  1. This may be the best venue for concerts I have ever had the honor to visit. One Sunda Morning carried without background hiss, and Art of Almost tore the place to shreds without distortion. Nick Lowe was unreal. I didn't expect an accoustic set, was a little worried when I saw that's what was going down, but he blew me away. He played a tune off of his new album that if you closed your eyes you could hear Conor Oberst doing. I am not going to get into the Bright Eyes debate but what a great night. The sound in this place is awesome. I was worried loud songs would not be compatible with a layout designed for accoustic operatic sounds but I am an idiot.

  2. We watched the show in the hallway by the bar and there was a drunk girl that kept trying to start a fight with anyone who would try to get by her to get into the ballroom, like this was the first GA show she'd ever been to. It was the most obnoxious thing I've ever seen at a concert and definitely affected my enjoyment for the first 30 minutes while everyone was settling in. Of course, by the end of the show, she was the one barging in front of people and yelling at them, drunken hypocracy at it's finest. It was a fun show with a stellar setlist and I love the metro, but they definetly over sold the place which probably had a lot to do with all of the angry people in there. I'm just glad that most everyone else was cool and composed so that the situations never elevated to full blown fisticuffs. Hopefully LH is just as good musically and much better from a crowd/comfort perspective.

Sorry to hear that. Had to miss the show due to my car getting stolen. The first three were, for lack of a better word, Woodstockish in the sense the crowd was totally respectful and overwhelmingly cool. Monday an old couple was having a hard time coping with paper tickets, I stopped to help them because they looked lost and were not being helped at all ,and it was Glenn's parents. They took my address, said they would get me an autograph, and in today's mail I got a package of wristbands, photos, a Nels Cline pick, and a disk of Glenn's solo work. Tuesday at the riv I had to dig in my pocket for a dollar to cover three beers I bought and the guy behind me paid for all of them and said enjoy the show. Think it is the venue. Saw Hunter Thompson there back in the 80's and some guy had another guy by the ankles hanging him off the balcony due to a dispute regarding one of the 10 or so seats upstairs. Lincoln HAll is an awesome venue, and sort of the closest thing to ground zero, so hopefully that works better for you.

  3. Tinkering with the setlist was genius. The Maryland show on NPR starts with Art of Almost, and then leads down a path that puts people back in their seats. Art of Almost live is a true treasure. I don't care where they do it, just do it. Civic Opera Chicago Monday people who never heard of Wilco started shaking their legs when it came to the point where Nels, John, and Glen took off. The altered setlist is unreal. Start with One Sunday Morning, roll into something like Poor Places, or Hell is Chrome, and then let the tension from Art of Almost build to the point people who were pissed Wilco wasn't a modern interpretation of Paglacci but a great band that knows how to roll a crowd was a "moment", and you have a crowd that doesn't dare sit. I really like opening with One Sunday Morning. IT is a great song, deserves its stage time, and maybe it takes the uninitiated fan down a path that they are misled. Then spring this beauty on them, and they will never sit again. Saw three Chicago shows, see other post why I am home tonight, but this is a band that knows how to bring a crowd to the brink.

  4. Turned out ok. Didn't mention the subterfuge I was using to store cash. My wife has spent the last two years worried her position would be eliminated. My daughters are older, so expensive gifts are the way. Every payday(every two weeks) I had been stashing 20 dollars in the secret camry light compartment to srpris them with something nice for christmas. Pissed I missed wilco, but was sick over 500 hidden dollars would never be recovered. Whomever stole the car wrecked it a couple blocks from work, and the Chicago police tow lot was kind enough to let me go in car, grab my clothes, cd's (The Wilco deluxe, Being There, Kicking Television) were right where I put them. Then I cringed, popped the little trap door, and Christmas is back on. the dbpm security sticker doesn't do so well preventing theft, but it does lure thedumbassess who steal your car into not finding your secret Christmas stash.

Again, mad I missed the show tonight, sick that car is totalled, but insurance covers car, and the surprise gift money was intact. Wilco loves me baby.

  5. Oh my god! That is terrible! I am so sorry to hear. Good vibes from southeast TN coming your way.

Thanks. Wilco fans are the best in the world. Was sitting on train on the way home and this is the kind of post that pulls one up by the proverbial boootstraps.

