Anybody else thinking that Saturday night is going to be the worst crowd of the five nights?
-
Last chance for the 5 day pass is the xrt presale according the wilcoworld.

Things have changed for the better. Um, may not be the best example because I hate globalization, but a Borders opened a block away.

It is not a matter of how much time they have. If they want to play every song, they could, but does the band really want to play Old Maid, Just a Kid, Dash 7, Dreamer in my Dreams...

I like how it says "Winter Residency 2008," does this mean it is an annual thing?

Check out the After the Show section

It was really fun watching the guys yesterday. To hear Jeff say that it was his pleasure to introduce the next President of the United States was pretty cool. Jill S was a huge pleasant surprise. I have to get some of her music. Is anybody into her? Any recommendations?
I thought the guys fro 3eb were aweful and Macy Gray was a bit of a flop as well.

Does anybody have the Blisters setlist? They were very fun to watch. Are all their songs covers or are some original. One had a Spiders feel to it...

Will Wilco attend is the question. They aren't on tour this year on that date...
-
Only other solid information I have is Doors at 7 show at 7:45. Can't imagine Jeff playing more than a handful of songs...

Do you know anything about the core comedy group?
They are pretty all pretty much Second City members or alumni. A bunch have been doing it for so long that even though they've moved to LA and hit the big time (Sonic Burger/ Stranger Than Fiction) they flew in. Most of the 24 hour ers have been doing it for multiple years. I don't think you can catch them in their own show together. Like Heather said, it is a one night a year thing.

I left at two and have some additional comments. Jeff was in great spirits and is to be commended for coming to this event year after year and raising so much money. Three living room auctions went for $20,000 each. Just awesome that people support this cause and that amount keeps going up year after year. I know there are people on this list involved - way to go!
The gentleman in the back was able to play along with Jeff on what looked like an invisible kazoo during his song! Very coordinated. To give everyone the idea, Sunken Treasure cost between $200-300. California Stars went for $800 and Heather (the organizer who is friends and has seen Jeff perform Black Eye at Lounge Axe for a few bucks) paid four figures for Black Eye. Really awesome. A signed event poster went for $400, a custum made purse built from Jeff's guitar strings and strap, from last night's guitar, to be made by one of the Deel sisters went for $750 and a signed set of the wilco toy figures went for a few hundred bucks. Congrats to everyone especially Heather, the performers, and the kids who will benefit.
This was my fourth or fifth straight year and I thought the comedy was the best it has ever been. My face hurts from laughing so much.

Greg Kot wrote a review that is on the tribune's site:
McGuinn and teacher make some golden memories at Old Town celebrationIf one moment could sum up 50 years of the Old Town School of Folk Music, it occurred Saturday at the Auditorium Theatre with famous teacher and even more famous pupil in a spotlight at center stage.

Jeff was mic'd for Someone Else's Song, but at the highest notes he would lean away from the mic and you could actually hear him much clearer. I have seen him do tha before (at the end of I Am Trying to Break Your Heart when solo for example) and it is really neat.
-
Jill Sobule and 3 other acts are also playing at this event
I've heard of the Changes and think they are pretty good. Anybody know anything about the others? Canasta and the Cool Kids.

Thanks for the list. Good stuff.

It was a great show. I'll call it the best talent show I've ever seen.
Jeff was the last performer before the allstar jam at the end. He came out solo and played (in order) Someone Else's Song, Remember the Mountain Bed, Acuff-Rose and then was joined by the Wilco ensemble (Ken Drost, Andrew Frost, Elise Brooks, Tom Ryan and Aimee Tierra) for What Light and California Stars. The crowd was pretty receptive to him. I thought Someone Else's Song was his best number.
My favorites of the night were Abigail Washburn w/ Bela Fleck and Frank Hamilton and friends. How cool is it that Frank played the first show 50 years to the day for OTSOF? Roger McGuinn and Lonnie Brooks were great too.

I like those song titles and that they'll be playing the album in full on tour.
-
Any word on what there will be auctions for this year?
-
Anyone else thinking he'll play something new at the Auditorium Saturday? I wonder if we'll know how long his set is going to be prior to the show?
-
Very interesting article. I think I just learned something on vc. whoh.

Has anyone else tried the Wendy's breakfast? It is aweful! The put eggs on a room temperature bun and throw and fake kraft single on top. It is a really bad combination. Give me McDonald's breakfast any day.
I've done the Krystal thing in New Orleans I believe. I would say it is right on par with White Castle.

This is great news, but....we need a Kalamazoo Oberon!

Best Moment: Macrome and the Shake it Off "Whoo" in Indianapolis
Missed Moment: Not getting to see Either Way, Leave Me Like You Found Me, What Light or Patient With Me performed by the band.
