  1. No, no I haven't. The indy record store I frequent didn't have it on RSD. I am not a huge cover of the cover song anyway.

Yeah, me either...but, for a covers record, it's not bad. I don't see them keeping this unreleased for long though...if they can make a buck, they will...

Also, I think maybe the music is today, sites like this are kind of losing steam? Who knows, maybe this new Wilco album will bring 'em back...

  2. I haven't read anybody saying anything about this one on this board, but this is a really, really, really good record. There are textures in these songs that I really haven't heard in any Foo songs heretofore.

Been listening to this record non-stop for a few weeks now. It's awesome! Have you listened to Medium Rare yet? Actually, it's a pretty decent cover album...

I guess this thread is pretty dead nowadays...I remember when this thread was the shit, like 45 pages in a month. Crazy. So instead of complaining, I will participate, here's what I'm listening to:

  3. Makes me wonder if they're going to do another Black Friday RSD-related thing again this year...

Been in contact w/ some RSD people about the Death Cab thing...lot of people unhappy and they're trying to work something out....

  4. Got back about 30 minutes ago. We have 2 stores in town, so I hit both...They had everything I wanted but the Nirvana and Sonic Youth LPs were too expensive, $18-$20, fuck that. Here's what I got:

    Death Cab - 7"

Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues 12"

Ryan Adams - Class Mythology 2x7"

Foo Fighters - Medium Rare LP

Whiskeytown - Pneumonia 2xLP on clear vinyl

  5. Who are they? Members of the Handsome Family and Psychedelic Furs?? I guess all the good band names are gone.

    LouieB

They are Dan (from Wolf Parade) and his wife. Keyboard, drum machine and guitar indie rock.

Also, a band called US Christmas is playing that they're hyping. Never heard of them...

  6. Maddox (Best Page in the Universe) on Dave Matthews

It's the whitest band ever, which is saying something considering 3 of the members are black, and Dave Matthews is literally an African American (born in South Africa). His music can be heard in Whole Foods stores, Live Earth concerts, or blasting from the speakers of open-topped Jeeps parked on curbs everywhere. The typical fan is either some dude wearing khaki cargo shorts replete with dangling rock climbing hooks, even though he doesn't hike because he can't afford to drive his gas-guzzling Jeep, or some chick with huge boobs, buck teeth, and an ankle-length floral skirt that she twirls around like an idiot because she thinks her awesome boobs give her enough social capital to make up for the buck teeth and hairy toes (they don't):
  7. Agreed. Disappointed that in a forum so heavily alternative-singer/songwriter-favored, despite the direction of his evolving band, that The Mountain Goats receive little praise. High Hawk Season is amazing.

I'm not surprised at all: it's seems John's voice pretty much makes or breaks one's enjoyment of his music. I've found that more people dislike his voice rather than like it...Like when I'm pretty sure that TMG are right up someone's alley and suggest it to them, they're turned off. They seem to be the ultimate discerning taste band...

  8. Yeah, for sure! I think last year I saw Blitzen Trapper, Built to Spill and the Sadies and for all three I paid like a combined $50! Much easier to justify than $80 or more for a single show

Exactly the choice I made about Neil last summer. He came probably the closest he will ever come to my hometown...but the tickets were outragious. So, I chose instead to see several shows for the price of one Neil ticket. I had ~6 great concerts vs. one concert experience.

Although I haven't seen Neil and would love to see him live, but the simple fact remains that I am never going too see him because the cost is too prohibative for a teacher's and a social worker's pay. Once I realized that, I was okay...still doesn't stop it from sucking.

I know Neil doesn't give two shits about it either way. He's sitting on a load of money, laughing his ass off all the way to the bank. He just doesn't care about the fans or their bitching about the ticket cost.

  9. yes sorry, social anxiety

is it the snowflake line? that seems to be the one people are getting hung up on...

he addressed that on twitter a while back.

fwiw, if you look through the first record and EP, there's some lines that are pretty damn bad on paper too tho (like i said, i never really paid his lyrics any attention even on the first record)

Nah, I think that it's the overall lameness that permeates the lyrics. Did I mention cringe-inducing? A chill rolls down my back every time I think about it. :no

  10. ...helplessness blues...i don't like any of it, the lyrics make me want to punch something.

I agree with this. I heard Helplessness Blues for the first time yesterday and I literally wanted to punch something. Terrible lyrics...cringe-inducing. Can't wait to hear this other track though. I too have high hopes for this...

  11. Yeah, it looks like there's not a whole lot on that list that's even interesting...The Foo Fighters LP, Fleet Foxes' 10" and the Ryan Adams 7" are really the only ones I'm looking forward to. The Sonic youth 12' sounds interesting too. Hopefully there will be more added to the list.

  12. Love the album but I bought the vinyl and it does'nt even come with a freakin download code ot cd. They'll be gitting an email for that shit. Then again I guess they had no way of knowing my record player in my car was broke.

I fully intended to get the vinyl at the record store, but hot damn, it was $25. No way I'm putting that down for a single LP, which I'm sure wasn't even on heavy vinyl. I would have been pissed if I pulled the trigger and got home w/o a download card.

That said, I am diggin' this record quite a bit. I think the last REM album I enjoyed was Up and only some of Reveal. Accelerate was okay but I didn't enjoy it like I am enjoying this one.