  6. Sick. Seriously sick. I had a ticket tonight to Metro and am in hell. I drove down to work (we have parking on Lower Mich.) so I could stay late. I brought a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt so I didn'[t dufus out in my suit. I went out to change clothes at 5 and had a minor problem. No car. For first time in my life I was hoping for a pirate tow company but the shattered glass next to the space I parked in and the sh$t eating grin on the officer's face that was not the case. I am pissed. The dbpm sticker should be enough of a warning to step back. I am in what is like an inverted version of Alice's Restaurant. I am on a bench at 11th and State filling out forms and have to go home and explain that the gifts I was hiding in the trunk are no more. Glad it was small stuff, glad I wasn't in the car, with the kids. Anyway, sick. Let me know how it goes, and just know the dbpm sticker is not as effective as an alarm. Updates, por favor.

  7. So the people that bought tickets from that guy weren't able to get in right? A friend of mine wants to sell his tickets to a coworker, but I told him that I didn't think there was any way to do that. Did they check IDs at the door? Maybe he could give her his credit card haha.

Defintely was the credit card unless there was a party of three, one buyer, two attendees who weren't the buyer trying to get in. I was impressed. If this is all I have to do to cut out scalping it works for me. You had to figure that when the emphasized bring the card, even if expired, call if it is lost or stolen before the show.... that the card was the key. The guy in front of me used his moms card, different last name, and got in.

  8. Thank you my brother.

You know, Greg Allman used to say about the Allman Brothers Band back in the 70's, that, at that time, they were "right in the pocket" meaning that they were never better right at that time.

Please forgive the analogy here and perhaps some of you disagree, but it's just that I feel like this band is right in the perfect zone right now. The chemistry, at least from the seats, seems never better, the new record is so phenomenally good, it's hard to find a bad song in the live sets right now. The shows are so damn good, and they are playing so well. The crowds are hanging on every note. Central Park in the rain in September was one of the great concert experiences of my life.

And yet it makes me a little sad because - like a knife balanced on its point - you know it can't last forever. Someone will eventually leave, the chemistry and creativity between people eventually changes. And they are just playing in the moment right now, it's a great, great time to be a fan of this band and I just want to drink it all in while I can.

So when I see posts like this from an illiterate ass hat, it makes me wish this board had a "taser" function. Long Live Wilco!

Cheers. Waiting in line for bathroom at show tonight at Vic. Monday's show was astounding. I mean surreal good, like the reviews I was reading about stops prior to Chicago. I walked away thinking I will likely never see a show this good again, Wilco or anyone for that matter. Tuesday at the Riv was weird, the pacing seemed odd, but when they put a ribbon on at the end I realized they did something a little different, and brought it home spectacularly. Will never see a show like that again either.

To see a truly great band in their prime is a once in a lifetime experience. It was great to see, and I really want them to decide what to change and when. I find I have a lot better time when I go along for the ride and they drive.

  9. Wondering how it went getting into the Riv last night. I'm trying to plan for what time we need to get to the Vic tomorrow. Did it run smoothly? Just looking for a heads up on the no-ticket entrance. Thanks!!

Not bad. I got there a little late, still got a great spot. I did hear some people moaning though. The only problem I saw was not related to the ticketing, it was literacy related. The guy acouple groups ahead of us sold his tickets. He tries to buy, hand off, and walk. THen he mentioned his constitutional rights... This went on for only 45 seconds and he was swiftly escorted out. Drew loud cheers.

Thought they had it down to a science but we were one of the last 50 or so in. I ended up next to a guy who was one of the first ten. He got there early to get a seat upstairs. He was screaming about how they did it. He seemed like the kind of guy who gets pissed that vending machines don't have Canfield's Diet Fudge so take it with a grain of salt.

  10. Thanks. HAve a bok for the Riv, and will promise I have nothing for the Vic. " I Must be High", as it were. Serioulsy though, thanks. I would have showed up empty handed tonight and been the object of scorn Thursday." Close to Wilco time, will post a set list unless someone more motivated does so first. Great show last night, totally stoked for Riv tonight, but can't wait for Vic, Metro and Lincoln.

  11. These aren't rare. Weren't they reissued just a few years ago. Meanwhile you can find used copies of the originals that people dumped after the reissues came out.

    LouieB

Sorry you were offended. The term rare referred to "record stores" not releases. Sure BEst Buy has them, but if not, check for the "odd", plentiful, record store.

  12. Anyone who went last night can easily pronounce this thread dead. Synergy was unreal. Nels took any hacks who follow him to school. John thumped his way to the bass hall of fame. Pat showed why he runs the boards. Glenn buried sounds that most people can't hear. Mikhael brought the sound. Jeff, well, Jeff. was the ringmaster for the best show I have seen in ten years. I don't agree Wilco ever left, but if people are complaining they did, check out Owl and Bear when they post this show. Accousitics were tremendous. Sightlines were extraordinary. Band was on fire. Game over, achievement unlocked,

Seriously, the onday show, at a venue whre one may expect a letdown givn what was coming next, they tore the sh$t out of it. No, Wilco is fine. It is the doubters who fail.

