Oceania was supposed to released this month on the internet but has been pushed to next year. Lots of buzz about this album being a true return to form (i.e. sounds like gish/sd)...so it's the 3rd volume of Teargarden by Kaleidoscopic, a 44 track collection they are planning on releasing over the next few years. Doubt it'll ever make it to 44 tracks...TbK so far has been pretty good. You can get the first 10 track of TbK on their website for free. I started a thread, but no one really cares for the Pumpkins anymore, so no one really talked about it, yadda yadda, but who could blame them...
Gish and Siamese Dream are being reissued in various formats in a couple of weeks. Really looking forward to these...

You are not alone. I tried hard to get into Dawes, and on paper, it sounds like it'd be right up my alley, but after seeing them live last month, I'm convinced I just don't care for them. They are really green, to my ears. Maybe in a few years they'll turn into something I'll like, but right now I'm not digging it. Waaaay too much Jackson Browne in their sound for my tastes, and I like (early) Jackson Browne.
My wife and I had the opposite reaction to Dawes....we absolutely loved seeing them last month at our local festival. Before, I wasn't too into them, but seeing them live changed that. I liked their newest record a good deal, but now my wife can't get enough of them.

My favorite 5 from this year:
REM - Collapse into Now
J Mascis - Several Shades of Why
Bon Iver - S/T
Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
Mountain Goats - All Eternals Deck
Lots of enjoyable records this year. This list could have been so much longer...

Goo goo Dolls - Superstar Carwash, A Boy Named Goo
Coldplay - X & Y
Alice in Chains - Dirt
Pedro the Lion - Control, Tour EP and Winners Never Quit
Beth Orton - Daybreaker
Teenage Fanclub - A Short cut to...

Can't get on with Weeknd at all - just doesn't work for me.
Me either. My brother hyped it big-time to me but it just wasn't "me." I'm sure he's diggin' this new one.
NP:
I really gave this one a good listen during my exercise time today and I don't think it's as good as everyone else thinks it is. I really liked his last one and kind of dig the guitar noodling. It seems the album drags towards the last half.

Damn, I love this album. Trying to convince the wife that we should see them when they hit town in a couple of weeks.

Great interview from the AVclub. Lots of in-depth talk on why it took so long... apparently, there may be some more DRM albums coming sooner rather than later too.

Just started book #1 last week. Hope to finish it soon. I like it a good bit so far.

I went with the deluxe cd + shirt option. I figure that I can find the LP for under $20 at a local shop at some point, used or new...
It's the first time I didn't go with the vinyl pre-order since AGIB.

Anyone willing to hook a brother up with this "dark Neon" track? I don't have it/can't find it. I've got the Unlikely Japan 7".

I'm actually pretty pumped about the Nirvana reissue. I would really like to know what kind of b-sides/outtakes are on it before I choose which edition I get.

Pretty much the exact same set when I saw him a few months back. J seems to have a set way of doing things and, by golly, sticking to them. Lou does a great impression of J thinking about letting him adding one more song to a dinosaur set list. Classic stuff.
-
Their last one...didn't even bother to buy it...downloaded it and made it through one, maybe two songs and then promptly deleted it. I really like more adventurous though. Her solo stuff, meh.

This news is not at all surprising is it?
-
What the hell? I know none of them like Bug... but they only played for just shy of an hour!
Not worth the $25. but i still really enjoyed myself.
Lou has said at his solo shows that J typically only has 14-15 songs in the set list nowadays with only one of those being Lou's. I saw J solo a few months back and it was short, albeit great set.

1. Somewhere around '96/'97 on a radio station we could get out of Athens GA, whenever Being There first came out. Outtamind, Outtasite. I had heard of Uncle Tupelo and already owned and loved Trace at the time.
2. May 2003, Asheville at the Orangepeel.

Wow, they're playing in town on New Year's Eve, but then again, it's a huge venue and still plenty of tickets left...
