  1. The site crashed on me at 10am. By the time I got back in, I could only pull 200 sections, so I passed and hope I can do better on the onsale. Hard to pay $85+ fees for tix, I've been wondering who the special guests might be and if that caused the high prices.

I was still finding tickets in the 100's until after 11. Just kept trying. I found 2 in section 101, row Q. Kept looking and found some slightly better, sec 102 row H. I went to the cart and deleted the first pair, checked out and showed the correct total of $186.50 and only one pair of tickets. Got my confirmation email and was charged for both pairs! Don't know how it happened although I did have 2 browser windows open. Shouldn't have mattered since only showed one pair at checkout. I set a message to the ticket vendor and waiting to hear back. I'm not hopeful for a refund as everything I've seen states all sales final. We'll see, I'm sure I'll be able to unload them if needed. If you can't get better on Friday, I may have a pair for ya!

  2. You could search either way. Right next to where it said Reserved Seating you could click on price or section links.

I didn't even see that option, too focused on just getting tickets. Are you going Sandy?

  3. I'm contemplating traveling for these shows. Any hotel advice for an out of towner? Would like to do some touristy stuff, but being able to get to the venue with ease is important. Any advice is appreciated!

The City Suites is right around the corner from the Vic. There are a couple others fairly close but I don't recall names. I've stayed downtown many times and it's usually a 15 min cab ride/drive. This time I found a condo to rent via Airbnb, it's also right around the corner from the Vic. It is cheaper than the hotel and much nicer. There may be some options left in the area.

Hotels aren't cheap this time of year. I think the City Suites was over $500 for 2 nights with tax. If you can find someplace cheaper the drive/cab ride may be worth it but all of the hotels are pricey everywhere though. I'd start with Airbnb and enter location as Vic Theater Chicago and you can see what's available. BTW, there is parking very close to the Vic if you are driving. Check ParkWhiz. Good luck!

  4. The only downside to the date is this appears to be a high demand time for hotels. I'm paying well over twice what I paid a couple weeks ago for a King Suite at the City Suites. It's something like $340 for a suite after taxes! Don't get me wrong, no complaint about the show or when it's scheduled. Hell, I'd rather be warm waiting in line and pay the extra for the hotel. I just got accustomed to getting super good hotel deals in Chicago. I'm really hoping a Thursday show is added, either way, still the best show of the year IMHO. I had written-off a Benefit show this year, it's a very nice surprise. Thanks again to the Tweedys and all they do for the school and the fans!

  5. Yup, I think I'm up for another little jaunt to my second home, Chicago. I get giddy just thinking about these charity shows!

I am fervently hoping that the rest of you get on the stick and make this thing a sellout, because in anticipation of this turning into a 2-night stand, I booked my flight to arrive on Thursday morning.

I was wondering if you'd be up for another trip! Glad you're coming!

  6. Thanks Sue! Let's hope it sells out! That would be great to have 2 shows but one will do just fine. I agree, these are my favorite shows for many reasons, always great fun! We appreciate all of your hard work putting these wonderful shows together and Jeff being a good sport taking our requests!

  7. Good grief, THEY ARE DOING A BENEFIT!  Why is this being dissected at all?  Buy a ticket if you want to go.  Honestly.

I'm so happy it's happening and will be attending.  This is the best news I've heard in ages, and it's pretty close to the best Tweedy solo event ever.

Right on! I had pretty much written off the benefit for this year. Thanks once again to Sue for making it happen. BTW, Sue stopped and talked with some of us a bit at the Tweedy shows, she looked really good!

  8. Even though Jeff made it clear the other night that playing every song wasn't what was promised. Personally, I think the plan all along has probably been to play most everything. My thought is that they didn't want to do "the same thing" as last residency, officially anyway. Plus, if they miss one or two, Jeff won't have to hear people complain. A lot of the duplicated songs this time are being played in different format like the "mini show" at 2nd encore which is very cool. The shows have been great and it's always fun to here some of the rarities. Unfortunately I won't make tonight's show as I had to come home for a day but looking forward to last show on Friday! So... everyone have fun tonight but I'm hoping it's not the best show!

  9. It's hard to say what time to get in line, depends on day, weather etc. there are some that get in line at 1:00 or before but there's generally a small group for a long time. A few more will line up between 2-4 and gets a bit steadier after 4. On work days, line starts filling in 4:30-5:30. Remember doors are at 6:30. If you want to get in front, I would get there by 4:00 and you still might not be front row.

What stinks is even with a good position, security can screw you up. I think they split men and women in 2 separate lines and if someone is slow to get checked you can watch a bunch of people go by, especially if there is someone with audio recording gear. Anyway, you might want to get there earlier than you think.

Oh yeah, good call on the toys!

  10. In my opinion, the balcony is the best place to be unless you are right down front. Then again, I don't like to stand after staying in line. During the Winter Residency shows I sat in the balcony. Even if several rows back, sit off to the left or right and you can get an aisle seat for comfort and a better view. There is a sweet spot in the aisle seats on either side of the balcony where you will be able to see without anyone blocking your view. Acoustics are very good too. I'm sure there are other places like near the sound board for acoustics. From my experience, either right up front on the floor or near front of balcony. It's fairly easy to get a good balcony seat without getting in line extremely early as the rush is mostly for the floor.

  11. I got nothing and my wife and I separately were on the site for 2 hours. I wanted either 12/12 (my birthday) or 12/11 for 2 tix. I see how so many of the rest of you got some tix and we could get nothing. On top of that, she had tix for 12/11 in her cart and it kicked them out and etix on the phone said they had no computer issues. What liars! Wilco let me down today....

Hate to hear that, maybe someone will come through for you, post on ticket board. There are usually folks that can't make it. I've had the same issue in the past with having tickets and getting kicked out. It's hard to know if it's on their end or if it could be the browser, connection etc. Don't give up, something may come along but get your request in the need tickets board. You could always pay a premium and go to Stubhub or something, I know that sucks so hopefully someone here will come through. Good luck!
