    All of which is to say, how is it possible that Wilco had never played a show in Edinburgh before tonight?

    OK, Jeff did play a solo show here not too long ago and the Autumn Defense apparently performed at a tiny venue once. Yet a bit of Internet research, as well as consultation with selected locals, confirmed that the flagship entity known as Wilco apparently never have. Having been a touring band for nearly 30 years now, and having gone through all of the various cycles — from support act to It Band, from alternative-country standard-bearers to darlings of the indie scene, from folk-festival stars to headlining American rock act — you would have figured that somewhere along the way, Jeff and his bandmates would have had a concert in this culturally rich and picturesque city. But alas, it appears that's yet another reason that some people from these parts seem to hold a particular grudge against their western rivals from Glasgow, home of the dreaded Weegies: They get all (or most) of the good gigs!

     Not Wilco but Uncle Tupelo played a couple of shows in Edinburgh at The Venue in 1993.

  2. Finding a way to extend these whole album shows must be a headache for bands without veering towards a regular concert/setlist. I've been to a couple over the last 4 years. The Teenage Fanclub Creation era shows were great (eh bbop?). Three nights, two albums a night with a short 10 minutes between each set. My only grumbles were no encores and straight off after the second set. The third night was strange, featuring just one album with the second set being made up of B-Sides from the era. Once again great but finishing with songs not originally considered good enough for the albums was strange. A wonderful 3 night run featuring all of the musicians used in the original sessions.

    Another of these was Massive Attack's Mezzanine XXI shows. I wasn't sure how it'd be done and didn't think an hour wouldn't suffice for most. Mezzanine was an album that featured lots of samples, some subtle, some less so. Their way around extending and holding on to the Mezzanine only fibre was to perform covers of songs used to sample, so we got I Found A Reason, 10:15 Saturday Night, Bela Lugosi's Dead, See A Man's Face (Horace Andy), Rockwrok and Where Have All the Flowers Gone thrown in throughout the set. Not sticking to the original running order they saved the "Hits" till last for a faux encore. Bingo a 100 mins show. Still moans from the crowd at the end and all over social media.

    I doubt I'll get to see one of these YHF shows but await the odd recording which will show up in the usual places.

    Eitzel has incredible talent and is one of the most self-sabotaging artists i've seen outside of Pentagram.

    Definitely. It’s heartbreaking at times. I’m in the don’t really need to see him again stage at the moment, have been for 10 years or so.

    There’s a wonderful paragraph in his biography which is set at their (AMC) biggest London show. They’d signed to a major, just released Mercury, he’d won Rolling Stone songwriter award. You name it. As they returned for the encore, Mark came to the mic and said something along the lines of, “I guess it’s downhill from here?” Or words to that effect.

  4. The Hammersmith Odeon used to have a bit of a mystique/legendary status about it. Probably due to the number of live albums recorded there and seeing its name week after week in the music press whilst growing up, miles away from London. Now, in the 21st century, in an ever shrinking world, a 2/3 hour trip to London to see a band is far easier now than it used to be. The constant changing of name has no doubt contributed to it losing the legendary status. There was a big stink when the first change took place from Odeon to Carling Apollo. I have lost count of the times it's changed its name since then. *I heard a rumour that after Brexit it will revert to Hammersmith Odeon.

    Safe travels Bbop, sorry to have missed you in Glasgow.

    * I haven't but you never know.

  5. Of course they're gonna mix it up. I won't say they will play no repeats for five nights, but having seen the band a handful of times, I can say with reasonable certainty that there will be some variety in the Fillmore setlists.

    A more interesting question, perhaps, is whether there will be five different posters or just one for the entire residency?

    Please define, "a handful of times."

  6. Thanks Samuel70! Have every Wilco gig I've seen in Ireland now. Sadly no taping has turned up for last year's Tweedy show in Vicar St though. Still have that gap to fill!

    There were two different sources uploaded to Dime following the Dublin show, I assume both have dropped off the tracker due to extended period of inactivity. Not sure if I downloaded either.

  7. I may as well post this as I've just finished off preparing my torrent for future upload.

    All in all excellent festival closing set from the Tweedy Band w/ Jeff & assorted friends. Roll on 2017....
