  1. i'm not sure about the comment above about them having had a moderate level of success applies here. i got the impression they might still be together if they could make a living out of it.

I think it just depends on how you define a "moderate" level of success. What I was trying to say was that they were succesful enough to keep at it for 15 years, but not successful enough to make a continued living at it.

  2. I watched it last night and loved it (but I also love Luna).

It was interesting to see behind the scenes of a band with a moderate level of success who are probably not going to get any bigger. I think a lot of bands that I like are in that same position and have made (or will make) that decision about how long to carry on as a band.

I have not watched all of the extras but I definitely recommend the movie.

BOSTON - ESPN baseball analyst Peter Gammons was stricken with a brain aneurysm Tuesday morning and underwent surgery at a local hospital.

  5. I saw the show - and the Friday night show at the Paradise Lounge.

They were both excellent. The set lists were similar - and the new songs sound great.

It was great to see them again ...

  6. My friends and I got there ridiculously early so we went in when the doors opened and ended up standing (almost) front and center. Martha Wainwright was entertaining. She said "my brother Rufus wanted to be here but he couldn't make it" which seemed both funny and gratuitous.

Neko was great. I had never seen her before and I agree with Sir Stewart's comment about her voice. You hear it on the albums and it is impressive, but to be ten feet away from her as she sang was a treat. I got chills when she sang Deep Red Bells. The rapport between the band members (particularly between Neko and Kelly Hogan) was great and we all certainly learned a lot more about the band

  7. I

    I will be king

    And you

    You will be queen

    Though nothing will

    Drive them away

    We can beat them

    Just for one day

    We can be Heroes

    Just for one day

    And you

    You can be mean

    And I

    I'll drink all the time

    'Cause we're lovers

    And that is a fact

    Yes we're lovers

    And that is that

    Though nothing

    Will keep us together

    We could steal time

    Just for one day

    We can be Heroes

    For ever and ever

    What d'you say

    I

    I wish you could swim

    Like the dolphins

    Like dolphins can swim

    Though nothing

    Will keep us together

    We can beat them

    For ever and ever

    Oh we can be Heroes

    Just for one day

    I

    I will be king

    And you

    You will be queen

    Though nothing

    Will drive them away

    We can be Heroes

    Just for one day

    We can be us

    Just for one day

    I

    I can remember

    Standing

    By the wall

    And the guns

    Shot above our heads

    And we kissed

    As though nothing could fall

    And the shame

    Was on the other side

    Oh we can beat them

    For ever and ever

    Then we can be Heroes

    Just for one day

    We can be Heroes

    We can be Heroes

    We can be Heroes

    Just for one day

    We can be Heroes

    We're nothing

    And nothing will help us

    Maybe we're lying

    Then you better not stay

    But we could be safer

    Just for one day

  8. The other thing that I read last night was a long story in the New York Times magazine (written by Barry Bearak) about last December's tsunami.

It is an account of six people who survived, and it is absolutely riveting.

I don't know if it is on-line, but it is worth tracking down.

  9. Agreed. :yes

What's she up to these days?

If it is Kay Hanley you are asking about, here is what wikipedia says about her:

Kay Hanley (born in Dorchester, Massachusetts on September 11, 1968) is an alternative rock musician. She is best known as the vocalist for the band Letters To Cleo.

Hanley was a member of Letters To Cleo from 1990 to 2000 (the length of the band's existence). She was not only the lead vocalist for the group, but also came up with the band's name (she had a pen pal named Cleo when she was younger). In 1997, she started to work on other projects than the band, starting with a role in the Boston Rock Opera's performance of Jesus Christ Superstar as Mary Magdalene.

Towards the end of Letters to Cleo's career, she began performing with her husband and fellow Letters To Cleo member Michael Eisenstein outside of the band. Around the same time, she gave birth to their daughter, Zoe.

Starting her own solo career, Hanley started doing music for the cartoon Generation O. She also provided the singing voice for Rachael Leigh Cook's character Josie in the movie Josie and the Pussycats. In 2002, she released her first solo album, Cherry Marmalade. She also performed the song "Follow Me" for the video game Sonic Heroes in 2003. In 2004 she released a follow up to Cherry Marmalade, The Babydoll EP. She is very involved with the Boston based charity "Hot Stove, Cool Music." She is currently in the Los Angeles-based band the Dilettantes. In 2004, she and her husband Michael Eisenstein had their second child, Henry Aaron, the name given in honor of baseball player Hank Aaron and their love for baseball.

In August 2005, Hanley announced on her website's message board that she would be recording a cover of Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" for the soundtrack of the Reese Witherspoon film Just Like Heaven In September 2005, she appeared on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno as part of a pretaped man-on-on-street segment, singing a song about falling in love at Starbucks.