  13. Hoping for a remastered release of the Engineer demos, the demos, and a tour supporting all of the above. Figured the tour coud do the album live, then go into the exclusions and rewrites, but the reality is that YHF as is stands on its own. The band did 7 tracks last night at Civic Opera. And people wanted more. My dream is a live show, similar to Brian Wilson's Pet Sounds show, but Wilco gives far more than it gets in terms of ticket price and can't see how they could do it.

  14. i got one back in the day, didnt pay a lot but i havent spun it yet....

i treat it more as a collector's item.

Go out and buy two 180 gram collectors, spin one, save one, and please don't damage the red vinyl. You have a real treasure.

  15. I remember this show advertised as a concert for the kids, bring book or toy, but the last month or so XRT is only touting Ryan Adams and I forgot who else, not Wilco. This is a bring a book or toy, yes? Don't want to have to register on some sex offender list for hanging at Sheffield's with an Etch a Sketch and Horton Hears a Hoo.

  16. I am calling around right now. Post if you get one so I can stop harrasing them if you are good. Anyone pursuing such a worthwhile endeavor is worth harrassing my friends for an extra to make sure they get in. Both venues are classic Wilco, and would be a nice change from proper seating assignments. These are home field advantage venues for Wilco and they never fail to blow the doors off.

  17. Question from a newbie : Where can I find this beautiful song? I heard on the Tweedys DVD.

I cant find an "official" record.

If you like the Tweedy solo version, after you buy the album make sure you stop in at Owl and Bear and check out Jeff's live stuff. I say buy Anthology, March 16-20, and Anodyne. March 16-20 is unreal, as would any album Peter Buck wanted to produce but decided to just step backand let it fly, and make sure you also check out Sandusky on March 16-20. Anthology is a nice broad brush. And Anodyne works well any time, anywhere. The last Jeff track on Anodyne, No Sense in Lovin, is like a welcome to Wilco bonus track. You would think you were listening to AM, and the song would be just as at home on Being There. It won't be long before you are scrounging rare record stores for Still Feel Gone and No Depression so you won't miss out on anything no matter what you decide to buy. Great stuff, and still relevant.

  18. Ahhhh...Jay Farrar in pre-"Wide Sing Tremolo" days...I finally dug some of that stuff out again the other day and it reminded me of just how little I listen to him now. ohwell.gif

And yes, get March 16-20. Outstanding contributions from both Jay and Jeff.

Jay semed old before his time but now that I am old I came across a great live version of Whiskey Bottle and Looking for a Way Out and I miss this stuff. Then I listened to Gun, both the Tupelo version and a Jeff solo live version. I still take Jeff all the way but one more live show would make for a great album.

  19. You must have skipped the 'Evening With Wilco' tour.

What do you want Jeff & Co to do, crawl out of U2's giant spaceship after Nick Lowe finished his set? Not me, I like their live show just fine.

Ahh, whatever. These guys are boring as stage full of grannies, and that's okay with me...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gosQUeHuOnQ

Cool. They have a spaceship for this tour? Rocks. Going tomorrow so can't wait. Honestly, if there was a revolving stage, a tethered flying camel, or a stonehenge set piece I would cry. It is about the music. Bore the sh$t out of me by standing in one place if that makes the interludes on Via Chicago shake even louder. I love seeing Wayne Coyne in a life size ball. It trulyexpoits the fact that the Flaming Lips can't really do live what the do in the stake their studio work and expand, or contract it at will, in a live setting. The great thing is that they work it and use the props and act as an adjunct to the music and it works. Wilco shows, however, are unique places in time that reflect the mood of the crowd, band, and the moment.

  20. For what it's worth, my listening to the Demos and Engineer's Demos FAR outweighs my listening of the studio release. It would be great to get that stuff in an official capacity.

As for more film footage, I'd buy anything and everything I could get my hands on from the making of that album (and the time period around it). I started listening to the band because of that album.

I had a lot of BEach Boys Smile outtakes, but when I got the official version Brian wanted out it was better than all of the boots I had. Hoping an official version is on its way. When an album is too cohesive and great to allow Magazine Called Sunset, Cars Can't Escape, and Venus a comprehensive reissue wading through the outtakes is a wise affair.

  21. Great, Daytrotter is a great way to move global music locally. The amount of work these guys put in is amazing, and to score a Wilco has to be a good thing. Can't wait to hear it ,and hope it turns a new audience on to a great vehicle for new music.
