  1. Though I do think your friend buying a motorcycle on credit while unemployed is a bit much. I would have to hear his full story though.

i don't. that's the stupidest fucking thing i've heard all week. she's right...jnick's right...jules is right...point is, we're all accountable. you said yourself that the workers/unions have very little say in how their companys are run and that may be true, but we (as individuals) do have 100% say in how we responsibly manage our personal finances, employed or otherwise.

seriously. i'm out of work right now and buying something completely unnecessary as a bike seems nuts...absolutely nuts. additionally, there are some great points in this thread, but it is so all over the place w/ where people are looking to point blame. again, it's all of us and we all have to try and figure it out.

yeah, that was a rant...but oh well.

  2. One of the things that has really stood out to me with the new album is how much better "Get On Your Boots" sounds within the context of the album as opposed to a stand-alone single.

really? i think it sounds out of place and some of the other tunes really make it look worse than it probably is...and i liked it before i heard itin context to the album.

  3. If we took all the collective brain power wasted on labelling the situation (are we in a recession yet? yet? now? yes! depression? etc.), and instead focused it on fixing the problem, I think we'd be much closer to a solution.

A-fu**ing-men. i feel like we're in some sort of media/analyst-induced downward spiral that is making things even worse than they actually are. yes, they're really bad...but for the love of god, stop w/ the flailing about.

  4. good performance of both songs, but Magnificent is much better on record than live (so far), yet Breathe is 10x better live.

agreed. while a solid performance, magnificent has further potential outside of what i saw last night. i cranked the album version after watching the clip again this morning and it gave me some of those old U2 goosebumps.

  5. I think they're 2 for 2.

Me too. The past two nights on Dave have solidified that even if I need to dip into the twins college fund...we're seeing them live again. It'll be the fourth time (twice on the elevation tour and once on the atomic bomb tour), but first time in a massive stadium.

Two of my greatest musical regrets are not experiencing the ZOO TV and Popmart spectacles and speaking of POP...if you listen to their updated versions of the tunes from that on their last 'Best Of', i'd say the album was perfect the first time. Hardly unfinished and one of their best...especially Edge's guitar, mind-blowing in spots.

  6. we predicted that the band was consciously moving in a more experimental direction (a la Yankee Hotel Foxtrot), but the songs we heard at the Loft take Wilco in yet another new direction.

what does that even mean? imo, austin skaggs is kind of a gonad...but i'm hoping for the best.

  7. I think a lot of focus is placed on their production/style changes from album to album, but I think the biggest deficit they have is the songwriting. I mean, these were the guys who wrote One, All I Want Is You, etc. The songs just aren't there. And a lot of the lyrics just seem like a mish-mash of the old songs.

i kind of agree...it feels like they are doing what people (a large % of the record-buying public) expect of them versus what they want ala achtung/zooropa/pop. this album is a little more adventerous than the last, but still seems a little paint-by-numbers in certain areas.

that said, i still like it...definitely like it a lot more than the last.

  8. only listened to it once so far and i'm pretty much down w/ almost all of what kyle said...exception being that I really liked ATYCLB. this is definitely better than atomic bomb. outside of that, my only comment is that while tweedy can make an ATM machine work lyrically, Bono...not so much.

  9. The movie was very disappointing in terms of being a Transformers movie that I remembered as Transformers but nonetheless had good action and was ok as a movie about robots that transformed.

that was an awesome review. seriously.

  10. Its just the toys I grew up with. Was it 70's that had kung fu grip?

yes and i was just busting balls. i enjoyed the cartoon for 80's version as well and my younger borther had a bunch of the toys. i think the movie looks both awful and fun as hell...but i had fun w/ the transformers flick, so whatever.
