout of my debt when its all done.(but it would be sooo worth it, imo) Anyway, any tips from people who have done this stuff in the past are welcome. Or let
  10. I haven't tried this yet, since the last 2 times I have updated iTunes, it has f'd up my iPod. I would assume it was coincidence, but it was 2 different ipods. As for the genius feature, I downloaded an app a year or two ago that sounds like it does the same thing. Pick a song and it creates a playlist based on mood or whatever. It was neat to play with for about a week.
  11. Well, in terms of minor moral victories in an otherwise bleak decade, I would have preferred to see my O's stick it to the Yanks by winning the last game in that park. Other than that, yeah, it feels surreal to think that Yankee Stadium is closing.
  12. Insert post here arguing that the above mentioned band was actually much better than most of its peers. I have no opinion about the car.
  13. Well, the early recap articles are in, semi-gushing over Pryor's 4 TDs.......but I got to see this one in person and it wasn't pretty. Pryor got a couple nice plays in there and they padded the lead with a couple late TDs, but they easily could have lost this one. The D is still a mess. Looked like a high school team out there, playing in front of 100,000+ really unimpressed people. Speaking of which, I hate to say it, sitting in South Stands for this one, that was the least-engaged crowd I have evr seen in that stadium. (for a relatively close game, anyway) People were just kind of sitt
  14. I can honestly say I have not heard a single person--including McCain/Palin supporters--repeat this line with a straight face. My sis-in-law is still feeling the Palin swoon, and even she cringed when she heard this. (along with the you-can-see-Russia-from-here bit)
  15. Bumper stickers are so last election. I still se a fair amount of them (mainly Obama, actually), but not nearly as pervasive as the Bush stickers of the past. I have a friend who still has a Gore 2000 and a WTF? '04 sticker on his car. He claims he keeps them there in protest, but I think it is really just that those things are a pain in the butt to scratch off.
  16. I've felt over the last week or so that the focus was going back to Obama/McCain anyway. Palin isn't "new" anymore and I get the sense that she's kind of fading into the background. The economy this week has taken some of the sideshow crap away from this race, which if anything remotely good can be said of this week on Wall St, that's it. Its the economy, stupid. It always has been. Whoever can articulate best what they are going to do about it will win. The thing about Palin that drives the left crazy is her ties to the social conservatism of the Christian Right. She's on the ticket s
  17. Sorry about that. The crappiness is trickling down from Columbus. Actually, it started in Ann Arbor, then hit us, then you guys. If we can keep up the southern momentum, the SEC won't know what hit it!!!
  18. Re: EL Hypnotic and austrya. I guess we profited from "sketchy lending", too. A couple years ago, my wife and I picked up and moved to a different part of the country. When we found a house we loved, I was working on a contract basis rather than being a permanent employee of a company, and my wife didn't have a job yet at the new location. So we did an interest-only, no-documentation loan to get the house because nobody would give us a regular loan on the basis of my contract-based work. (even though I was making great money at the time) It got us the house we wanted when we wanted it,
  19. Yeah, me too. And I woke up puking after that one, too! Must be something with the anesthesia.
  20. I've only had one surgery, though I guess it was a pretty biggie. Correcting a heart defect I was born with. Not the heart itself, but the aorta, actually. I'm pretty sure I remember waking up during the surgery itself, which is freaky. Still don't know if I imagined that or not. I do, however, remember waking up back in the room, with them taking the breathing tube out of me and the nurse and my mom encouraging me to breathe on my own (and the nurse threatening to ram the tube back down my throat because I was breathing too shallowly) and I remember being so tired and so unable to do any
  21. This might not be too far off, if she loses. In other news, its good to see the media focusing on the real issues. Poll: More voters want to watch football with Obama
  22. That's funny. I think I started one survey during the last presidential election. My thinking was "Sure, I am interested and engaged in this election--I'd be happy to share my opinion..." After the first few questions, I asked how long this was going to take and the answer I got was "Not long...maybe 20 minutes." I've got small kids who will likely destroy the house and half the neighborhood if I sit on the phone answering questions for 20 minutes. Can't I just say who I'm voting for and be done with it??
