  1. the red sox, who have been swept by the royals, managed to beat the yankees three out of four games at Yankee stadium.

I know; it is pretty frustrating.

It has also been a while since Sox/Yankees games in September mattered so little. Coverage of the sweep on Sunday was on page 2 of the Boston Globe sports section on Monday (with the Patriots and NASCAR on page 1).

  2. I am certainly no Lips expert and it was only my second time seeing them. It was a great show. Truly entertaining; I smiled throughout.

But the review in today's Boston Globe was pretty right on. It basically said that it was fun and entertaining, but it is esentially the same show they have been playing for several years with the same props. Yes, they have some new songs and some new tricks, but it is the same smoke and confetti and funny camera-on-the-microphone and balloons, etc.

  4. On a slight tangent to the thread, what do you think of the Death Ships cd, they play in Iowa City frequently and I've been meaning to check them out...

I like it. The guy who gave it to me (their manager) described it as Wilco crossed with the Shins, which I don't really see. There is defintely an early Wilco feel, some Jayhawks perhaps. Some nice guitars ...

  5. The other night I met Jay's manager (who, for some reason, lives in Boston). He gave me a copy of Jay's forthcoming CD, as well as CD by a band from Iowa City called Death Ships. He said that Jay will be touring in the fall, with Death Ships opening and then also playing as Jay's band.

I have only listened to Jay's CD once and (as someone else said) I have trouble with his voice. There is one song he wrote with John Stirratt and I think Ken Coomer plays on a couple of tracks.

  6. Saw this listed on another message board.

Listed below is a list of gear that was stolen out of the Dinosaur Jr trailer last night (Tuesday 8.29.06) outside of their hotel in Long Island City, NY. We would appreciate spreading the word and passing this list around in hopes of recovering their gear. Feel free to send this list to any and all band, tour and production managers, guitar freaks, touring personnel, venues, musicians and or thieves that you think could help us.

If anyone has any information about this gear, please call Brian Schwartz at 303.998.0001 or Bart Dahl at 212.777.0922. Thanks

  7. This is awesome. :cheers

Did you go to the reading/concert he had in Newton? It was outstanding! First he read from the book, then he played some of the tunes. It was one of my favorite readings ever.

I did not - although I did download it from his site.

He has been playing a residency in Cambridge (Wednesday nights at the Lizard Lounge) with Crown Victoria, and tomorrow night is the last night. I have gone to a few of them and they are great. He plays some Crown Vic stuff and a bunch of covers, including several Stones songs from Exile.

  8. 33 1/3 series exchange program? I've got the Meloy book on Let it Be and would be willing to do a temporary trade deal when you're ready. I'd also love to read the Costello and Neutral Milk Hotel titles, but my library systems don't have them. Fuckers.

I just finished Bill Janovitz's (from Buffalo Tom) book on Exile on Main Street. I read it on my bus/subway commute while listening to Exile on my ipod. I thought it was great - but also important to be listening to it. He makes a lot of very specific references to moments of each song that would be confusing (or not as interesting) without actually listening to it.
