  1. Going to ny to see him. Read a lot of posts earlier people were dissapointed wilco sold 88,000 units. I read somewhere Aeroplane over the sea sold 35,000. That is a desert island disc, one I wouldn't be stranded without. Music is truly intuitive, and jeff had the ability. Can't wait until NY show. Tried three others, shut out.

  2. When you think about it he did just as much to shape modern music as Brian Epstein did. Delivery was key, and Jobs found a way to brin music to the masses. Prior to the ipod soundscan, billboard, and other data shows 10 x the amount of music sold piecemeal on original packaging (cd, vinyl, etc). Dont know if what he did was good for music, but hedid achieve alot in the way of delivery of music. Ipod is now a word like kleenex, kotex, and scotch tape to describe a product. Like or dislike, he was a visionary.

  3. This post reminds me of why music means so much to me. A long time ago my dad took me to see the sandells. They were also the sandals, the house band for bruce brown and his surfer movies. The music was not my thing, but the experience set up a relationship with music that wont die. That feeling, that sound, that joy of live music that can't be captured on a pc, vinyl, or anywhere. Great live music can be relived in your head over and over. What a cool thing, taking your kids to the source, instead of letting them hear the b side that is radio, albums, or cd's. Live music opens doors that the attendee never knew existed. This is the reason my two daughters, `11 and 15, are going December 12. They may not love wilco as much as I do, but to see a great band in their chapel, workshop, whatever, is why music lives on.

  4. He opened for Wilco when they were in LA for the WTA tour. I didn't care much for his act, but the people I was with liked him.

Last Chicago show was a way out choice, IMHO, Tortoise, and they were unreal. Love NickLowe, and if I am lucky enough to see him will get there even earlier, but if not the band has a knack for intorducing bands a lot of other people know about that are great but that I am ignorant of. And really like at the end.

  5. Agreed! I can't believe some people don't like it.

Who wants to post the chords? I'd do it myself, but sadly, I'm incapable.

Forget the chords, even on vinyl I can't tell where to clap. I ride the small bus to Wilco shows.

  6. in a related story, we brought two kittens from MSPCA home today.

    they are not socialists.

    at least not yet.

Keep an eye on them. If they demand separate litter boxes but protest Purina because there aren't enough communal litter boxes available you will learn too late your cats are socialist, or even Marxist.

  7. Anyone know how the mezzanine box tickets work at the Dec 12 Civic Opera show? Have an opportunity to trade, but worried that there is no place to sit. Having a procedure done on the 9th, and got a 6 hour furlough from my doctor to see the show. Want to bring my daughters, but have to make sure if I am sick I can sit. I have been to the opera house to see aida and paglacci but don't know what the setup is for wilco. It almost looked like genral admission, and dont want to drag my girls down with me if I have to sit. Any thoughts?

  8. Thanks for the responses. Going to show on my terms, and will crawl if I have to. This is Wilco, and with home field advantage. Will buy the entire house a ber if I make it. See everyone there, and thanks for advice.

  9. Can someone send me a link to download these?? I buy all the records on vinyl and would like to not have to purchase the mp3s sooooooooooooooooo

    Thanks it is much appreciated.

Aka I want to download these for free hahaa. I am poor and I do support the band by going to shows and buying vinyl records.

Thanks and please dont hate me .

    Really?

  10. Yes, there are seats in the balcony. Depending on how close to the front you want to be you can probably get one without waiting all day.

    LouieB

Don't care if I have to sit on the stairs behind the last row under the exit sign, I am going. Thanks for the info.

  11. Standing O was the one that on first listen I groaned at, but I think it's just the Big Dumb Rock intro that threw me off. It's a very unique Wilco song. I dig it.

Agree, really thought it didn't fit at first, now I think it is a unique wilco style look at th emusic industry. And a great song.

  12. I haven't been to the Riv in 5 or 6 years. December 11 I am having surgery and worked out a deal where I can leave at 6 for wilco and be back by midnight. My surgery is at rush, so transport isn't an issue. The issue is the bone marrow they are transplanting is in the back of my knee and I may need to sit. I used to be first in line and make sure I had prime floor, but would be happy with just going. I have a general admit ticket, but I remember seeing hunter thompson there and you had the option of going upstairs and sitting. Will crawl to se wlco, but may feel better if there was a chair. Are their seats in the balcony? Do I have to get there very early to get one?

  13. I am definitely in the minority on open mind. Takes me a while to absorb a whole wilco album. First song I latched on to was Open Mind. Usually, this is the death knell for a song. I learn to love others and dislike my first love. Not in this case. Just a beautiful song. That is why I love this board. So many varied opinions it gets me to listen to other stuff closer and my own choices more critically.

  14.

Try to look at it from their point of view. They paid good money for good seats for a good view of the band. They didn't pay to stare at you're back. Also, like it or not a large portion of the Wilco crowd is older and mellower than you probably are. Combine that with the fact that a lot of Wilco songs are very slow and a lot of this tour's songs we not even available before a bunch of the shows were played and it's not surprising that lots of people are sitting.

For the most part, I'll stand for the entire show, but if the people in front of me are sitting and the people behind me are sitting, I won't stand. I get too self conscious and can't enjoy the show becuase I know I'm ruining their show.

Going to paint Jeff and Nels heads on my ass so that in Chicago those who wish to slumber get the whole experience, and whole love for that matter.

  15.

Maybe it wasn't Jeff. Maybe Tony M insisted on it. I have no clue on the inner working of it all, but it's probably safe to assume that Tony has cart hooked up to the Tweedy horse and while he's concerned about the others and the band as a whole, all of them can come and go except for Jeff. That sounds harsh but that's life in the world of business.

Just one person's very uninformed speculation.

Uninformed maybe, but exactly what I was thinking.
